  1. Costco has a pack of 50 lidded containers. (Might be 25 bottoms and 25 tops) You could layer it sideways in those and include a small dressing cup. They're reusable but not as sturdy as an actual Tupperware container. You know all the 21 Day Fix meal prep stuff you see on FB and Pinterest? It's those black containers with clear lids. I have a pack for sending home extras with people and packing leftovers that DH will take to work. If he forgets it in the back of his car until there's fur, I'm not super sad.
  2. If it's from an organization, an email or call to whomever is in charge of sending them would be nice. I don't think you need a thank you NOTE on engraved stationery per se, but an acknowledgment that you received it and were appreciative is always appropriate. It's also feedback to them that the gifts are a good thing to continue engaging volunteers.
  3. It's higher than what our vet charges for dog and cat euthanasia, which usually is nothing but we have taken all of our animals to the same vet for 21 years now. I would call around to find someone who has specialized knowledge in pocket pets, but I wouldn't price shop for that particular service. StephanieZ explained it well. Vets tend to undercharge and get price checked more than other professionals with their level of education and expertise, and it's a very stressful job. I'm sorry about your pet. :grouphug:
  4. Video and call police. There was a kid in our neighborhood doing this. Someone posted on NextDoor to see if anyone knew whose car it was. Other neighbors of course did. Someone talked to the parents, a police officer came to chat, and the kid posted something on Next Door promising to drive carefully.
  5. Gymboree and Hanna Or handmade :)
  6. Chicken breasts cut in half (butterflied), seasoned with lemon pepper or BBQ rub or whatever, sautéed in a cast iron skillet. Steamed or roasted veggies or salad. Pull out prepared taco meat or pulled pork or shredded beef. Heat and season if it's plain pulled pork. Make slaw salad and slice some avocados. Serve with tortillas for kids. Or the pulled pork can be BBQ. On buns for kids. Frozen mini meat loaves. Throw in oven. Make mashed potatoes in Instant Pot and steam some green beans. French dip in the Instant Pot or crock pot. Make a bunch and freeze some for the next time. The sloppy Joes your daughter made tonight--next time have her make a double batch and freeze half. When I'm really done, I make mac and cheese in the instant pot for the kids, steam some broccoli or cut up raw veggies, and scrounge in the deli drawer for myself.
  7. There are about 30 calories in a bell pepper. Sustaining yourself on vegetables would take a ton of time and money. You'd be eating alllll day!
  8. My oldest went to a birthday party with that. They gave everyone a list (scrambled the order of items) and one person in the group took a group selfie with the item with their phone. They didn't use an app for it, just the camera feature. They came back to the start for the mom to check their lists.
  9. I used a Kipling Europa bag for a diaper bag and now purse for my last two kids. Amazon has free shipping and returns. There are a few similar bags in varying sizes. Also check out LeSportSac for lightweight bags with pockets. You can find them at TJMaxx and Marshalls too, but it is easy to compare styles on amazon. Their diaper bag is huge.
  10. I'm hoping it goes on sale on Prime Day. I will cover my ears and lalalalalaaaaaa about the plastic issue. ;) I'm just burned out on the decision making. If someone planned, shopped, and told me what to make, I would be thrilled. Figuring out what one picky older kid and two little kids (one who refuses meat) and DH and I low carb will eat... It's the minute details that are death by a thousand paper cuts for me right now.
  11. Could be another water imbalance than chlorine. Too high or too low acid burns your eyes and irritates skin too. Salt water pools still have chlorine in them. Salt is NaCl :) but typically they are more gentle on skin.
  12. I wouldn't want anyone's uninvited dog in my backyard. Simply for the waste problem if nothing else. I agree that I would talk to them first.
