  1. I did ask for an exemption. As for a deferral, my husband has a huge project that is taking him out of town constantly. I have no idea when I would be available. It would be so much easier if I was in the same town as my mom/sister. ?
  2. I've heard of moms being held in contempt for that. ? Oh, I know I have to go if no deferral is given. I'm just hoping they'll be kind and give me one.
  3. Uggg. I'm pro-jury duty and I would do it in a heartbeat, if I had someone I could actually get to watch my child and take her to therapies. With DH out of town the following week, this makes me really nervous.
  4. I was chosen for jury duty and applied for an exemption. We obviously homeschool, but we also have therapy 2xs a week, an hour away. Additionally, we have no family in the area who can keep my daughter and my friends work. The exemption was not granted. I was summoned to appear next Wednesday, but assuming the actual trial is on a different day, I am really out of luck as my husband will be out of town. Can I call and explain my situation? If my daughter was older, I would have no problem serving, but at this time, we literally have nothing available to us.
  5. My husband has them and we call them his "fly fishing shirts".
  6. Hey all - just popping in to give an update on dad. ? This is from mom tonight: Psalm 105:5 “Remember his marvelous works he hath done...”Remember: used to emphasize the importance ofMarvelous: causing great wonderChuck and I had an opportunity to marvel at the works of our Lord today. Chuck met Dr. Evans, his surgeon who performed his surgery in February, today. Dr. Evans walked in the room and was speechless for a moment as he saw Chuck. With tears in his eyes, he shook Chuck’s hand and said, “Man, this is a special sight and a miracle.” As Dr. Evans began to speak with Chuck, he just sat and shook his head and stated once again, “You are a miracle!” He then took the time to show us Chuck’s CAT scan taken on the day of his emergency surgery. The CAT scan looked beyond hopeless of survival!!! Dr. Evans told Chuck, “Your bags were packed and you were leaving this world- or so I thought. Even making it through the surgery left me with very little hope of survival.” He and his nurse were astounded at his ability to follow and his involvement with the conversation, the depth and level of his questions, and his sense of humor. They were doubly impressed to learn he did not stay at Timber Ridge and had progressed this well. Chuck told him, “You would believe it if you stayed around Mrs. Drill Sergeant very long. She works me to the bone every day!” (While pointing at me) His next surgery will be in about a month to replace the flap. We are needing to consult with a plastic surgeon for a portion of his incision which has not completely healed yet. As we left the clinic we lifted our voices in praise - ?How marvelous, how wonderful, is my Saviour’s love for me.?
  7. Assuming you are referring to history, Jenny Philips recommends not starting TGTB until 3rd. ? So, that might be something to take into consideration. Also, have you visited any of the TG&TB groups on FB? They have a lot of discussion concerning BF and TGTB in the earlier years. I've heard amazing things about BF Around the World and they're coming out with a second semester of Around the World as well. For me, we are planning on doing BF Early American History, then Around the World, the moving into TGTB.
  8. While the Language Arts and Lit combines a several subjects in it's study, TG&TB history is a 4 year history course. They also have US Constitution/Government and an Economics course. (I am, of course, assuming she is referencing history, since she is deciding between Beautiful Feet and TGTB.)
  9. I might try this. Weird this is that this isn't eczema. No one - drs, dermatologists, allergist - knows what it is. ?
  10. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking it probably is. I'm thinking he's eating something or in contact with something that is making him break out, but no one can figure out what. ? I think I"m going to get the Manuka for our mosquito bites, though. We almost always end up with one or two looking like it's going to turn into cellulitis. ?
  11. My husband has a rash or reaction or something on his legs and arms. He's had it for at least 7 years and no dermatologist can figure it out. I want to try this for his legs and arms, but I'm assuming this is sticky like honey so all over would be a bit of a bother. Is there a cream or lotion made from Manuka Honey that anyone has used?
  12. WOW - I haven't seen the movie, but I googled and there are some forums with moms who have seen it and the said the same thing. One of them had a daughter who turned to her mom and said "They shouldn't be touching him there." So, it's obviously not subtle. Whew - not sure if a group of moms got together to rate it, but they're going to town on Facebook. Macaroni Kid pulled their support from the movie yesterday.
  13. Nope. I thought I'd be a whole lot better at it and that we'd have a happy little picturesque home. HAHA Not even close. We're a hot mess, honestly. But, I'm sure the next 6 years will see changes and growth...and hopefully, we'll slow down on some of the 'hot mess' aspects.
  14. Oh, I know...but if it was any other type of wedding, I'd have eloped by now.
  15. Wow! I always love reading her stories...though I missed how she went from 9 to 13! ? I loved reading this. She has a lot of wisdom in regards to her education. Thanks for sharing!
  16. She gets her dose around 8am, right after breakfast. Depending on the day, she won't be hungry until dinner time, even if she doesn't have the meds. ?‍♀️ I usually wait until she's eaten, but half the time, she won't eat anyway, or will only eat a few bites.
  17. I think, if I remember correctly, some of it has to do with her age and size? ?‍♀️
  18. And yes - her OT is working on retained reflexes (ATNR and maybe spinal galant? That one is "new" - as in, the new OT noticed it, but he had to really look for it because it's not that bad)
  19. Oh, the ped IS definitely harping on the food. We had to have an actual appointment yesterday due to the weightloss. Still, she's so active that even if she eats a huge breakfast and a huge dinner, she's still barely gaining. And yes, this is the dr wasn't too keen on the meds anyway. So, she's definitely pro us getting off the meds. As for NAET for ADHD - It goes back to the brain/body function, the allergens and chemical sensitivies, etc. We've only been to 2 treatments so far, so understandably, we haven't seen any results yet. (I'm currently reading a book called Healing without Hurting and she also suggests NAET, which was nice to read since I had already decided to go that route.)
  20. She's always had some kind of anxiety. The meds just seem to heighten it. ?
  21. We started with mini-M&Ms and no go. lol That was about 4 months ago, though. So, we'll try again soon. We have a special cup that is supposed to help you swallow pills, but it doesn't help her. lol She gags every time. ?‍♀️
  22. For starters - heightened anxiety, increased heart rate, stomach pains when eating...if she eats, etc. She's down to 47lbs and barely eats unless we skip doses. (We lowered the dose due to continued weightloss, so she's starting to eat a bit more.) She HATES how they make her feel. She has asked me "Mom, why to parents give their kids medicine to make them not feel the same? Does everyone have to 'not feel the same' or is it just because I am bad?" ☹️ She has asked multiple times to not have to take the medicine because "It makes me feel like I am not me and I'm just a boring person." And, while a 6 year old is not mature enough to make all the decisions, she voices her desire to "not feel like I'm not me" so frequently that I would be irresponsible to completely ignore her desires. Yes, some of it is probably the medicine type, but she can't swallow pills, so that greatly limits what we can take right now.
  23. You all are right - as always. ? Like I said, I needed some tough love. I definitely don't want to hold her back in an area if she's able to move forward.
