  1. The Children's Literature Lover's Book of Lists by Joanna Sullivan :001_smile:
  2. My daughter struggled with this, what finally helped was asking if the back (b) or the doughnut (d) came first on the letter. I read that somewhere on these forums and it really worked for us. HTH :001_smile:
  3. Most of the local schools in my area offer night time options, I am not sure about weekend option. I don't know if this will help or not but for planning purposes nursing school (at least the program I attended and the other local schools are set up the same) took at least 16hours per week. Four hours of lecture, two hours in the skills labs, two hours of pre clinical and eight hours of clinical. This was not including any other classes or study time. It's tough but I agree with other posters that it is very worthwhile in the long run.:001_smile:
  4. We had fun with Before Five in a Row this year, I would take the story and build a theme for the week. My daughter loved the weeks we did "Going on a Bear Hunt" and "The Big Green Pocketbook" especially. HTH.
  5. Thank you all so much for your replies! It sounds like adding some preschool math and handwriting will round out what I already have planned. I am so excited for this coming year!:001_smile:
  6. DD1 will be 4 this summer. We have done B4FIAR this year and enjoyed it. I am planning to start FIAR this fall but I am wondering what to add, if anything. DD knows all her letters/sounds and it starting to read CVC words. We have been using HOP and plan to continue using that but I'm wondering if I should add something like EB math or handwriting. Any advice would be appreciated. TIA:001_smile:
  7. What a great list! I will be checking these out. I also really enjoyed Made from Scratch by Woginrich. It's sort of a biography/how to of young woman creating a more self reliant lifestyle. She discusses canning, chickens, beekeeping, etc.:001_smile:
  8. I try to remember to wear them but usually forget.:001_smile:
  9. I never get up with DH when he leaves for work (he is usually up at 5am). I get up around 7:30am because that is what time the baby gets up.:tongue_smilie: We do try to go to bed at the same time (usually 10:30-11pm). I would like to get up around 6:30am because I find my day is much more productive but I seem to just hit the snooze button.:001_huh:
  10. We've started our indoor seedlings but won't transplant until April. We have carrots, broccoli, eggplants and sunflowers right now, we'll plant tomatoes at some point.:001_smile:
  11. I have felt the same way about B4FIAR and was pretty frustrated, but recently I found the website homeschoolshare.com. It is dedicated to FIAR and unit studies and has ideas for each book. It has been very helpful for me to "beef up" what the guide suggests. HTH:001_smile:
  12. I don't think this was already mentioned but I've used pudding before with some of my patients(sugar free if needed). I've usually had good results with crushing the pills (if they can be crushed) and spoonfuls of pudding. HTH.:001_smile:
  13. This is a great thread, I love reading about ideas for Kindergarden and 1st. We are only in PreK now, but I LOVE to plan ahead!:001_smile:
  14. That is beautiful, I'm really excited that it will be available to buy!:001_smile:
  15. My husband has been looking into building me bookshelves because he keeps tripping over all my stacks of books and catalogs!
  16. I agree with RN, I am an RN and work at a hospital under their "Flex" option, this means I don't get benefits (DH carries our benefits) but I can still participate in the retirement plan and make about double my old hourly wage when I was a regular employee. I have an associates degree and the nice thing about it is after completing half of the program I was able to sit for my LPN boards and work as an LPN while finishing the RN program. Good Luck and HTH!:001_smile:
  17. I really like the FlyLady's book and her website. I've found her ideas really easy to implement and they just seem to make sense to me. HTH:001_smile:
  18. Thank you for posting this, this was a question on my mind today!:001_smile:
  19. DH does not read as much as I do, he maybe reads 4-5 per year. Sometimes all of my stacks of books drives him a little crazy.:tongue_smilie:
  20. We try to buy quality whenever possible.:001_smile:
  21. At two we did lots of story/picture books, play-doh, art, and nature walks. At three we have started Before Five In A Row and we love it! HTH
  22. Yes, I am a coronary care unit nurse and see this frequently in younger patients who often have just a family history of heart disease. HTH.
  23. I'm interested in this also. We are using BFIAR now and I've been researching ideas for next year.
