  1. Yay!! That's such great news!
  2. We have a small group in my school that does this! We have made solar ovens and made s'mores inside. Soup - kids have been learning chopping skills and have made pots of veggie soup. Popcorn on the stove top. Sugar on snow (Vermont thing). Pancakes, grilled cheese. I think we've done a few other things, but they're not popping into my brain right now.
  3. psychologytoday.com can be a good resource too.
  4. My uncle has had both knees done. One he stayed overnight, the other he went home same day. They get you up and moving quickly and right into PT. One healed beautifully and has given him no issues. The other knee was much worse than the first and isn't as good as the first is now, but it's still much better than it was before the surgery. DH had a hip replacement recently - going to PT prior to the surgery was really helpful. They gave him exercises to strengthen the area prior to surgery.
  5. One of my dear friends passed away from colon cancer at 50. Diagnosed at 49. His only symptom was occasional constipation that got worse. I just had 2 colonoscopies 6 months apart, and it was fine. I'd rather go monthly than go through what he did with his treatment and death. He was in so much pain and went through hell during the last 9 months of his life after diagnosis.
  6. I am quoting @bolt. because I agree with all of this. I 100% understand not wanting to get a divorce, but I think everything is so fresh and new that there's no way to know how the next few weeks/months will go. I'm really scared for your daughter.
  7. Sounds like in theory yes, but in practice it's not enforced if I'm remembering the state right: https://www.criminalattorneyfortworth.com/has-a-tx-protective-order-been-issued-against-you-your-gun-is-illegal/
  8. They could ask for a safety check and a possible 72 hr psych hold. Ugh, I really hope this situation settles down. Is your DD worried that once he's out and she is able to go back to the home that he'll come back intending harm? A protective order won't protect her if he feels he has nothing to lose. 😞
  9. I've been liking Duluth Trading Co. t-shirts recently. They are a nice weight, longer, and the neck isn't too constricting (I swear I must have been strangled in a prior life because I hate it when shirts are cut too close). https://www.duluthtrading.com/women/tops/t-shirts/
  10. I'm sorry you're sick! My guess is that if DH is going to get it, he'll be showing symptoms or testing positive by tomorrow. For you - I think everyone is so different with how Covid presents. My uncle (elderly) was up and about on day 4 feeling fine and antsy. When he tested negative on day 6, he was out doing all of his normal things (masked). I never had any symptoms except for lack of smell, so I was good to go. DH was down and out and in bed for almost 5 days. I have another friend who couldn't catch a full breath for weeks after. I'll cross my fingers that you'll be back to normal by day 5 and you test negative then too!
  11. This- I'm really not observant, but if I had noticed it, I'd let security know because I'd worry someone had left their wallet in there and would need their bag back. (I'm also apparently too trusting - I think I've been in Vermont too long)
  12. I'm sitting in a Wyndham right now, and we had a $50 hold for incidentals put on our card when we checked in. The guy that checked us in said that it typically takes a week after check out for the fee to be refunded.
  13. Oh that's great news!! I'm so happy she's up and walking and hopefully this is the start of a full recovery!
  14. Look at those sweet babies!! This just made my morning - thank you for posting!! ❤️
  15. Will be praying for your mom and for you through surgery this morning, Katie!!
  16. After my colonoscopy, I was terrified I had called the GI Dr, Dr. Big Chin. Thankfully, DH let me know that I had managed to keep my inside thoughts inside my head! 😂
  17. That's so true and my DH is a therapist - you'd think he would be the first to be all over getting help. Instead he really struggled with the idea that DS wasn't just being "difficult." 🙄
  18. Prayers for your mom - I hope this set back is a quick one and she's back recovering quickly!
  19. One other thing that was reassuring for me, is that Prozac has been on the market since the 80s. It's very well-researched and people have been on it for a long time, which made me feel better. I'm less hesitant to try out a new medicine on myself than I am to let DS try it.
  20. @cbollin thank you for the description! I get too disturbed by videos and do a lot better with written descriptions of things. One of my friends just had a scary experience where she kept being sent home from the hospital when she went to the ER complaining of severe stomach pain. Eventually, she ended up admitted with a pretty bad diverticulitis attack that needed IV antibiotics, and she's not out of the woods as far as needing surgery. But she was blown off multiple times, even after she shared that she was in severe pain anytime she ate and had lost 10 lbs in less than a month. One of the nurses just told her she needed to lose the weight anyway, so it was a good thing. While she was hospitalized, she said they were only able to check her vitals every 8 hrs or so and she said everyone was lovely, but they seemed incredibly understaffed. Most primary care offices aren't taking new patients around here, and even if you are a current patient, wait times are really long right now to be seen. It's a little scary.
  21. Similar to your daughter, he started at 5 mg and moved up to 20 mg. He's been there since - except the time we tried to lower it. No side effects- the only one we noticed was that his chattiness decreased a bit after starting. He would TALK and talk and talk. And then talk a little more. He's still chatty, but less over the top, if that makes sense. I'm betting it was one of his anxiety symptoms, just less noticeable than the panic attacks, anticipatory anxiety, etc. Don't apologize - this forum is great for questions and I never mind answering!
  22. The lease is up in early May I think? The Crosstrek is in excellent condition and has been very gently used. I will say though - we're in VT (as my screen name indicates) and Vermont cars are notorious for undercarriage rust. At 3 years old, it's probably not an issue yet (I haven't looked under there!) but Vermonters will often go to drier/less snowy states to buy used cars to avoid rust. If you are interested though - DM me. Would love it to go to a good home! Don't be sorry - you've given me things to think about and I appreciate it. We have similar set ups - Uber may exist here, but it's not like it is in even small cities. Another thing your post got me thinking about is DS will be 15 in a couple of months and (I can't believe he's old enough for this) old enough for a driver's permit. So that's another consideration we'll need to take into account. I think we could make it work through the spring/summer/fall and potentially revisit next winter. At the very least we'll have saved 6-7 months of car payments at that point, which is pretty cool. I'm going to show the Carvana stuff to DH and let him know about this thread too! I agree about DR. We were in debt at the time and were working to pay down a loan and credit cards. And my brain knows that a 5-10-year-old car would be reliable and not need too much work, typically. I think I may have some car PTSD because my insides turn when I think about having a 10-year-old car again. We did have some crappy luck with the cars we were buying. They would get a clean bill of health, and then they would just fall apart. I had a tie rod blow on the highway, and I barely was able to pull over safely. We had to replace 2 CV joints on another car, and the tech wouldn't let us drive it because he said it was too dangerous. There are probably another half dozen or so situations that I don't even want to try to remember! I'll work on it - maybe one newer and one used-er could work!
  23. My husband had similar concerns about our son being on prozac longer term. He was especially concerned about his being on it during/after puberty and the effects it may have had. Our Dr agreed that during puberty, the brain is making new connections, pruning, and going through a very heightened period of activity, but he made the very important point of - what would the effects of his brain rewiring/pruning in a state of heightened anxiety? That was enough to convince DH to keep him on the meds as long as needed. He started them at 9, and at 12, he wanted to try taking a lower dose to see if he could wean off of them. It was not successful, and his anxiety ramped up. I believe he wants to try again this summer when he'll be 15. The nice thing is, you can always lower the dose for a bit as a test to see if you feel good at the lower dose and ramp back up if needed. We also wish we had started DS sooner than we did. They can be life changing.
  24. Snow tires are a must around here!! They were new last year I think and are lightly used.
  25. Oh you're a genius! That's $9,000 more than we owe on it. Is Carvana legit?
