  1. When my dh asked what the box was from, I just said it was school stuff. ;)
  2. I also have the game Hail to the Chief. There are tons of resources here: http://robynnordell.com/hs_t_add.aspx
  3. Amblesideonline.com does lots of British history in the earlier years. I'd check their booklist.
  4. Thanks so much! I thought I'd seen it somewhere--or that SOMEONE must have done the work. lol I ordered SL 1&2, and SOTW1. Now I can have the best of both worlds. :)
  5. Has someone already coordinated these two books for lessons? I'd like to use both of them (maybe) this year. Can't seem to find anything I've saved like that... Thanks!
  6. Oh, btw, if you're subbing honey for sugar you need less honey. Honey can be awful sweet. You might want to use sucanat (looks like a dry brown sugar) in some baking.
  7. I just took the recipe from my bread machine and changed the sugar to honey, the butter to olive oil, and the white flour to ww. I do grind my own. I grind soft wheat berries for everything like cookies, quick breads, pancakes and waffles, etc. Oh, a friend shared about using 1/8 tsp vitamin C instead of gluten, and now my bread's a wonderful texture. I also like added some ground flaxseed for texture and flavor. Just do one change at a time. Oh, my family could never switch to the all ww bread, so I do still have 1 cup of bread flour with the rest ww. You'll have to see what your family can live with. :)
  8. For several years, instead of gifts for the adults in my extended family, we had a white elephant game/exchange. The item had to be something you didn't buy. Everyone's got something available! We draw numbers to open a gift. You can either pick an unopened gift or steal someone's opened gift. If you steal, they have the same option. The game just goes on until stealing/opening are done. We have had loads of fun with this one!
  9. Okay, Michelle. :) Think address book where you can change out 'that page' for relatives who move all the time. Recipe book where you just add new pages in the right category when you get new favorites. I'm sure there are more ideas out there. :D
  10. YOu might like to check out the Sonlight offerings for economics: http://sonlight.com/money-management.html
  11. Amblesideonline.com has a rotation of artists to study. Here is a list of notable artists chronologically: http://www.behindthename.com/namesakes/lists/z_artchro.php
  12. Unfortunately, we do work around dh's crazy work. He's self-employed, and in and out all the time. Everytime I decide we're going to stick to set hours, he'll be home needing me to do paperwork with him to start the day or something. He regularly interrupts with phone calls (necessary for his work) during the day, and I'm also the 'office' receptionist. It would be very nice for him to have a regular schedule. I think we'd get a lot more accomplished. :glare:
  13. Hey Margaret-- What's the difference between a Grand and a Reserve? It did seem like the number of entries at the county fair was way down last night. Dd-8 loves looking at all the animals, and I drag the kids through the 4-H and other display booths. Dh and the boys pretty much just go for the demolition show, tho last night it was the figure 8s. I always let dd pick out about 4 rides to go on. We do always splurge on fair food, too. I can't leave without my bag of kettle corn!
  14. Does your family attend the county and/or state fair? Do you enter items in the fair? We generally attend both. I never realized there were fairs when I lived in IL, tho I'm sure they were there. We're still 'city folk', but the kids have lots of friends who enter items in the fair.
  15. Yep. They all go on sale at least once a year. You could also check the swap boards to see if someone if selling them.

  17. Just read these two ideas in a homesteading magazine: Fill a spray bottle with 1/2 lemon dish soap-any brand- and 1/2 water. Spray everything: plants, shrubs, grass, etc. Something in the lemon soap changes the ph in the dirt and drives ants away. Planting tansy around the house. (I'm thinking this is poisonous to kids tho...) I've heard the cornmeal idea before, too.
  18. I'd pick up, and then do something fun with the kids. We have the county fair going on here this weekend that we'll attend. Today I'm in the mood to accomplish something. I'm grinding wheat, making bread, and blueberry syrup. Since I deep cleaned the living room yesterday, I'd like to take down the sheers in there (and the kitchen curtains) and wash those. Ideally, I'd like to clean the carpet in there, too. Dh wants to do billing (he's self-employed) before we go to the fair, and we do that together. As long as he's out doing his errands, etc., I plan to get a lot done--for a change! Oh, yeah, also had a nice long chat with my mom and a friend I haven't talked to in a few weeks. And, the laundry's getting done!
  19. Check out Amblesideonline.com for their art study. They have a yahoo group where you can print them out. Also, I think Rembrandt is a bit later in history. You can also buy little artist books from Dover. HTH. Tina
  20. Okay ladies. I've tried searching for it. Hand over the recipe--please??:drool5:
  21. We're at the kitchen table and in the living room. We don't have a classroom.
