  1. Hello everyone!

Well I have fallen far off the wagon. I now only have 3 children so that is good. However the third child is very scheduled and until a couple of days ago, this made me tired. :(

My successes have been we have been doing blessing hour every week (sans one). My house doesn't look like a bomb it it at the moment.

My failures... yeah lets not go there.

    Goal for today:

    • Put up baby laundry
    • grade papers
    • lesson plan for next week
    • baby food shop
    • educate YDS

Yeah if I do that I will consider it a good day. How far I have fallen! :(

  2. I live within the drug free zone of a high school.I can occasionally hear the loud speaker at the school.  Last week I called around to see if I could get alerted if the high school ever goes on lock down. I want to know just because I often let my boys play alone in the back yard. I don't want to know why the school is on lock down, I just want to know when, and when it is lifted. That way I can put my boys inside if need be. Seems simple enough to me since I am home all the time.

Well my township doesn't do this. The school said it was a police matter, the police said it is a school matter. The township didn't even know what to do with me.

Has anyone successfully got a school to do this? I mean they have to alert the police when the school is on lock down, I would think it wouldn't be that much work to start a reverse 911 to let the rest of us that want to be alerted, to be alerted.

My father lives on the other side of the country and he said this type of thing is routine where he lives. I just don't know how to make it routine in my area.

    Thank you for the help!

  3. Sorry I have been absent the last couple of days. Thursday I was so busy that when I woke up on Friday my feet were still tired! Need to get new shoes I guess. Well yesterday wasn't much better but I did get schooling in for my boys. Tuesday is looking exhausting and we are even to Sunday yet! However after that it seems like I will get quiet for a while... I hope.

My bathrooms are not looking bad right now. My house needs some organizing because of the boys, but that will be done this weekend.

I have a question for any lurkers or whomever may see this. I recently saw this list of 11 steps to a clean car:

    1. Friday is our day to clean out our cars.

    2. Every time you fill up with gas. I like to fill up when I hit a half of tank of gas. I am always vigilant while I am pumping gas. I keep my keys in my hand and my car is locked.

    3. After the gas is pumped; I take a minute to grab any trash and throw it away.

    4. I take my time and use my purple rag and a rubba sweepa to clean my windshield and mirrors. I drive a truck and it is hard to reach the middle of my windshield.

    5. I also keep a rubba scrubba to sweep off my floor mats.

    6. Put a Post-It Note on your dashboard to remind you to throw away the trash and clean your car.

    7. With your car clean; you can run though the car wash. I did that today when I filled up. You can also do a quick wash at home with your dust mitt and a water hose.

    8. Keep a trash bag in your car. Then you don't have any excuse to not keep your trash corralled.

    9. When you get home; completely empty out your car. Everyone grabs something to take into the house.

    10. Take your time getting out of the car. I always attach my keys to my purse and gather up my things.

    11. It is OK to make a second trip to the car.

This doesn't seem practical to me because I live in one of the 2 heavenly states that it is illegal to pump my own gas (New Jersey, Oregon is the other one). So I really only get out of my car with purpose. This list also encourages purchasing 2 things. Which I try to avoid.

So what would be on your list to keep your car clean?

    Wednesday - Anti-procrastination Day!

Each and every Wednesday is Anti-Procrastination Day for FlyLady. This is a day that we take care of things we’ve been putting off. You can use this day to take care of any procrastinating you’ve done. You can do things like:

    • Make doctors appointments

    • Finish that report for work

    • Work on a project with your child

    • Clean the fish tank

You can do whatever you need to take care. This is the day to stop putting things off.

Today's Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Since tomorrow is errand day, I want you to get under your bathroom sink to see what you need on the list. Check mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, soap, and toothpaste. Do you have any empty bottles, or items you do not love? Toss them out!

Fly Kids Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): We are going to go into our rooms or the area in the house where we keep our crayons, markers, coloring books and craft supplies.

