  1. Mama22alyns, LFC I know but what is MP latin? Ravin, what do you like/dislike about Lively Latin?
  2. I will check out Getting Started with Latin and Lively Latin. Thank you. I was looking at Latin for Children but really don't want to spend a hundred dollars on it at this time.
  3. Thanks for the feedback! We have and love the coloring pages. I am leaning toward the notebooking pages but think my kids would like the lapbooks better...oh decisions!!
  4. I was leaning heavily toward EG for my 5th grade son. He has completed FLL up to 4. But after looking at JAG I think it will be a good fit. I agree with JessJ, I like that it is a short 11 weeks. We are going to focus more heavily on writing this year.
  5. Oh mine would have loved the dvd! We just had the cd and they loved that! I think I will SSL for the K & 2nd graders, but something different for my 5th grader. I am leaning toward Latin for Children A for him...but still very undecided!
  6. We did Song School Latin last year. My kids loved it. But I am thinking my 5th grader is ready for something else. I see all these Latin posts and I am getting so confused (which is easily done!!). Is there something I can do with all three (k, 2nd and 5th)? Or should I just let my little ones do Song School Latin 2 and get something different for my son?
  7. You all have been SO helpful! Thank you!! I am not on here very often but when I need an answer I always know right where I will find it...HERE!! I am googling all of it now :)
  8. Anyone using MOH vol 1? We are starting the cycle over this year and there are a few new supplements created by Bright Ideas that they didn't have our first go around. I am a curriculum junkie. I love it!! So I need help deciding what is needed and what isn't. For instance, do I need both the notebooking pages and the lapbooking pages? Would you use both? I have the coloring pages already. And am getting the flash cards..I think...Help!
  9. Thank you! I will check out both move beyond the page and simply grammar!
  10. Thank you Merry! That is very helpful :) I am going to check it all out now!
  11. Thanks for the feedback. If not Easy Grammar, do you suggest anything else? He has a pretty good foundation in grammar from FLL. I don't want to lose that!
  12. I can't find this on their website. But I am interested for my 2nd grader. I plan on using WW2 with her too. Can someone give me the link?
  13. My head is spinning. I would appreciate any feedback I can get. Here is what I am planning with my 5th grade son. He is a very reluctant reader although showing great progress. We have been with a charter school since we began in Kinder and this is our first year flying solo! I feel like a huge weight has been lifted but I want to make sure I make the right choices for him. Math U See (works well for him) Mystery Of History - We are starting back at ancients Anwers in Genesis for science Lively Latin (suggestions welcome...we did song school last year and it was too easy for him) LA (my major problem area! suggestions please! We have always done FLL prior to this year) I like Total Language Plus for the vocab and comprehension but I feel like I need to supplement writing, spelling and grammar so what is the point?! Spelling - either AAS 5 (we have done 1-4) or R&S spelling (only changing because the school is no longer funding my curriculum habit ;) But if R&S is not as good as AAS then I don't want to change. Thoughts? Grammar - Easy Grammar?? Writing - IEW Ancient based writing lessons (although I have a friend suggesting I shelve writing for a year and focus on getting him reading at grade level 1st. Thoughts?) Reading - This is a huge one...I personally feel like I do better with a curriculum in front of me, but I like the idea of him reading books that line up with history and writing. What do you do for reading? If you don't have a curriculum which books do you choose? I would love to see your lists! Ok am I missing anything?
  14. We tried Singapore (for 3 years) and Teaching Textbooks (1 year) before finding MUS. MUS has been a GREAT fit for us! I love that they can watch the video without me if need be and get started on their lessons. It saves me lots of time! And they are "getting" it too.
  15. Thanks I will check those out!!
  16. ETC? Sorry some of these acronyms are new to me still :) Olive isn't solid on a few letter sounds either. Review would be good!
  17. My daughter wants to read. She has completed AAR Pre-level 1. But she isn't interested in level 1 or any other reading program I try with her. She LOVES workbooks. Are there any that would help with phonics and early reading?
  18. We are starting our second time around next fall with ds. It will be the 1st time through for our little ones. I love MOH for this reason! I can use one history for all three and just add activities/additional reading for their grade level.
  19. We are going to use Easy Grammar next year with our 5th grader. I think it will be a good fit. He has done really well with the traditional diagramming in FLL so I don't think transitioning to just labeling the parts of speech will be difficult for him at all.
  20. We don't do a full days work during the summer, but I like my kids doing something so they don't lose what we have worked on all year. Any ideas for websites, workbooks etc for us to use. My brain is just not functioning anymore ;) I have a 4th and 1st grader. I plan to read aloud every day to fill in the gaps in our American history. But I would like to keep them reading, and doing math. Suggestions?
  21. Welcome to the CA! I will be filing my own private affidavit this fall :) We have been with Connecting Waters for 3 years (and were with another charter before CW). I plan to leave one child with them for another year. IF you did go with a charter...a good ES (education specialist) will make all the difference. But if you don't have to go that route for financial reasons then I recommend going on your own. I have never home schooled without a charter and frankly I am addicted to the funds! LOL! But I hate hate hate to jump through their hoops or the requirements they put on my son if he doesn't preform like they want him to, hence why we are pulling him out after this year is finished. I am in the Central Valley but have spent a fair amount of time in the bay area. Lots of educational things to do with the kids!! To answer your questions...yes you can make your own schedule when you file private, just keep attendance, don't worry about local schools at all and no testing (my main reason for leaving the charter!!).
  22. GSWL? I have looked into Lively Latin. It was on the top of my list for the fall. Is it good?
  23. I haven't used Memoria Press so I can' comment there. But I agree Lulamae...look for a home school convention in your area. They are a MUST in my opinion :) I love to actually open a book before I purchase. And listening to great speakers really gets you excited about this adventure :)
