  1. I was given the Sonlight (2008 Alt Core 7) language arts guide and literature that corresponds to the now Core W one-year world history. I suspect I will struggle to find the guide for the History piece. I am a fairly new homeschool mom and I have really liked the lesson plans from Sonlight to help be my right hand. Any suggestion for a History plan to go with this gift? Thanks, Shelby
  2. Activities, We are taking a break next week, with some math review and fun projects. The kids will be making an edible cell, maybe dissecting a flower (I need some printables) and then cooking a Chinese meal (we are studying China). I would gladly take suggestions.... I am looking for fun and educational. Thanks, Shelby
  3. We are fighting the electronics as well. DS is 11 and this has been a battle for the last several months. I have taken them away completely for right now. It has been 2 weeks now and I can see some improvement. We will continue without until he can show me several weeks of getting his responsibilities completed. When that happens he will be allowed his electronic time back. I am leaning toward 4-5 hours a week and only after school and chores are completed. Good luck, seems like this is a challenging time. Shelby
  4. I haven't read all of the replies but it looks like there might be some confusion https://forums.sonlight.com/topic/332032-i-think-theres-confusion-about-sl-in-public-schools/ maybe a different company with a similar name??
  5. AngelBee, I was thinking of using this with my kiddos 13 and 11. One writes fairly well and the other not at all. I would be interested in hearing more about your experience. Thanks, Shelby
  6. I am looking at this too for my 6th and 8th grader. Anyone have luck with a reluctant writer? Shelby
  7. Thanks Texasmama (Texas is Home), You are making me feel much better, I will be glad to see their independence develop. We are all in this together for sure! Shelby
  8. Organization and follow through will be key I am sure. Maybe I should clarify what I mean by "compensation" . I do not believe in paying for grades or household chores. Those are expectations of being in the familiy. However, I feel like if they take care of the expectations of their work/chores regularly then we could compensate in some way. Say after 2 weeks a movie rental night etc. I want them to want an education so it's not about rewarding but just a good way to reinforce. Does that make sense? Maybe I am not on the right track. I am nervous but I think we are a strong family and have good support systems. Sorry for rambling :) Shelby
  9. We are new to homeschooling and I just ordered our first SL Core F that we will start in a few weeks. My kiddos are DS almost 11 and DD 13. I have to go back to work at least part time. I will be working for the first few weeks a split shift from 10am -3pm Monday-Thursday. Once I have the lay of the land I will be able to flex that more and I am thinking noon-5pm will work best for us, but I will have to see. I have talked with my kids and they are on board with getting started at 8am and then getting what independent work done they can as well as their chores while I am gone. If anyone has any ideas for an accountability/compensation system that I can employ that would be great. Thanks, Shelby
  10. Our family just began HS this spring with our 5th and 7th grader. I love the idea of Sonlight and am really excited to get started in the fall. I need some help on what I need to add other than Math and Science. We are really happy with Apologia and Math U See. WIth the update to LA last year do I need to add additional grammar? We are using Wordly Wise right now and I am thinking I may keep these, not sure yet. Any advice for this newby? Thanks, Shelby
