  1. Does this group usually take awhile to respond to a request to join the group?
  2. Are you talking about history or language arts? If history - why is it the way you would design it? I'm having a hard time discerning from the samples if there are living books incorporated or just her overviews along with the other authors of the curriculum. I see books for reading challenges in the language arts but can't find that for history unless it's right in front of me and I'm missing it. Thanks!
  3. Lori - thank you so much for your response. That helps a lot. I have heard of all of those programs, but it was great to hear your thoughts on them and how you have made things work for your own family. I'm going to a convention in three weeks, so I'm trying to get an idea as much as I can about what I'm going to use, so I don't get there and buy everything! 😬
  4. I'd love to hear feedback on the history program, though I know it's newer.....
  5. Lori - do you mind me asking what you like for history?
  6. Thanks everyone. This is all very helpful. It sounds like both of them could actually work, but I may give BIblioplan a harder look… i'm not set on keeping them together all the way through. I mainly just want to for the next two years, and we are going to cover early modern and modern.
  7. Good morning!! I have another thread going about VP and down thread asked about the differences in BP and VP but I decided to add a new thread specifically about this. I am trying to decide between these two I think. I will have 7th, 4th and 2nd graders. Can you tell me what you think about these and how they are different?
  8. Thanks for the responses. While on this topic, how would you compare VP and BP? (If you are familiar with BP)
  9. I have used Process skills in problem solving some and also math mammoth. I don't supplement everyday, but I try to incorporate one of those 2-3 times a week. I don't know if all CLE users would think it's necessary, but when I started adding it in, my daughter looked utterly confused by the problems at first, so I realized it would a good move to have her so some "different" math.
  10. Hi everyone I'm trying to combine my girls next year for history for the first time in awhile. I will have a 7th, 4th and 2nd grader. I was thinking Biblioplan, but after talking to a friend today, I'm considering VP. I'm not sure if I will use the self-paced online or not. I may just use the cards and the suggested books and maybe the lesson plans. What I'm wondering is if this would be enough for a seventh grader. Would I need to beef it up and if so, how would you go about that? Just add more books? My oldest will be taking literature and composition at a local tutorial, so i'm not worried about those components. It's only the history I'm concerned with. Thanks!
  11. Hey everyone, I am trying to decide on science for my rising 4th grade daughter. I was planning to combine her with her younger sister using perhaps guest hollow or the easy classical science guide. However, she is using BJU distance learning dvds this year and just requested to do it again. But......long story.......she is using 4th this year and I know they really pick up in difficulty quickly and I don't know that she'll be ready for 5th grade next year. Is there anything similar? She likes the dvds and the worksheets, tests, etc...... Thanks!
  12. Bumping this and quoting myself to see if anyone has any thoughts about this....
  13. This may totally mess up the plans for her history guides, but would it be possible to do certain units from each year instead of the complete year as written or are things building somehow to where starting at say, unit 3, would be problematic? Thanks!
  14. I'll take a look at the Good and the Beautiful, though I'd really prefer early modern history specifically. My oldest is using HOD now and it includes MOH, but we have another week before that text is introduced. I'll take note on whether I think that would be a good spine to drive us next year. Thanks!
  15. Hi ladies, I have been going back and forth about history next year and just can't seem to find what I am looking for. I would like to combine my kids (grades 7,4,2 - though I'm not much concerned about history for my 2nd grader). We will be doing early modern. I had pretty much decided on Simply Charlotte Mason, but I really would like more requirements than just narrations. I would love discussion questions and suggestions for research or essays. I want as simple as possible - so not so much history that there isn't time for much else. We are Christians, so that is preferable but not necessary. I would love something that has a spine that keeps us together but lots of good living books for each age too. Any suggestions? I've looked at BP and had a hard time getting excited. Same with notgrass. I've considered TOG but I think it might be too complicated. What am i missing? I really think SCM looks great with extra books if needed, but I just want more meat added. I'm sure i could come up with discussions points and essay topics on my own, but I would love to have that work done for me for times when I just simply don't have the energy 😊 Thanks for any thoughts!!
  16. Thanks for the thoughts. So with MM, would you just find something else for 4th grade then move to it in 5th? Also - how is Math in Focus different from the Primary Mathematics by Singapore?
  17. Hi ladies, Ok - so we are the family that now has the deer in the headlights look when we do our one page a day of FAN Process skills in problem solving math supplement. I am included in that. :) We have used very traditional math curricula (mostly CLE and R&S). I love them. And I may continue using them along with the Process skills books. But, I am considering making a switch for my younger 2 kiddos. I am looking into Math mammoth, Right Start and Math-U-See. Can you give me some thoughts on what the main differences are with these and which might be best, considering that I don't think conceptually either. I will need hand holding. The two I'm thinking of switching for will be in 4th and 2nd for math. Thanks for any thoughts you have!
  18. My daughter will likely take a Writing and Rhetoric class with Classical Academic Press (Schole Academy) next year - books 3&4. Edited to add that she will be almost 10 when she starts.
  19. This is definitely one of our options!
  20. Do you mean R&S 7th and 8th books? I'm not sure my daughter "needs" DO, but I do 😂!!! I'm ready for someone else to do the teaching. I understand math and can do it, but it's not my strong suit when teaching!!
  21. Hi ladies. My daughter is in sixth grade and we are finishing up rod and staff 6 pretty soon. Her background has been horizons math, a short time with CLE and now rod and staff for the past two years. I feel like she is fairly solid with math. We plan to do Derek Owens pre-algebra next year. But I really want to get some extra review in there before we start DO. Was thinking of one of these two programs for that practice. Any thoughts on which might be best to wedge in between what we are using now and the actual prealgebra year? We'll have about 5 months. Not worried about cost. We will use again later. Thanks!