Set a timer for 15 minutes and go through this items. Toss out the items that you no longer use, love, need or want. If you have things that you no longer want but are good enough to bless someone else with put those items in a separate bag and give to a grown up. Throw away the dried up markers, small broken crayons - anything that is no longer usable that is taking up space.

Tuesday - Planning Day - This could be anything that needs to be planned. Meal planning, lesson planning, activity planning, holiday planning, or anything else.

Today's Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Today we are going to make time for the office! I want you to pick a pile and set your timer for 15 minutes to go through it. Don't pick up more than you can get through in 15 minutes

. I do not want you to overwhelm yourself. Rely on your timer for this mission.

Fly Kids Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): We are going to go into our rooms and get all of the clothes that are on the floor and put away what is clean and put the dirty clothes in the hamper or basket. Here is the rule for today:

Do Not Put Clean Clothes In The Dirty Clothes Basket!

See when I was little I used to try this trick!! This makes more work for your parents! Put away the clean clothes and only put the dirty ones in the basket.

Your room will automatically look cleaner and neater when there are no clothes laying around to clutter up the space.

  7. Can I just say, that in a market like what your describing, DON'T do FSBO.

I am not a realtor and I don't even know any other then the lady who we used to buy this house 9 years ago, but I have watched my mom go through ALL sorts of problems because she tried to do FSBO. Like you she had a hard time pricing her house. It wasn't like anything on the market. However, once you list it it goes on Zillow and a lot of people use zillow to find a house or to check out a neighborhood they are looking to buy in. So if your house doesn't sell (like it didn't for my mom) and you have to go with an agent (my mom with a helper agent, then a real one) it doesn't look great for your house. Now my mom is 13 months into this and hopes to close at the end of April if not sooner (I am hoping for sooner as her April is packed enough! Buyer wants to move closing.). I should also mention that my mom has had 2 sales fall through at the 9th hour in the last year.

All that to say that after seeing what my mom went through and seeing how you will probably be priced above what you are wanting to get, to me it would be WELL worth the price of a Realtor to do everything right the first time.

Monday - Weekly home blessing - Our mission today is to wipe down cabinets!

Weekly home blessing is spending 10 minutes doing each of these:

    • Vacuuming

    • Dusting

    • quick mop

    • polish mirrors and door handles

    • purge magazines and catalogs

    • change all sheets

    • empty trash.

Today's Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): This week we will be in zone 3, the Main Bathroom and another room. For today let's stay in the Bathroom only. The mission today is to wash the shower door or shower curtain. If your shower curtain is plastic and you can afford to replace it, put that on your list to pick up Thursday. If you can not afford just clean it the best you can with some cleaner and a rag.

Fly Kids Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Today I want you to open up the doors of your closet and check to see if you have any clothes that have fallen off of the hangers and have become jumbled up on the floor of the closet.

Set a timer or ask Mom or Dad to set a timer for 5 minutes and see how much you can hang back up. If you can't reach the rod to hang these things back up, ask Mom or Dad to give you some hangers, you then hang the clothes on the hangers, then ask for help to hang them up. If you need to set the timer again, then do so for another 5 minutes. If you find some things that no longer fit or you do not use, put those in a bag and give them to a parent to bless someone else with.

  9. Sorry I had a baby that wouldn't go to sleep last night then did it again this afternoon.

I will get the thread up tonight. I had a cup of coffee and I am thinking of another one.

I was thinking that we could post things on Sunday that we need to do in the given zone that are not always thought of. So for me since this week is bathroom, I realized I need to wipe down the inside of my medicine cabinets. It is getting funky in there!

    So what about you?

  10. What about Princeton Battlefield, Nassau Hall (site of a continental congress) and that area? It isn't really worth a whole day but I could see doing Washington Crossing Park (the museum in NJ doesn't take long to get through) then going over there. Personally I just love walking through the university. It is beautiful!

