  1. You might want to see a real life Lyra? My friends' daughter. http://www.therebelheart.com/charlottes-blog/2014/10/19/getting-crafty-custom-animal-pillow-for-lyra.html
  2. My children are not allowed to be lawyers. Less than half of my law school classmates are practicing today because they were so miserable -- myself included.
  3. Where does one buy math nerdy posters? I think my son would like some.
  4. After swimming today (I'll try not to rub it in that it is over 80 degrees in San Diego right now)... Sacha (5): "I'm pooped. I need to go relax." He then goes into his room and turns on Mixtures vs. Compounds on the Brain Pop app. Chillaxing, homeschool style! :)
  5. We used Progressive Phonics (free! check it out!) to build reading fluency and ELTL for CM-style narration and copywork (and eventually dictation and sentence diagramming, in the higher levels of ELTL). It is a great combo for us. My son loves it.
  6. If it can give you recipes, I am all over it. I requested an invite.
  7. As a certified couch potato at the moment, I have to say that this thread is very inspiring. Thank you!
  8. I think I am going to go for it. I need to update my makeup. I will definitely use your referral link. :) Would love to hear other thoughts as well.
  9. The ads keep popping up on my newsfeed and I wonder if it is worth it? Anyone have experience? Any other monthly subscription boxes that you like?
  10. Her father's paintings are vulgar and self-indulgent. I guess the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree.
  11. It's a good question. I'm not sure whether we would continue to keep the boat. If so, we could take trips back to SD. But, I think we're more likely to sell it and use the money to vacation or buy toys for our new locale. I appreciate all the recommendations. My husband and I are very intrigued by Bend, given its proximity to Mt. Bachelor. We're thinking seriously about it, and it never would have been on my radar. The Hive is awesome!
  12. Thanks for all the suggestions. So far, my snowboarding husband is drooling over Bend. Will keep exploring the other suggestions. :)
  13. This the main issue. I grew up and So Cal and just assumed the rest of the world was like my home. After traveling much of the world, I've realized how truly spoiled I was. :)
  14. Yeah, I am kinda over the nomadic existence. My husband would prefer to be sailing the seven seas forever. :) Is there any place that is reasonably affordable that doesn't come with a side of dust storms, monsoons, and venomous creatures? ETA: Anyone have any thoughts on Reno or Colorado Springs?
  15. What is the humidity/bug situation like in these areas? I assumed since it gets hurricanes that it must have a fair amount of humidity there.
  16. We did Puerto Vallarta for a year and learned that bugs and humidity are definitely not for me. My husband has a higher tolerance for it, but I just couldn't deal.
  17. I just realized this is in Gen Ed. I'm so sorry. I meant to put it in Chat. Not sure if a mod can move it. And no, living by family is not important.
  18. My parents are rolling over an investment property and are thinking about giving us the money to buy a house. They have about 350k to spend, which would not be enough for a home where we currently live (San Diego). Things that are important to us: Good weather. I cannot emphasize this enough. My husband left Quebec because he couldn't take the weather. I am from Los Angeles, and have a narrow temperature comfort zone and limited tolerance for rain. So, we are looking for some place with low humidity, few to zero bugs, and as many days of temperate sunshine as possible. Seasons are ok, but Canadian-style winters, Florida/Texas summers, and Seattle/Portland rain are not. Things to do. We will likely continue to homeschool, so museums and other cultural activities, good libraries and parks, sports leagues for little kids, outdoor activities, non-chain restaurants, etc. are also important. Bonus points if there is a nice Jewish community. Assume that we do not have to worry about the job market since my husband's work is portable. We were musing about Colorado, but not sure if it fits the bill. Any ideas? Thanks so much!
  19. My Kinder is currently reading at grade 2-3 and we only do copywork (we use ELTL). If there are spelling issues, I'll address them later. We dropped ETC because it felt like busywork.
  20. Crimson Wife and others, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that you pay full cost, get regular priority, and don't have the credit limitations if you take the CHSPE.
