  1. What do you use? We're using SOTW for history so he gets some map work that way. Then we're using maps, charts, and graphs book A along with a DK geography workbook. I'm not sure its sticking though. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  2. I agree with this. I think many homeschoolers school year round. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  3. Back to the drawing board for me [emoji23] Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  4. Thank you so much, this is so helpful! Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  5. Maybe look at All About Spelling. It's very gentle and you move at his pace. At the same time, its very thorough and teaches spelling rules which works well for my perfectionist. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  6. My oldest currently does "notebook" to start each day which has fast worksheets that cover day of the week, how to fill out a calendar, reading a clock, temperature, season, practicing place value, etc. He's outgrowing it a little bit and I think next year I'd like to replace it. The Evan-Moor daily practice workbooks look perfect. Has anyone else used them for this? Any other ideas for what to put into that time slot? Memory work and read aloud will continue as they always have. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  7. The Singapore website is really not very helpful. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what the extra workbooks are used for. Would there be plenty of practice in just the workbook? My husband is dead set on trying BA one way or another so at this point I'm looking for something to pair with it / be a fallback. I'm pretty well talked out of TT and I can't see paying $120 twice for math anyway. I really like the look of math mammoth. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  8. It's another math question, I'm sorry. I have a 5 year old halfway through Math U See alpha. We're all pretty much over MUS and feel like it's holding him back. When he finishes this I'd like to switch programs. My original intention was to go to Teaching Textbooks basically only because it's so independent. That means he'd be "skipping" a second grade program and going straight to Math 3. I've heard that TT is about a grade level behind so this makes sense. However, my husband thinks TT is not rigorous enough and we'll be doing yet another disservice to him. He likes the look of Art of Problem Solving and thus wants to start Beast Academy for 2nd grade. It certainly seems a more rigorous program. Is there enough practice in it? My main concern with BA is that while my son has grasped math easily, he got a slower start with reading. We're still almost a year out from starting it, but I'm worried I would have to read everything to him and in comic form, wouldn't that be confusing? Any other suggestions welcome, too. We looked at Singapore but I am so turned off by needing to buy 87 books per year for it. [emoji849] That's the only other program we've looked at. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  9. My 1st grader started WWE, FLL, and SotW in January. All feature quite a lot of narration, which is a new skill to my son. This is not a skill I myself am very familiar with so I feel lost trying to teach him how to do it. I read him the passage, ask him the questions given in the manual, and then ask him to tell me what the passage was about or what happened or what he remembers. Is this wrong? So far he can almost never tell me. He gives me one word answers or says things like, "the king." I continuously ask him leading questions such as what about the king? What did the king do? Why? And then what happened? But it's like pulling teeth and I think I might be doing it wrong? Please any insight or tips to help us both master this skill would be so appreciated. 10. On the purchase form there is a notice that the ebook is not printable. I'm confused because there is also a kindle ebook for purchase. Can anyone confirm that the pdf is also not printable? Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  11. Well crud. I already have the paperback that has both. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  12. I hope you guys don't think I'm a super weirdo for asking this and I 100% own up to being extremely type A but... I have the SotW activity book here (and WWE is the same way) which I love but the first half is sort of teacher's guide while the second half is perforated student pages to be torn out. I don't know if I can handle the idea of tearing out the student pages and having this weird half torn out book as my manual. 😣 What do you do? I wish it was coil bound so I could easily unbind the whole thing, alas it is not. I don't know of a way to chop off the binding so I could put the teacher's section in its own binder. 13. Thank you! Another question: for those of you using Mystery Science again, are you repeating the mysteries this year or are there enough new ones that you haven't had to repeat any? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk
  14. I was planning to use Mystery Science for my first grader next year but now that I'm looking at the units in the free trial I'm not sure if there is enough content there for a full year. Or maybe I'm just seeing a very limited menu because I'm on a trial? Basically what I see listed for ages 5-6 or 5-8 is Force Olympics (2 mysteries) Weather Watching (2 mysteries) Animal Secrets (2 mysteries) - locked Spinning Sky (2 mysteries) Lights & Sounds (2 mysteries) Animal Superpowers (2 mysteries) - locked That's only 12 mysteries for his age range unless there are more somewhere I'm missing. That would be awfully pricey for 12 weeks of lessons,
