  1. That is very common in my home country, too (Germany), as are real candles. You burn them for just a short while and watch them all the time.
  2. Sounds like it could be Merci Minis. Here in Canada you can buy the normal size Merci at London Drugs. Edited to fix auto-correct
  3. Kitsilano Beach Granville Island Richmond Night Market Commercial Drive Lynn Canyon (also has a suspension bridge - slightly shorter than Capilano but free) Lighthouse Park (West Vancouver) Renting bikes to cycle around Stanley Park English Bay If you like ice cream: Rain or Shine on West 4th Avenue
  4. We have just started it and so far my son loves it (we've only done one session so far). We watch the videos and then he tells you to stop the video and do an experiment. When you get back to it he will do the experiment as well. I like Jim's energy, he's pretty calm and sometimes funny.
  5. My son loves Gizmos! He can do his own experiments. And I was surprised to even find full lesson plans. PLATO got the thumbs down here - rather boring.
  6. Oh, sorry. My son is big on concepts and hates memorization - so he got the idea immediately but didn't want to bother memorizing the order of the days (he also learned letter sounds and what they do before learning letter names or the alphabet song). I can see how the song wouldn't be helpful in that case. Sorry I misunderstood.
  7. But maybe listening would work? My son learned the days of the week from watching Mathtacular. Justin sings the days of the week to the melody of Ode to Joy. That happens to be one of the few melodies I can remember so I sing it to him frequently and he now totally knows the days of the week.
  8. I would check in to see if they have a promo. When I called because a promo code they had e-mailed me didn't work they told me they actually had a better one on at the moment and the 12 months cost me $2 more than the 6 months. My son also whipped through the lesson pretty quickly and is now reading books on Reading Eggspress - they have a great variety of books on there.
  9. My son did the K-2 Intellego unit study on goods and services. We liked it quite a bit but he blew through it very quickly. So I was glad I got it at half price. But we did some activities that spun off of it because of his interests so that was fun. My son is 5 but probably working on about a 3rd grade level or a bit higher in social studies. I will next check out the 3 to 5 Intellego economics unit studies. Intellego has a function where you can look at about the first third of the document, btw.
  10. http://adaptivecurriculum.com/us/ I don't know how different uzzingo is. I think HSBC does give a description of the differences on their website. It is my understanding that the content is the same. With adaptive curriculum you can either create your own lesson plans and include your own materials or link to other websites (I love that) or you can use their lesson plans. The student then moves by themselves through a string of teaching objects and activity objects. There are quizzes, too.
  11. We have Activity Objects by Adaptive Curriculum which is the same content minus the game aspects. Best homeschooling investment I ever made. My son loves it and he learns a ton! I believe that that trial is longer (two weeks maybe).
  12. Haha - science at 11 at night - sounds like my son. Would you mind sharing which Great Courses you guys like? Thank you. Stefanie
  13. That sounds great! Yes, the "real" thing is very large (almost as tall as the child). And if the child has siblings they each get a small one. I love that! I have one brother who is a lot younger than myself and the older brother. We were 19 and 22 when the youngest had his first day of school. But our mom got us each a small Schultute nevertheless. There is a wonderful photo of the three of us with our Schultuten cradled in our arms.
