  1. Beautiful quilt and beautiful daughter made even more awesome by signatures of cool people :thumbup1:
  2. I rediscovered coloring a few years ago while dealing with the stress of a parent with dementia. My kids were coloring something for school and I joined in. I felt so relaxed that I went out that day and bought myself a new box of Crayola 64 and a coloring book. I prefer using pencils now, and I've actually found the regular Crayola pencils to work just fine. Marty Noble illustrates some of my favorite Dover coloring books: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=dp_byline_sr_book_1?ie=UTF8&field-author=Marty+Noble&search-alias=books&text=Marty+Noble&sort=relevancerank ETA: a friend recently posted a resource for free coloring pages you can print: http://www.muminthemadhouse.com/2015/04/19/free-colouring-pages-for-adults/
  3. We had a DVD player bag that hung between the front seats. DD's eyes were directed there to watch movies and that helped. She has hung a blanket over her window. Thankfully, she's growing out of it. She mostly sleeps on road trips now.
  4. Oh, but wait. Today I saw a FB friend of a friend say that she wondered what kind of "teaching" Josh had when he entered puberty and how would he know right from wrong if he'd never been taught  .
  5. Well! That IS very unexpected  . I love Bing. The pictures are pretty and I think I've gotten about $30 in Amazon cards from using it as my search engine. Worth it!
  6. I cried my eyes out because my mom wouldn't take me to that Duran Duran show!
  7. I noted in a post upthread that I am equally disgusted by Lena Dunham, so my answer is yes.
  8. I think that's why I'm finding this all so upsetting. As the mother of a son that is the same age Josh Duggar was at the time he molested his sisters, I just feel sick reading comments by people that think this could be chalked up to a kid making a mistake or acting out on normal curiosity. It's making me fear what goes on in more homes than I care to imagine :( .
  9. I'm not typically affected so strongly by reality show skeletons, but this one really has me rattled and I think it's because of some of the responses I'm seeing on FB! So many people outraged at a Duggar "smear campaign" and saying that he was a kid and "made a mistake". I'm horrified that people think sexually abusing a child is a "mistake". Do people really think like this?! Has someone posted this yet? I saw it posted on FB by a JD defender. The author tries to equate incestuous molestation with consensual sex among teenagers. For real. Cast the First Stone: Josh Duggar (Had previously been titled A Christian Defense of Josh Duggar. Wonder why they changed that?) ETA: The author of this article also brings up Lena Dunham. FTR, I am equally disgusted by her.
  10. I don't consider myself an expert at anything, but as others have stated, I'm a good partner if you're playing a trivia game. The reason I get random phone calls and messages from old friends is typically related to cat questions/help because I have a million cats (not really!) and I used to work at a cat exclusive veterinary practice. I also get wildlife questions. I've been certified to rehab, but decided not to get licensed through the state because *people* are crazy. My standard rehab responses are "Put it back" and "Leave it alone" .
  11. We bought this Hello Kitty Janome on clearance at Target a few years ago for $20. I actually went back to buy another one the next day because I couldn't believe the quality of the machine for $20! They were sold out, of course. Here's the link on Amazon so you can read reviews, but it can be had for less on eBay: http://www.amazon.com/Janome-11706-Hello-Sewing-Machine/dp/B0012PTMAG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1431999616&sr=8-1&keywords=hello+kitty+janome I've used it myself for several projects that I didn't feel like lugging my beastly 1960s New Home around for :)
  12. Thanks for all of the suggestions! I never thought about going to get fitted. That's a great idea. I've always worn crap shoes and now that I'm getting older, I just can't do that to my feet any more! Admittedly, some of the brands mentioned, I've never heard of before, but dh had a pair of New Balance that he loved. I'm just going to find a running store and spend some $$$ on my feet. They're worth it.
  13. I need to find a pair of good walking shoes. I have to put in about 70 miles of walking before August. This will mostly be on paved "Rails to Trails" kind of paths. What are your recommendations?
  14. My son takes Zyrtec daily or he just becomes one giant hive. We've dealt with it on and off for years and finally figured out he has dermatographism (also referred to as 'skin writing'). Any sort of pressure on his skin, like his back against a wood chair, would start off a chain reaction of hives. Zyrtec has been life changing for him.
  15. The Bronze Horseman. It was recommended to me as a fan of Outlander. No. Just No. Hated The Bronze Horseman. Hunger Games #1....I *think* I finished it. Does it really matter?
  16. Thanks for that video. My son was born in S. Korea on 4/14 (a 'few' years ago). It's nice to see some pups get their freedom on his birthday :)
  17. My mother had Sjogren's. It presents in many different ways and she also suffered from several unexplained medical conditions for years without a diagnosis. I remember her ears and throat being itchy all the way back to 35+ years before a diagnosis. She was originally diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis years before Sjorgren's. The Sjogren's diagnosis came after she had a minor surgery. That surgery threw her body into autoimmune heck and she end up being hospitalized for more than a month in one of the best hospitals in the country. They considered Lyme, brought in the communicable diseases team, and still had no idea what they were dealing with. *Finally*, they did a salivary gland biopsy to confirm Sjogren's. Autoimmune diseases can mimic and piggyback on each other. It can take a long to diagnose. I hope you find answers.
  18. I developed a silver streak at my part line that dh fell in love with. He very sweetly asked if I was going to continue coloring, would I leave that streak? I gave up coloring right then and there. I'm 45, still have my streak, getting more at the temples, and a few strands around my head. I wish it would hurry and go ALL silver now.
  19. I put this on my wishlist last month because it was out of stock! I'm making my way through some Dover coloring books to tide myself over. Thank you for so many cool suggestions, everyone!
  20. Those are super nice. Some of my bags definitely need to be replaced, too. They've lost their flimsy little bottom. I'm sure our baggers hate me!
  21. My dd was sitting here when I looked up rice molds. She thinks we need those, too :)
  22. I already have one :) On my wishlist, so it's definitely a possibility. I've been on a fluffy kick for a while. It may be time to change things up!
  23. I have one of those! I've used it for years and I love it! Ohhhhhhh, silk sounds nice. I have some pens in my cart right now! I love office supplies. My husband is practically demanding I buy that darn happy spoon! This is something I could really use. My current spice "organization" is not working.
  24. I have a couple Amazon gift cards burning a hole in my pocket. They only total about $30, but I think there are wonderful little things out there, that I don't know about, that will make my life easier and/or happier. Please share your favorites :001_smile: .
  25. I could not be friends with such a person.
