  1. Perhaps Python for Kids. My husband had my oldest start it after he finished Scratch. On the Amazon link there are more suggestions for kids to learn programing.
  2. Hi, I do not have anything concrete to give you and you did say you have found some websites, but perhaps these sites could steer you towards what you are looking for http://www.miseagrant.umich.edu/education/great-lakes-education-program-glep/ While you will be staying on one of the smaller lakes, taking a trip to a larger one and having the opportunity to go out on a floating classroom would be fun. http://superiorwatersheds.org/great-lakes-education-programs http://schoolship.org/ Have a fantastic time!
  3. One of our gift ideas for our 10 year old is a pen to write secret messages, you can view them when you shine the light on them. Along with that he is getting a decoder ring and a book for writing secret messages. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JIUJJ1E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A140XH5HZA5NY(ring) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J3BKCIM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00(pen) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0763629723?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00(book) Mad libs are another idea, I have a 12 year old that likes those to. I ordered the spy, ninja, and the worst case survival handbook mad lib. Both by sons asked for watches. My older son is a runner so he is getting a running watch. Hope you end up with some good ideas
  4. Could it be an irritation level on your son's part? I ask this because my son does not do well on reading comprehension tests, but if I ask him about the book even the same questions but verbally he will go into extreme detail. No problems. I've asked him why his written answers are not so well done and his response was that the comprehension papers irritate him and he finds them foolish so he just writes the minimum to be done. Lovely. So make sure he really isn't comprehending the story/passage, it might be that he just doesn't like comprehension papers. My son is just finishing up 4th grade in a Parochial school but has been doing these comprehension papers/questions since 1st grade. I cringe when I see the golden rod papers come home.
  5. We use a French press camping and when our power goes out. For daily use I have a Breville that can make a single cup or a pot with 4-12 cups. We actually have a Keurig Vue but I tested that so I got to keep it and my husband and kids took it over, lol.