This might help you. http://www.revolutionarywarnewjersey.com/new_jersey_revolutionary_war_sites/towns/trenton_nj_revolutionary_war_sites.htm This is seriously in my back yard and I have never done it. Makes me look forward to summer when we can do it. :) I like the trail with the obelisks. :D

  12. I am over a week with and infant and had 3 days with 4 children instead of 2. My house is still clean!!!!  :hurray:  :hurray:  :hurray:  I can't believe it! If anyone thinks that Flylady doesn't work, this should be proof that it does! I even found 15 minutes yesterday to clean the kitchen cabinets and finish the zone! I did it with a baby in a carrier on me, but it got done!

Today it is more of the same. My bed has been made everyday so that is a habit! I am dressed everyday (but I was doing that before flylady), laundry is getting done everyday. Schoolwork was done everyday this week too!  :hurray:  :hurray: I have to say that was because of Flylady because I would set out to do a bit and would get it all done!

I hope everyone else is doing well!

Friday - Clean out your purse/car and date night!

We use each Friday as our De-Clutter your Purse and Car day. This only takes a few minutes and saves us lots of time later. Without the candy wrappers, old receipts, and other trash in your purse, finding your car keys becomes a breeze! Removing all the clutter and trash from your car ensures that you won’t be hit by any UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) in the event of a crash. Set aside a few minutes just for these two tasks each Friday. Here’s a list of things to toss:

    • Old gum and candy wrappers

    • Soda bottles

    • Scraps of paper/old receipts

    • Drive thru bags and cups

    • Jackets/coats/shoes

Set your timer and get to it.

Friday is also Date Night. Relationships have to be nurtured. If not, you are going to wake up one day when the children are grown and not know the person you chose to spend your life with. It is up to us to make sure we grow together! Now don’t think I am going to leave out you single people! We all have relationships! Some are marital and others are friendship. As for those friendships that you have let fall by the wayside because your home was too messy for people to come over, it is time to pick up the phone and just say hi!

Relationships are not just inanimate objects; they are made of people with feelings. When we open up our hearts and let someone else in, we become better people!  We can’t just ignore the relationship and expect it to stay the same. People need attention! You need attention! If you give it, it will come back to you! I promise.

Today's Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Today is our last day in the kitchen and I want you to spend 5 minutes and check on the cleaning supplies and things under your sink.  Are there things that you don't use?  Are there items you have run out of and need to put on your list?  Now, what is up with your dish rags and sponges? If you need new ones, put them on the list too.

Fly Kids Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Today we are going to go into our rooms and gather up things that don't belong. Things like, water bottles, cups, glasses, snack wrappers (you know all those things that you are not supposed to have in there!)

Let's set a timer for 5 minutes and get to it! Throw away what needs to be tossed and return the things to the other rooms in the house where they belong. Have you "borrowed" anything like scissors or glue that needs to be returned? Make today a put away kind of day!

    Thursday - Errand Day!

Thursday at FlyLady is Errand Day. We use this day to get out and run whatever errands we need to do for the week. Make a list of wherever you need to go and whatever you need to do during the day today and then get to it. This can include:

    • Grocery shopping

    • Doctor appointments

    • Dentist appointments

    • School shopping

    • Dropping the clothes off at the cleaner

And tons of other things. If it needs to be done outside the house, today is the day to do it. Make a list of these things and check them off as you do them.

Today's Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Your Mission for today is to declutter your plastic wraps and foil drawers, cabinets or shelves.  We all have a spot that we keep these items and there is always one empty box in there and some lone baggies that are trying to escape.  Toss the empty boxes, the rolls of plastic wraps that are too stuck together to work, and those strays that you are not sure if you should use them or not.

Fly Kids Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): We are taking a walk! Let's take a walk through our houses and find 10 things that belong in our rooms and put them away. If you have left any shoes, jackets, toys or books lying around the house now is the time to return them to their home. When you leave your things around the house it makes the house look messy. Let's grab up the things that belong in our rooms and take them there.

