  1. I think the Vivienne Files are perfect for the over 50 crowd. I learned about that website from a sewing forum I'm on where most of the participants are around that age. :)
  2. What a dumb move! Netflix is really losing its appeal. I don't think Netflix has proven itself in its originals to offer themselves as a replacement for Blockbuster movies.
  3. A capsule is basically a (usually smallish) wardrobe consisting of essential items that don't go out of style that can then be augmented by seasonal items & accessories. Project 333 is big right now; using 33 items for 3 months. I'm not that into it because I don't think I even have 33 items that I rotate through. You don't have to start from scratch; look at your current clothing & find a couple pieces that you really, really like. Ask yourself why you like them? The fabric? Pattern? Versatility? Fit? Then go from there. I avoid any & all of those "10 (or 100) Items Every Woman SHOULD own!" I do not need a cocktail dress. I just don't. Un-Fancy has a wardrobe planner that I like the looks of. The main thing is to ask yourself what kind of clothing your lifestyle requires. It's totally fine if you're a jeans & t-shirt kinda gal (I am!).
  4. If you want to start from scratch, I recommend these sites :) I'd also recommend looking at it as a long term goal, not something you'd do in a single shopping trip :) Putting Me Together-Wardrobe from Scratch This series was revolutionary to me. It might be a little "young" for some (think Old Navy & Target) but the tips are applicable to all demographics, I think. Putting Me Together- Choosing a Color Palette I've been buying only within my color palette for 2 years now & I can happily say I don't own any wardrobe orphans. Everything matches everything else. The Vivienne Files-Starting from Scratch This is more LL Bean & Lands End style and the approach is really in depth, including seasonal pieces. The Vivienne Files: 4x4 Wardrobe- This is really smart...I've never seen a wardrobe approached this way. I'll just quote the site: "A Four by Four Wardrobe is a 16-piece group of clothes that is chosen four pieces at a time - four pieces in the first neutral color (which is call a Core of Four), four pieces in the 2nd neutral color (also called a Core of Four), four piece which combine the neutrals (which is called The Expansion Four, because it expands your options to combine the two neutrals), and finally 4 accent items (called The Mileage Four, because it gives you enough "tops" to be able to wear the "bottoms" in your wardrobe more frequently, and not do laundry constantly). Lots of these wardrobes will also include The Integration Four (or more!), which are accessories that help the new garments work as complete outfits."
  5. I've said this before, but my first step in a capsule wardrobe is to pick a color palette. I use jewel tones (turquoise, yellow, magenta, purple, and navy) and grey and brown for neutrals. That way everything I buy matches everything else. I can grab and cardigan and any top and they look great. As for every day pieces, I need boots, flats, skinny jeans, cardigans (four seems to be a decent number), light weight scarves, and basic t-shirts. All in my chosen color palette with a few classic patterns thrown in. My favorite scarf is my leopard print one. If I'm wearing sneakers I wear boot cut jeans and a t shirt with a scarf or just a zip up jacket/fleece. I don't really like the looks of cardigans with sneakers on myself for some reason.
  6. Well thank GOODNESS you posted this Luanne! Surely you've saved countless souls today. :001_rolleyes:
  7. I think most on a classical homeschooling board would consider it twaddle. BUT it does have some good talking points and it is also the kind of book that kids who hate to read would be more likely to enjoy.
