  1. Can you link to that please? I'm not seeing that one.
  2. Thank you everyone! I'll keep doing what I'm doing! He gets lots of praise and treats when he goes outside.
  3. I have a 14 week old puppy who has mastered potty-training 101, but I am kind of stumped about where to go from here. He is crate trained and never goes potty in his crate. His crate is very much his "den" and I have been trying to extend his "den" to include more and more of the house. Currently, if he is not in his crate, than he is either tethered to me or to an ottoman in the living room. He doesn't have any potty accidents in the living room area he has access to, but if I let him off the leash, he will eventually go down a hallway and piddle. My house is quite big and I can't really gate off any areas. How do I help to him to extend his "den" to include the whole house? All I can think to do is just follow his every move. Is he maybe just not ready for that yet? I know he is still young, and I very well maybe expecting more out of him than he is ready for. I could maybe get a longer leash to tether him with, but that will only help for so long.
  4. The discontinuation symptoms are the only downside to Effexor for me. I get them also, by the afternoon. The main one I get is numb, tingly lips and face. But it can progress to the others you have listed. The symptoms are very like migraine auras. I am getting better about remembering. And, now that you mention it, I think the eye thing was during an episode when I had forgotten to take my pill. "Brain zaps" are awful! I do know what you mean.
  5. I'm sorry you are dealing with this. It is the pits. I get migraines with auras as well. I get the weird lights, inability to read or speak, numbness in my face and limbs, and recently a new one where, I swear I could hear my eyes moving when I looked left to right. It is really hard to deal with, I feel your pain. I will echo others, find a neurologist. I take Effexor as a preventative and it has really reduced my migraines. I also have Relpax and Imitrex as rescue meds. They definitely help with the headache and help the auras to a lesser degree. I hope you find some relief!
  6. I like a mix of roasted carrots and sweet potatoes with s&p, cumin, coriander, and smoked paprika. So good!
  7. I, too, love Coffeemate! In order to reduce the amount I use, I have been replacing some with half and half. I'm slowly getting myself used to less sugar. I am up to about half Coffeemate and half half and half. I don't know if I'll ever give it up totally, but I am going through a ton less.
  8. This is probably the best solution!
  9. Does anyone have a clever solution to the "big dog dripping water everywhere when he drinks" problem? I have a microfiber dish drying mat under the water bowl, and I suppose it helps a little, but I still have wet floors all around the bowl. Aside from a ginormous mat/rug/towel, am I not thinking of some, clever idea? Can I train my dog to not walk away from the bowl with a mouth full of water? Ugh, why can't the dogs drink daintily like the cats!
  10. I get a ton of good books from a podcast called books on the nightstand. It's is great and they have a good website as well.
  11. The first night went amazing! Not a peep from him all night! No accidents in there either. Yay!
  12. We just got him today! I may be worrying for nothing though. I put him in his crate while I put the kids to bed and he hasn't made a peep! Fingers crossed he is a mellow dude! 😊
  13. I just got a new puppy and I am planning to crate train him. I've been reading a ton about the subject but I am finding a disconnect. It seems like everything I read says to get him used to being around the crate and give him treats. Then maybe a treat in the crate, treat for staying in for a moment, then a treat for shutting the door. Basically, very slowly work up to a minute in the crate, then two, three. This all makes sense except what am I supposed to do the first night? Obviously, I can't have him through all those steps in one day. I'm confused. Is the nighttime crating independent of the rest of the day crating? Help please!!!
  14. I have used Cetaphil face wash for a long time and love it and I've accidentally bought the skin cleanser, also. It is definitely not the same. I used it a few time and ditched it. I'm not sure if it is causing your problem, but just wanted to share that little tidbit.
  15. He is an in-network provider. I haven't looked into what my insurance says, I'm just going by what he said normally happens. I am at the beginning of this journey. I am just kind of dumb-founded that they would cover it.
  16. You are correct, it is usually not a first treatment. My case is a little complicated because I also have TMJ disorder and my jaw anatomy is most definitely the cause of my apnea. While standing upright, my airway is 75% obstructed and collapses further when I lay down. I will be getting a CPAP to try but my doctor doesn't expect it to work very well. Since my jaw is so far back, the CPAP likely will not be able to over come that. It will likely cause me significant pain due to the TMJ disorder. The other first-line treatments are either not applicable or already done ( my tonsils are already out, I am not over weight, my neck size and tongue size are small). MMA does not involve removing the soft palate. They remove the upper jaw and move it down and forward, along with moving the bottom jaw forward. In my case, I also need total joint replacement in my TMJ ( at least according to the first surgeon I saw, I already have an appointment for a second opinion). The main issue I am having is getting insurance to cover this. The first surgeon said, normally insurance will cover the hospital stay (up to 5 days), anesthesia, and the prosthetic joints. But they usually won't cover his surgeon fee. Which is $30,000. 😱 Why would they not cover that (I mean beside the cost, I get the insurance company not wanting to pay it, but it's clearly nessecary)?! Anyway, I am still not sure about the surgery and don't even know all the questions I might have. Just kind of hoping someone might have done it or know someone who has.
  17. I do have some questions, but I thought I'd see if anyone had experiences before I typed them all out. 😊 I'm having trouble figuring out how to get my insurance to work with me on this. And, also, experiences with recovery. DH works out of town and I'm alone with the kids. I will be able to get help but am curious how long before I can be on my own again.
  18. I have a bunch of questions about this surgery for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea? Does anyone have any experiences? Thanks!!
  19. These are all great points! I don't want really want two at a time. And I already have an elderly dog. I supposed I should have worded my post better, I am really just more curious about the runt in general. I won't be getting her. 😊
  20. Yep, we have a 12 year old Akita currently, I grew up with them and will always own at least one. I know the breed VERY well and understand all the reason why I *shouldn't* get one. I am very committed to the breed. 😃
  21. I went to see a little of Akita puppies yesterday. I picked out a male and he will be coming home in about 4 weeks!! But I have a question about runts. In this case, the runt was also the only female. The pups are currently 4 weeks old and she was less than half the size of the rest of them. I'd guess she was close to the size of the rest of them at birth. So, so small. Of course, I got super attached to her and DH said we should get them both. But I'm concerned there might be an underlying health issue. How small is too small for a runt? Would you get her?
  22. It is interesting that the same drug can have such different effects on people. I can take flexeril and stay awake and function just fine, although I won't risk driving.
  23. Also, good to know. Thanks!
  24. I didn't know they could be addictive. Good to know.
  25. Flexerill is the only one I've been prescribed.
