  1. Ladies! Dd7 has been doing math mammoth and she hates the curriculum concept and wants to move forward. She mastered multidigit add, sub, multi and long divion(with divisors till 12). she wants to learn fractions and she knows the basics. Do you think it is time to move on to key to series and finish it and hit the algebra or slow down. She knows time (elapsed) and finished money with mm. did area and perimeter as well. We also do CWP and Primary math challenge on weekends and she does very well with it. I am tempted to key to series but math mammoth is very conceptual? please do help me out here ladies.
  2. what math do you use for afterschooling? does anyone use teaching textbooks? I use math mammoth and I find it hard to explain sometimes and it is making things unnecessarily tough. I end up frustrated so does my daughter. She is very smart. I think fault lies with me because I cannot explain thigs well enough. Help please!! Her school uses Mifflin Houghton and They are doing place values (millions and rounding now). My daughter finished mm 3b and wants to learn multiplication. I am not good at it and end of it I yell which I hate. I would like to outsource it to video curriculum. Will teaching textbook do the job and will it have some mental math aspect to it? Is anybody using teaching textbooks for afterchooling? I am going insane. We tried cybershala and it just adds to the schedule and it is too much math.
  3. We do love math mammoth. It is just that she just turned 7 and I am bad at explaining things. Thanks a lot ladies. And Cybershala owner called me yesterday to set up a free trial. It is on sunday and let us see how it goes. @drum1019, Can you please do send me the contact info for the tutor? It will be amazing if we find someone else to tutor on nominal cost other than me :)
  4. Hi ladies, Has anybody used cybershala or isingaporemath? couldn't find any reviews on them much. Old users or new users of these programas can you please let me know how it is? I am using math mammoth now 4a with my 7 year old. But I guess, I am scared to teach her anymore because I am not good at math. Would love somebody else to teach her nd most important how much time does these programs take? Please let me know! thanks in advance
  5. Thanks a lot ladies. I am wondering if there is anything spiral and conceptual math out there that I am not aware of?
  6. Hi Ladies, Thanks for being there for me always. I am trying to switch from math mammoth to cle. My daughter is 7 year old and has completed MM 3b. I realize as she goes to higher grades and since she is on a younger side, she need spiral. How long does it take to finish a cle math lesson? does it need supplementing? is it conceptual? Can she move to cle 400 from math mammoth? is it good at mental math? How are the kids prepared for pre-algebra? How is the SAT scores? thousand questions running in my mind. And most important I afterschool. She is already in a very good private school and with good math curriculum and she says she is bored. I want to challenge her at home atleast. She does cle LA and is loving it. Does cle math takes more than 30-45 mins math? Please do chime in for me ladies.
  7. Thanks again ladies! Order of operations is covered in MM3a. She is my oldest and I agree. I need to slow down and I think I listen to her when she says she wants to move on next chapter. I am going to stick with MM and add in reviews more often I guess. Thanks a ton ladies. What would I do without you all? :)
  8. Thanks a lot everyone! She has all her multiplication and division facts down and she can do 4 digit addition and subtraction in her head etc. The thing is she forgot the whole and part in missing addend yesterday in the review and the prder of operation. she got everything else rite. But she should have gotthen them by now. But when she did multistep word problems, she was excellent. This is what is confusing me. I lost my temper as well (My bad! I agree). Both of us were in tears. I love math mammoth and it is done brilliantly but I thought maybe I have a problem explaining and maybe video lecture is better. :( Even more confused now.
  9. Hi Ladies, I am in a fix. My second grader is starting mm3b. She is very good at math. But something tells me the stuff doesn't stick with her. I have to give her hint in review each time we do it. But during the lesson and practice, she gets it in 1 or 2 times. I am thinking about switching her to teaching textbook. Took the placement test and she is placed in math 4 and in table of contents she knows more than half of math 4. Should I go ahead and place her in math 4 or math 5 or should I continue with mm. Please do help!! I am in a complete fix. Thanks in advance.
  10. Hi Ladies, I am so grateful to the hive. I have learnt so much from you ladies. I have a question about MIF and MM. I am an afterschooler. My rising second grader is about to start mm 3b. We love mm but the space annoys her and also me. She starts to whine and I get frustrated, we end up fighting. You know hoe it goes with girls. She saw the sample of MIF and loves it. I am wondering if I should change it to MIF. Any longtime users of MIF here? pros and cons? Should I add enrichment and cwp(Singapore) to it or will the tm,textbook and workbook suffice? She is a fast learner and she prefers color and fun which MM lacks. I don't like Singapore Primary for various reasons. Do help me ladies!!!
  11. Can I supplement math mammoth with aha math? Is it good? Any aha math users? Pros and cons please share!

  14. Hi Ladies, I am confused. I am afterschooler. My dd7, raising second grader is doing mm 3b. She loves ba and I am not good at math. So I enrolled her in Athena and classes start in august. My issue is MM is excellent but I have hard time explaining stuff. She is independent mostly but I know that I am worst at math and I need hand holding. She is doing Miffin Houghton at school but she is far ahead. Can I ditch MM and lean on teaching textbooks? or chalkdust grade 4 math? I need halp with grade 4.Please advice. Math takes most of our time. So I would like to minimize that and mix up lot of literature. She is a hyper kid. She has hard time not doing anything. So she is kept busy throughout. Thanks
  15. Hi, I am free browser on this forum for a long time and you ladies have been immensely helpful. My story is that my DD7(just turned 7) is very smart and we afterschool with mm3 and she is almost finishing with mm3a.we also do beast academy on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I have mm4 and I was looking into. Though it is well laid out, I am sure I cannot teach it bcoz I am horrible at math and I am not good at teaching. should I consider TT with her for grade 4 and up or chalkdust math elementary grade 4? Please do help me out ladies. I don't want her stagnated because of me. She loves reading. Rather than letting her read higher level books, I hand her out the classics and in depth books. I am not sure if I am right.