  13. You have to measure with yeast bread. I like USA brand pans (amazon is one place that carries them). They're nonstick but use silicone and not teflon. Glass isn't my favorite for bread. How warm is your house? You may or may not need a warmer spot for rising. I think it needs to be above 70F. You can put a pan of hot water in the bottom of the oven. If you have an older light in the oven that uses a traditional bulb, leaving the light on may be warm enough. The new LED bulbs don't put off enough heat at all. You can turn it on to preheat then off almost immediately (30 secs?) but you don't want it to get over say 100F or it will rise too quickly and fall. 14. Also, I LOVE my digital scale for baking. Put the bowl on the scale and keep zeroing it out. No need to dirty a bunch of measuring cups. There's a great weight chart on King Arthur Flour's site. Here's a hack of the 5 minute bread to make sandwich loaves (many others if you google :) ) http://www.thekitchn.com/noknead-bread-hack-how-to-make-105248
  15. Practice mostly, but sometimes things go sideways with yeast. Humidity affects it. Good yeast is helpful--I really like the kind Costco carries in a red white and blue bag like a coffee bag vacuum sealed brick style. I keep mine in the fridge. Also good, fresh flour. You don't want soft wheat (White Lily is one brand). Do you have a bread machine? You can mix it in the machine and bake in the oven, which minimizes teflon heating. I use my stand mixer with a dough hook most of the time. Check out Artisan Breads in 5 minutes. Try one of the free online recipes and see if you like the taste. There's a whole grain book as well. I bet the library has it. I have a large stand mixer, and a double batch of bread is very full. I don't think there's a home mixer that would handle a quintuple batch. If you do the Artisan style, you could keep a large batch in your fridge and bake as you go. My kids like sandwich bread baked in a Pullman style pan. I think those are handy for making nicely shaped loaves. There's a large and small pan size. I started with the recipes on King Arthur's site but found a whole wheat one we prefer.
  16. I agree. It's a reaction to one of the meds. It's happened to me every time I've had surgery.
  17. Yes! I would only let one of my cats in. The other is weird. And maybe DH but he would need to ask first.
  18. Was he given any IV medication? I remember hearing some really bizarro stuff when I was going in and out having my wisdom teeth removed. Snatches of conversation that I then combined in my head with my own dreams I guess. I think I had Versed. DH had Versed with a minor procedure and was telling me crazy stuff about a baseball player helping in the operating room. That's the medicine they give the people who then get filmed on the way home and get shared online to mock them... So thankful my parents did not do that, as I thought I could fly. Anyway, it might be that the doctor used other language which was enhanced by the effects of medication. ;)
  19. Yeah... The kids can go to their rooms or the den or the playroom or the yard. There's no reason for them to be where we sit in the living room right that second. I have an age gap in my kids, so the baby/toddler toys are in here and the big kid toys are in the playroom. I'm still supervising my little kids the few times a year I have adults over. The rest of my life revolves around the kids. If there's blood or some kind of emergent existential crisis, interrupt. Otherwise, asking them to give me space with my friend isn't unreasonable. I also give them space with their friends. If they want to include me on something, they come ask me. I can't imagine being expected to pay $15/hr for a babysitter just to have a private conversation with a friend. Plus $15/hr for her to get one as well? (Which wouldn't happen with out of town friends!) When I have a house with multiple (safe, clean, equally pleasant) spaces for kids to hang out? We aren't sending them to a dank pit of despair or locking them in a closet. Occasionally one kid isn't feeling the group thing and sits on the porch to read or does crafts in the other room. They can figure out some way to entertain themselves for an hour or so. Even if we were at a park, they could go for a walk or go swing or sit under a tree with a book.
  20. It's weird with someone you don't know well, and weird with a kid. Maybe trying to relate to a teen as someone said? DH personally and professionally knows the orthopaedic surgeon who performed surgery on him. The surgery was more complicated than expected and he came in to check on DH afterwards and said, "yeah the joint was super f@$)ed!" (He then went on to explain what he did in real medical terminology.) I cannot imagine him saying that if it were a kid even knowing that we aren't opposed to language.
  21. If they would be offended by your request and reasoning, that's a pretty good way to weed out for people to stay in your home!
  22. There's a light. It's central to the investigation. Originally they thought she ran the light. The white car pulling out in front of her is what prevented her from leaving the intersection before her green light ended.
  23. There's another article (People maybe?) that said she had to slow down when another vehicle pulled out in front of her, which caused her to be stuck in the intersection when the light turned red. They're now saying she lawfully entered the intersection. Here it is: http://people.com/crime/venus-williams-new-video-footage-shows-green-light-fatal-car-crash/
  24. And does it apply to anyone not in a Catholic-sacramental marriage? Plenty of heterosexuals only have a civil marriage. It's an interesting question.