  15. Darla my winter PJ's are flannel. If I got flannel sheets I would unable to get out of bed!   I hope you get the okay from Amazon!

I didn't have to do everything that I thought I would and so I am actually feeling quite well about the day. Tomorrow is an all day at home day (I think) with everyone so that should be fun! :)

Time to start up the new thread!

  16. I have had it twice this year (season) and I have had the flu vaccine a month prior to me getting it the first time. It is very bad this year. I typically don't get the flu (as I get the vaccine) but this year I haven't been so lucky.

My DH reads all the medical journals and such and it is all not good. However, it isn't that surprising that we got a "bad" year as we have been "due" for years.

  17. Hello everyone!

I had a moment so I thought I would check in.

Darla - Thank you for the calendar recommendation. I might be able to use that so my boys know what is happening when. I use a travelers notebook but sometimes my children are confused so it would be nice if they had something. :) Beth answered your question better then I could. ;)

Beth - good for you for getting an extra workout in yesterday!  :hurray:

    Melissa - Every bit helps!

I don't have a task list right now. Everything is sort of up in the air. Thankfully my kitchen isn't that bad right now so I should be good for this week. However I will list my accomplishments today.

    • Made bed
    • dressed to slippers
    • bottles wash and sterolized
    • breakfast
    • lunch
    • laundry (from yesterday) folded and put away
    • laundry washed
    • laundry dried
    • educated yds
    • educated ods (working on this)
    • talked to Dad #2
    • What's for dinner
    • found baby carrier
    • packed for visit

I have a few things I would like to do today, some I think I might have to do today. So we will have to see how things go. We had snow this morning so DH worked from home (in the cold basement, poor hubby!) so at least he doesn't have a long commute!

I will come back later to talk incoherently (lack of sleep does that) and post the new thread.

Today's Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Your mission for today is to grab a trash bag and clean out your refrigerator.  You are to toss ANYTHING that will not get eaten any time soon.  This means that new salad dressing you decided to try but really don't like.  It is time to let it go.  Just as the rule applies to the rest of the house.  If you don't love or use it, lose it!  Get rid of the fruit that is a few days beyond when it was really edible, get rid of the veggies that are turning into a science project.  Check the dates on the cheeses that are potential science project.

You will be able to really make a better grocery list when your fridge is cleaned out of all the items you don't like and or don't use!

Fly Kids Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Today I want you to do something FUN! I want you to make a check list for yourself for your rooms.

This is your very own check list that you get to make for yourself. I want you to be as creative as you want to be. If you want to use markers, crayons, colored pencils or the computer - that is great. You have to have a parent's permission to use the items that you want to. If you are not allowed to use a certain marker then you can't use them. Use colored paper or a piece of lined notebook paper. It can be simple or fancy it is all your choice!

I want you to make a check list of 5 things that you need to do in your room every day. This will be the list that you look at and make sure you have done them. Even if you have chore charts or things that you and your family do together that is ok, this is for you and you only.

I am going to give you two things that need to be on your list and you pick the other three.

    1. Make or straighten bed
    2. Pick up and put away toys

The three things that you pick are things that you know you want to do or need to do every day.

Have fun with this! You get to make and use your very own check list!

    Advanced Flylady:

This week the Flylady is focused on Zone 2 - Kitchen

Tuesday - Planning Day - This could be anything that needs to be planned. Meal planning, lesson planning, activity planning, holiday planning, or anything else.

Today's Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday):I was in the kitchen the other day putting away the silverware and noticed how gross the silverware holder had become!  Also, the area around the holder was filled with little bits of nothing..elastics, paperclips, ketchup packets!  A total mess, in other words.  I had the thought that it would be great to have a mission for this as I'm sure there are plenty of flybabies just like me who don't think about it!

Fly Kids Mission (We only have missions Monday through Friday): Today is such an easy challenge that I bet all of you can do this in under ONE minute! Go to your room and empty your trash can. That is it! SOOOOO Easy!

An overflowing trash can makes your room look messy!
