  1. I agree with hellen. Carbon Chemistry would be way over the head for a 8 year old.
  2. Using it with my 8 year old DD now. She loves The Elements. I added mystery of periodic table, Lot of chemistry videos (Peter Weatherall dvds), Beakman shows, Happy Scientist . This is a Chemistry year for us. Both of us love it. I think it depends on the kids. My daughter is crazy about chemistry and this clicked. I considered NOEO chemistry for awhile but I felt it was not meaty enough. Instead I got chemistry kit from homesciencetools and we are set.
  3. Please comment. DD8 from book 2: Narrative 1 The rich Sage The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. He thought to himself, "what shall I do? I have no place to store my crops?" So he thought to himself " Maybe I will buy some boxes to store my crop". He went to every store in town and bought lot of boxes. When he went home with his boxes, he quickly dressed and packed his crops. He went out on the street and yelled, "crops for sale!". Everybody bought a lot of crops. The man had made so much money than every before. He rushed to tell his family. But he decided to buy a flute. His music was so beautiful that the his whole family rejoiced. If you are wise, You are gifted by God.
  4. I did give her placement test. She passed it easily. Actually lot of CLE 500 might be review for her. She know prime factorization, LCD,GCF, PRIME/COMPOSITE, 2 digit division ..adding and subtracting unlike etc...But I would like spiral to solidfy those. I also want to make sure that concepts are not lost in between procedural...
  5. Hi all, I am trying to decide between Horizons 5 and Cle 5 for my DD8 who is done with MM4. I would need more spira for her as the concepts get deeper. Which is better conceptually? I plan to supplement with Process skills, CWP, Zacarro, LOF fractions twice a week. But also I would like a program with good word problems in it. CLE 500 or Horizons 5. Please help me out.
  6. Hi Halycon, Hope you are still using Horizons. are you still liking it? Do you think it is better than MM (conceptually)? how are the word problems in it? I am deciding between CLE and Horizon. I am super confused. I am also not as mathy as my daughter. lol
  7. I am so used to Asian math for 4 years, I am scared to switch. at the same time, we need a change. I need someone else explaining the math. How is it with word problems? as rigourous as Singapore?
  8. Is it rigorous? Thank you
  9. Hi Ladies, Any reviews on BJU math 5 DVD program? We are switching from MM4. I want something as challenging as MM and hand holding as well. We will continue process skills, primary math challenge and beast on the side and CWP. Else is it too much? Will just BJU and CWP suffice? Please help me choose
  10. I am seeing the MIF placement test for 4A. If dd is able to complete, does she go to 4B or should she be placed in 4A?
  11. Is math in focus stand alone and how are the word problems in it?
  12. Bumping it for you. My dd8 is also finishing up MM4B in a few days and she wants something new and colorful. I see BA as a supplement for some reason and not a full curriculum. I am an afterschooler right now but considering homeschooling strongly this year. We do zacarro, CWP, IP to spice it up. I also don't want to keep supplementing MM. I would like all-in-one math. HELPPPPP
  13. Hi Ladies, I am thinking about homeschooling my DD8 this year. I am afterschooling now. She is pretty advanced in Math. I am using MM with her. I am considering homeschooling with her because of her figure skating. She is passionate about it. And she is very gOod at it too. So I want her to peruse her passion. I want handholding yet rigorous curriculum. She is very STEM oriented child. Loves math and science. Well, mom not so much :( Do you all think BJU DVD program (whole program) would serve out purpose? Else following are my options: BJU DVD Or Math: MM, BA, Zacarro, process skills Spanish: ? Science: Ellen Mchenry elements with Experimebts once or twice a week Literature: CAP, Killgallon, vocabulary workshop, lots of reading. Logic: logos liftoff Music: piano lessons Please critic and options on BJU pleaseeee
  14. Thanks a lot ladies. I am so confused with all these wonderful curriculums available !!
  15. Hi Ladies, As always I am turning to you guys for advise. I am planning to do Chemistry with my rising third grader. I am looking into Ellen Mchenry Elements. How did you guys use it? Did you use any chemistry kits with it? How many days per week did you do? can a non-sciency ( even if that is a word😜) teach it? Does it have a student book? Another Question. My DD is a very science oriented kid. She loves robotics. Is there a way I can encourage her at home? She is a competitive figure skater and there is no time for her to goto a class. Thanks a lot ladies.
  16. If you don't mind me asking, why do you want to change? To answer your question, I have both and CLE lines up pretty much with MM. But MM is pretty advanced in concepts. Did you try placement test for CLE?
  17. Thank you ladies :). Now I am at peace :hurray:
  18. I am in the same boat. My just turned 8 DD started MM5a and she is devouring it. I got 4A beast academy to keep her stalling! Do you use new version or old version of MM? If you use new version, aren't some topics covered in MM6? From what I read, if you use older version it should not be an issue. Maybe more experienced moms will chime in and confirm.
  19. Ok ladies! I ordered BA 4 today. But do I have to be a mathy mom to do it? I am not mathy at all but my dd is. She gets frustrated soon though. I am nervous now to let go off MM and get on the BA train. Any advice?
  20. Thank you so much. Can I use this as spine and also does this teach problem solving?
