  1. He goes to a Church that has a home-school coop. He is VERY friendly and close to many homeschooling families and thinks the kids are great. I think he is coming in with his own positive expierences of knowing homeschooling kids and that will be transferred over in his middle school...yay for me. That's all I know, I will have a meeting the second week of Aug. I'll let you know:D
  2. My understanding is, if we register for 1 class, or even 1 sport they can qualify us for part-time students. So yes, they get more money. I was getting ready to sign up for coop, now I don't have to.
  3. LOL....if she wasn't taking online science, I would have done that;) She is a soccer player, so soccer and ski club are also in.
  4. Oh my, that's a pain. I live in Massachusetts, and it really varies district to district. Some areas go to the very limits of the homeschooling law boundaries. Then others, like this new principal, takes the "at your schools discretion" to make life much easier. I am shocked, I will go next week and see how they have it set up.:)
  5. I asked about testing, and he said they would be required to pass their classes they are in but would not be expected to do testing to move up in grades. He felt very comfortable with parent done portfolios, because he feels testing does not test what the child does know, but what they don't know. He added, he felt the only time testing would be required is if the parents want a HS diploma, then they would be required to do the required state testing for that.
  6. A new principal is coming in this year. He believes very strongly that homeschoolers should be given EVERY opportunity that public school kids have. Including access to curriculum, clubs , classes , etc. So, he sent out a letter to homeschooling families, stating he will have home school registration day. Basically, you come in pick whatever classes, sports and activities you want your child to participate in, and they will give you a schedule and try out information. We have a state of the art HS, and A LOT of home-school parents put their kids in the HS. He is trying to make that an easier transition. He said we don't have to do any classes, and they can come in for just music lessons if we wish or nothing at all. He said whatever you like, there is not minimum or maximum, and your not obligated to register. This is too go to be true. I am already thinking, music, Spanish and art would be amazing!!!!
  7. We do it for 16 weeks, then we do Poetry and Book/Research Reports.
  8. There are a few added experiments(I think 3) and and I think 1 module is moved. I can tell you our co-op was able to teach, allowing kids to use either edition 1 or 2. They just copied a few labs for them.
  9. I have to put a plug in for MUS. The books are by topic so it would be book Epsilon. The fraction overlays used are AMAZING, I make all my kids do it regardless of what program they are in.
  10. This is what we did Cut a small slit into the marshmallow and put a lifesaver(core) in the middle. Then did the marshmallow(mantle) into melted chocolate chips, make sure it's covered. Lastly, dip into sprinkles(crust).:)
  11. I love squash... You could slice the yellow into thin strips lengthwise and use it in Lasagna, you could also pop it on the grill sprinkled with a touch of garlic salt. Another way it to cut it into circles and place on a semi- cooked pie crust. Sprinkle some chopped Basil, garlic, salt, pepper and Parmesan cheese. Lastly, chop into squares with chopped onions and diced potatoes and place in an aluminum foil bag. Add olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic and scallions.Toss while in the Ziploc bag, put it on the grill, the water in the squash will steam the potatoes.. Acorn squash, yum. Cut in half and clean out the seeds, wrap aluminum foil around the outside skin part. Using a tooth pick, and poke holes into the flesh part. Put melted butter, a pinch of salt, brown sugar and a tablespoon of honey in each cup or squash. Wrap it up with the foil, and bake:D.
  12. I have all three levels of the SWICC. The A and B are similar, although the B goes much faster and introduces a few new concepts as well as essays. A suggestion, you can either do SWICC-B over two years, or the SWICC A over one.
  13. What year is the Biblioplan that you have? Mine has SOTW and MOH scheduled out already in it.:001_huh:
  14. CQLA covers, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and writing. I just picked up a copy for my youngest. We have always used Shurley English and although it works like a charm for my older two, my youngest would rarely remember the jingles. We decided to try something with as much integration as possible.
  15. I would notify the police. I would be scared that with poor vision, he/she would have assumed it was the dog and it could have been a small child fooling around in the brush/creek. Not safe at all. Poor puppy, that stinks.
  16. This is the same as the CD one , it's just not custom published(CD covers)It matches the DVD's. HTHs
  17. I have used Harp and Laural Wreath for K-5. I do it orally, once a week and then I use a Poetry Comprehension workbook. It's 1 page a day, about 10 minutes. My kids use this until about 5th grade then I use Imitation in Poetry, which was awesome. My oldest learned so much from it, as did I.
  18. I got it through the HS coop a few months ago. It's super cool but even more so are the Virtual Field Trips. Wow, is all I can say, my youngest is using these alongside One Small Square books.
  19. Nesting, that's a good name for it! As I sit here an look at it....
  20. Ohh....a label maker, too bad Staples isn't open 24 hours..lol
  21. did I get the bright idea to completely rip apart our 17 x 17 schoolroom.:glare: Books everywhere, I can't make sense of it. Why do I feel like I will be up until the wee hours of the morning:svengo:???? What made me think I needed to build desks.....this is insane. I should know better, but while I am at the DEEP purging of books, I will have a ton on the FS board because I decided to simplify and get rid of stuff. With that said, anyone have any wonderful organizing ideas???:) help me make this worth the trouble.
  22. Hey, what fun! I am going on mine with my dd in Aug. She has no idea, and I bought a purity ring for her. I actually can't wait, we have so much fun together and I love being around her. You'll have a wonderful time I'm sure. We are also using P2P.
  23. Sounds neat, but we are doing TIP MathQuest, Writing Journey and Word Power:001_smile:
