Kindergartener: difference between b and d
mama2girls replied to Garga's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
My daughter struggled with this, what finally helped was asking if the back (b) or the doughnut (d) came first on the letter. I read that somewhere on these forums and it really worked for us. HTH :001_smile: -
Most of the local schools in my area offer night time options, I am not sure about weekend option. I don't know if this will help or not but for planning purposes nursing school (at least the program I attended and the other local schools are set up the same) took at least 16hours per week. Four hours of lecture, two hours in the skills labs, two hours of pre clinical and eight hours of clinical. This was not including any other classes or study time. It's tough but I agree with other posters that it is very worthwhile in the long run.:001_smile:

Thank you all so much for your replies! It sounds like adding some preschool math and handwriting will round out what I already have planned. I am so excited for this coming year!:001_smile:

BIG, FAT, GIANT rant about...
mama2girls replied to Heather in Neverland's topic in General Education Discussion Board

DD1 will be 4 this summer. We have done B4FIAR this year and enjoyed it. I am planning to start FIAR this fall but I am wondering what to add, if anything. DD knows all her letters/sounds and it starting to read CVC words. We have been using HOP and plan to continue using that but I'm wondering if I should add something like EB math or handwriting. Any advice would be appreciated. TIA:001_smile:

Good Self Reliant/Preparedness books?
mama2girls replied to KidsHappen's topic in General Education Discussion Board
What a great list! I will be checking these out. I also really enjoyed Made from Scratch by Woginrich. It's sort of a biography/how to of young woman creating a more self reliant lifestyle. She discusses canning, chickens, beekeeping, etc.:001_smile: -
Do you wear gloves when you garden?
mama2girls replied to a topic in General Education Discussion Board
I try to remember to wear them but usually forget.:001_smile: -
I never get up with DH when he leaves for work (he is usually up at 5am). I get up around 7:30am because that is what time the baby gets up.:tongue_smilie: We do try to go to bed at the same time (usually 10:30-11pm). I would like to get up around 6:30am because I find my day is much more productive but I seem to just hit the snooze button.:001_huh:

What is happening in your gardens?
mama2girls replied to Tracy in Ky's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We've started our indoor seedlings but won't transplant until April. We have carrots, broccoli, eggplants and sunflowers right now, we'll plant tomatoes at some point.:001_smile: -
I have felt the same way about B4FIAR and was pretty frustrated, but recently I found the website homeschoolshare.com. It is dedicated to FIAR and unit studies and has ideas for each book. It has been very helpful for me to "beef up" what the guide suggests. HTH:001_smile:

How can I find bloggers who are teaching K or 1st?
mama2girls replied to Melenie's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
This is a great thread, I love reading about ideas for Kindergarden and 1st. We are only in PreK now, but I LOVE to plan ahead!:001_smile:
