  1. I really like it. It is easy to use and fun. I learned a lot about art myself while using this program. I would try to find it 2nd hand though. I see them from time to time on the swap board here. Even if you purchase it new, it is well worth the price.

I just it for a co-op class one year too. Just love it!!!

  2. The Christmas Porridge-- Is this the sour cream version, the flour version, or the rice version? Dh is from Oslo; it's tradition for his family to have grøt with butter and white sugar on Christmas Eve dinner. :) (Breakfast is always bread "with something on it". (pålegg) and soft-boiled eggs. )

Rice Version. Haven't heard of the other versions. Just asked DH and he said he hasn't heard of those versions before.

This is the same side of the family that enjoys lutefisk dinners every year! Grandma used to make lutefisk to go with the prime rib & yorkshire pudding for Christmas dinner too.

  3. * Cinn Rolls (quiver fulls recipe. Normally do cinnabon, but trying this out this year)

    * Christmas Porridge (served with choice of: butter, br sugar, heavy whip cream, 1/2 & 1/2, and raisins)-This is tradition from when DH was a child and he visited his Norwegian grandmother. We have done this for several years and our family has come to love it. At first it was a small spoonful and now we have more than one serving of it.

    *?Maybe 1 quiche ?

    Fruit Juice

Friends always spend the night so we have another group breakfast the day after Christmas. I usually do quiche, but want something simple this year. Thinking of a hashbrown casserole. We shall see! :-)

  4. Wow, yeah, that's a totally different story.

Our homeschool group has an annual picnic, but each family provides its own food and beverages, plus a dessert to share.

For our homeschool picnic, the group supplies drink, cups, plates, etc., but asks families to bring something to share. Now that is up to each family to decide what to bring; salad, main, dessert, appetizer, etc. Some bring more than one of something, some bring one thing. It is nice, but man, we had LOTS of desserts last picnic and not enough "main" meal stuff (funny though, I am sure everyone got enough to eat! I chock it up to the fact that God always provides! ;) ).

Maybe the dessert to share might be a nice idea.:D

  5. I don't eat dressing. I don't own dressing, I don't make dressing. If someone were stupid enough to ask me to bring a salad, it would come dry. I have to eat (or avoid eating) salad with pre-mixed dressing that others' make all the time. If it's okay for others to force dressing on me, then I find it perfectly okay to give them my idea of a perfect salad (or yes, they can use whatever they like that they have in the fridge). Or maybe they should ask me to bring just dessert and/or appetizer instead. :tongue_smilie:

Now if you told the host that and they still insisted you bring a salad, they deserve grass! LOL J/K. I wouldn't do that, but I'd think it. :tongue_smilie:

  6. To me, it would really depend on how many families are coming. If there are going to be 10 families, then they can each bring one item (lots of it), and there will be 10 different things to eat. But if there's only going to be 4 families, then I'd want more than one item per family, for variety.

    :iagree:

I don't know, but perhaps my friends and I have two many kids AND husbands that LOVE to eat food. I try to bring enough so I know that there will be a variety of food for all. Not saying I supply all the food, but depending on how many families, how long we are there, etc., I sometimes will bring more than asked (usually 2-3 items). (Example Thanksgiving gathering for 4 families/approx 23 people, I brought: Boston cream pie, corn casserole, green bean casserole, bacon wrapped smokies & gingerbread triffle)

  7. :iagree: Same here.

Ya, I agree. When I bring a salad it usually requires a special dressing that I mix in when it is time to serve. Not a "salad" bar type of thing to a pot luck (unless it is a salad bar luncheon). Maybe that is what the host is referring to. Maybe the "s" was a typo. God knows I make MANY of those myself. :D

I also like to know about allergies (as other posters mentioned), etc. We have two close family friends that have allergies and I always try to do something for them if possible (or ask them to bring that item), along with something ... well... FOR ME!

  8. I would contact the buyer, let them know that the zip code in the paypal database was incorrect and the package was returned to you. They may be wondering where it is. I would let them know what the shipping expense was and ask them to send that amount again due to this error.

Then go from there. They may say, sure. :-) and you're done (any reasonable person would if they indeed made the error in the database).

If they bulk at it, then you get to decided if you just want to refund them and resell the product(s). You will have to weigh out those things personally. Maybe it is worth it to go halves, etc. But who knows for sure.

    Good luck!

  9. Don't know how well this would go over, but here it goes...

I for one like when I am invited over (for larger and even smaller gatherings at times) and the host tells me what “they” would like me to bring: salad, appetizer, dessert, etc.). I have even had specific requests if they know that I cook something well, or it if is something of a themed meal. I always ask if there is something I can bring if they didn't mention it and more often than not they say, oh yes, please bring this or that, thank you for asking, I wasn’t sure if I should, etc. I find fun and creative new recipes to complete this task, or use my tried and true ones.

When it is a larger gathering and I am hosting, I do write down what is being served. If there is a gap, I will ask someone to bring a salad, or appetizer, or drinks, etc. Sometimes they ask me and I let them choose, and sometimes I just say can you bring such and such (but let them choose which time to bring. I have had some the best food that I never would have tried before by doing this). But believe me, as hostess, I am always do way more cooking then needed... well because I am just that way. :-)

If the host didn't "assign" things to bring, it could be highly possible to have all appetizer brought, or no rolls, no drinks, etc. Often the Host has spent a large amount of time preparing for the event: cleaning, cooking the main meal, doing a appetizer, dessert, sides of their own, etc.

I have always felt it to be my special gift (privilege really) to help provide all I can when I head to someone else’s home for a meal.

In short, yes, bring the dressing. ;) I like how one person said, chips with dip, or shrimp with cocktail sauce, etc. The two go hand in hand. Who knows, perhaps this host has had this issue before where she asks someone to bring a salad and then they didn’t bring dressing to go along with it and either, no dressing for the salad, or all their dressing was used (this is annoying). Perhaps they learned that they need to be specific in order to provide a wonderful assortment of food for the guests that are about to enter their home.

  10. If the posts have an option to contact them via email (if they put their email in the sales posts), I would contact via that way instead of through WTM board. Some folks don't have their account set up to receive emails from this board to their regular email account, check their PM's, etc.

Being a new member with a low number may be another reason. BUT if that is the case, I certainly hope sellers would reply back and say such thoughts instead of leaving a new person hanging.

I would wait no more than 24 hours. You have no obligation to purchase until you hear back from them, knowing they have the said item, and confirm with them that YES, you want it and you would like to pay with whichever method of payment you choose. Sometimes I do contact a few sellers about a particular item and will purchase from the first one that replies back to me.

On the flip side, some sellers will get 5 email messages about an item and will sell it to the first person that pays (not the first person to contact). People handle it in many different ways.

    And welcome to the boards!

  11. What did you use that you were able to get OTC? The vet said I need to bring him in and that they will all need rx treatment. I can't afford it today, and I don't want to wait until payday. Vet bills are $$$

Well "if" it is the other thing the other WTM'ers suggested, then the vet visit may not be necessary. Why not just take them (your kids) today? If the dr. is full, is there another dr. you could see? Have something like prompt care in your area? Dr. office open on Sat? (I realize it may be afternoon for you too, so it just may be to late to take them in this week) Just saying you may not need the extra expense of the vet visit.

I know the feeling of what it is like when something (rash) happens to your child and you don't know what it is. We have been battling since mid sept with a rash my dd has. One dr. said it was it was a Scarlett fever rash (she was sick with a high fever about a mo. before the rash appeared), another one say allergies, and finally we went to a dermatologist this week and it is something else (he is certain it is something else). Hoping he is right! Third times a charm, right. :-)

  12. prime rib

Yorkshire pudding (rolls for those that don’t want the pudding)

    mash potatoes

    gravy

    and probably a corn casserole!

Someone else will bring the dessert.

And of course we always have appetizers beforehand! YUM!

Now every year we also do a Christmas breakfast (tradition!). We have either cinn. rolls or quiche with Christmas Porridge. It has taken several years for our family (especially my mom) to adjust to the porridge, but we wouldn’t change a thing. This breakfast is something my dh grandmother always did on Christmas morning, so I have carried on that tradition with my children.

Forgot to add: For dinner, DH cooks the rib and the pudding every year! I just need to do the potatoes (assign DD to make these), gravy (get Mom to make it!) and a veggie! Easy Cheesey for ME!!!!

  13. Here is a helpful link with video that I used when I first tried the type of booklet shown at this site. It does explain what a valley and mountain fold is as well.

    http://www.squidoo.com/three-square-unfolding-book

Bascially it is just a fold in the paper that is referenced as a mountain (folded upward), or a valley (folded downward). Each lapbook will have them. You can do many different types of booklets and they will have a mountain &/or a valley fold.

Here is a quick one page example:

  14. The Template Pack from Hands of a Child works wonderfully for this; you can also get the Type It In version (on ebook) that will allow you to either print blank booklets or type in either titles and questions or these plus answers (if your student prefers to type or is learning to do so).

I love the TTI versions for my older children! Great keyboard practice too!