  8. You don't need to match, but it is nice to be coordinated, I think. Pick a color family; jewel tones, neutrals, bold, bright...whatever and go with that. :)
  9. You need to check your state's licensing website. I know here in Washington we check the Secretary of State. Then we registered it as an LLC (not always necessary) and then we registered for a business license at the State of Washington Business Licensing Service. On one of your state department websites there should be a checklist of sorts to walk you through everything :)
  10. Yes!! That's exactly what he's doing. Haven't washed his bowl lately (though now I'm thinking I probably should). Bill, thanks. I was wondering if that had something to do with it. I'm not opposed to feeding him exclusively out of his Kong...but what a weirdo. :D
  11. Our guy is 8 months old and he's finally getting to the point where he's quite enjoyable rather than just being into everything all the time. We've always fed him twice a day very consistently (and he would gobble it up instantly) but he's more or less stopped eating from his dish. At first (3 days ago) he seemed to just graze throughout the day, but now he doesn't even seem to be doing that. His 'breakfast' is still there when I go to feed him his evening meal. The toddler seems to be feeding him graham crackers and the like so I wonder if he's just like, 'Yeah. I'm over this dog food thing.' I just filled his Kong with his regular dog food and he's happily going at that. He's not lethargic, he's still playing tug and fetch like crazy so I don't think it's his teeth. He's pooping like he always has and he's drinking plenty of water. Is there any reason I should be worried? He's acting exactly the same as always (and his food is the same), just not wanting his food from his bowl.
  12. See...that's the thing I can't get over. These boys are being told every day of their lives that they are incapable of 'controlling their urges'. That they are victims of Satan, of women, of this wicked world. So it's no surprise that they grow up believing it. If you're told every day of your whole life that you have terrible handwriting/can't cook/whatever then at some point you're going to become a self-fulfilling prophecy (because, oh woe is me! I just can't ____. I'm not even going to try). AND THEN they marry women who feed into it (and go so far as to blame themselves)! "Oh, poor husband! He couldn't control himself enough to not view porn or sign up for an affair! If only I had ______________." No, honey. There are PLENTY of what you would call "ungodly" men who DO NOT have affairs.
  13. I don't know...I think that's ok. I have mine on shutterfly and Mozy. I'm always hearing about external hard drives getting fried and losing data so haven't ever used one, but that's probably my lack of tech savyness showing through.
  14. These are going to take more time to prepare than I had thought. We don't have 12x18 paper so I'll have to use a binder or file folders and I'm going to have to take the book apart and make copies of the reproducibiles (which I think I knew when I bought it, but I'd forgotten since then). Does anyone else use these other than how they are designed? I imagine they make good notebooking supplies. I'm starting to hate content subjects because of the prep involved.
  15. I've been having this problem on my kindle again today.
  16. I love the YNAB philosophy. I've been slacking on budgeting lately (because I've been overspending) but I really do need to get back to it.
  17. If you trust the utility company, another option is to have them withdraw the exact amount of your bill every month on whatever date you choose. The bill pay with online banking is initiated by your bank, where as the auto withdraw is initiated by the biller itself.
  18. We're buying a small grocery store in a small farming community in Washington. The current owners have been very helpful in every facet, but they have a family member who is an accountant doing their taxes and just from what little I do know, we'll want/need to have things set up differently than what they've done.
  19. I've been using online banking for 10 years or so & I've never had any problems on the bank's side. I have had it happen where the biller received the check but didn't process it until after it was due. But in that case, they usually "mark" the payment as received and then back date it once it's paid. I think any downfalls you're having with using online banking could also happen with paper checks. Something to keep in mind, some billers are paid electronically & others are paid by means of a paper check. And with my bank at least, the checks are issued from the headquarters back east, not here in the PNW where my local branch is.
  20. That's kind of the problem I'm coming up against. I know the generalities of both, but I'm afraid that there's going to be one hidden gotcha; one unique-to-us scenario that is going to mean we should definitely do one or the other.
  21. My husband and I are buying a business. We're going to need an accountant, but right out of the gate, I'm not even confident in saying that we should form as an LLC or a Sole Proprietor/Partnership. So that's the priority. Any advice on questions I should ask? Also, are there any accountants on here that I could use to 'fact check'?
  22. Jehovah's Witness here....didn't occur to me to be mad....saving best for last and all that  I've been surprised by how many Witnesses are on this forum...I think I know of 6 others? Also, JWs are listed under "Bible Student groups" on the Wiki so technically the OP didn't forget us :) but I wouldn't have seen that and thought that was what I should pick; interesting none the less.
