  1. Please give me some tips or advice for my issues right now during our morning read aloud time!! I have three boys ages 6 8 and 10, in the morning we do morning basket, which goes very well until we get to our read aloud, we are currently going through the Chronicles of Narnia. They claim to love this part of the day, and love the story we are reading, but two of my boys (the younger ones) cannot sit still!! They fidget, and talk to each other and walk around the room fiddling with random toys they find under the couch etc... I know that some kids listen better with busy hands... but I cannot read with the movement and distraction. I am a quiet listener, I sit still and keep my eyes on the speaker/reader and could sit like that for extended periods of time, so it's hard for my brain to grasp HOW they can possibly be listening and taking in the story while seemingly goofing off. I almost always end our reading time abruptly/prematurely and tell them to go play for a minute so I can blow off steam before moving to the next thing. If they only sat and drew, or built with legos I think I could handle it... but it's the getting up and chatting to each other that really pushes me over the edge... because of this it is taking AGES to get through our read alouds, which is not fair to them, or the one kid that actually listens. When they do this, I stop, and ask them to reiterate what I just read, and ask if they actually WANT to listen to the story, and they can generally tell me where we are at in the story, and that they do in fact enjoy it and want to continue... gah!!!
  2. i highly recommend going to a tattoo/piercing shop! it is safer, cleaner and less painful to use a needle versus the guns at Claire's etc... but yeah, I'd also skip the 16g and find someone who'll do 20g
  3. your dress is so beautiful! And your wedding venue is equally beautiful!
  4. I wouldn't say that navy plus jeans is too much blue! The model is wearing that and it looks great :)
  5. my mom taught me, (and now i tell my boys) that when you say "b" your lips close to form a line and when you say "d" your lips are open like the front of the d... It's harder to type out than it is to model in person LOL
  6. I just want to echo what others have said about getting your RE to check comparable listings, and get an accurate assessment... we bought land recently and we loved it and were willing to buy at the listed price. But our AWESOME real estate agent went to bat for us and insisted we could get a lower price... this is a clip of the cover letter she sent the sellers with an offer, they countered just slightly higher than her offer! Sounds like you need a new agent... This is just an example of a RE doing their work, checking comps, and actually representing you. "The market now seems to be at a point if a property is priced right and is without impediments, it sells quickly at list price. That being said, the property on XXXXX seems to be out of step with several recent sales of 5 acre parcels. I am attaching a thumbnail printout of them. This year in the XXXXX zipcode there have been 4 parcels sell at $72,500, $76,000, $82,500, and $92,000. None of them had Gun Club or Airport Noise. All had perc tests completed – all but one with standard soils. 3 had a building site cleared and a water share paid and one a $5100 hook up. With these comparable sales, I don’t believe your lot will appraise for the list price. The average of these 4 properties comes out to be $80,750 per 5 acre lot and again, 3 had a well, site cleared and standard perc. I hope this will help inform your decision as look at this offer. Thank you in Advance for your kind consideration of this offer."
  7. Everything gets washed together... I intentionally avoid owning anything white... socks are the exception and I'm okay with dingy socks [emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. Hi! I'm new here, and new on fitness pal... my name there is squiddles12
  12. Hi, I'm new... and really need help with abbreviations! However, the link in the first post doesn't work! Help!
  13. this is how i feel.... I can't help but feel compassion for every "bad guy" out there, and wonder who they were as a child, and what could have helped change their path in life... my heart breaks to see pictures of Hitler as a little boy
  14. I've heard some say that moms fall into one of two groups.... those who lose a bit after weaning, and those who put on a little extra after weaning.... (Something about how some bodies will hold onto extra fat while BFing vs. other bodies rev up their metabolisms because of BFing) I've never gotten to figure out where I am, because with my first kids I weaned while pregnant.... so now, on my last one... I'm REALLY hoping I lose weight after weaning... which will be in the next month or so as well. I have about 10-15 pounds that i'm having the hardest time dropping :(
  15. Nope... never! I desperately need to be rooted deeply in a home town, and want to give that to my kids too! I have a hard time imagining moving out of our town into another nearby area.... I was born in this town 33 years ago, and never want to leave :) However!!!! I am incredibly adventurous, and before marriage spent most my life traveling around the world, my longest stint away was 6 months, but I always had home to come back to.... when my youngest gets a bit older I want to start traveling more with our kids... but nothing permanent
  16. Well... the basement is a daylight basement... so it is where we go in and out to the backyard/garden, it is also where our woodstove is, where the TV/couch is, where the piano is, there is a full bathroom and a laundry room... it is the only place in the house where I will have room for our homeschool supplies... so it makes no sense for us to have a schooling space anywhere else in the house. I don't spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so that is not a worry for me. And, of course, I will never "demand" that a child stay in a specific place to study... I grew up doing my school all over the house, including laying on my bed or sun bathing on the roof... :thumbup1: I love the Reggio Emilia approach to learning... my whole home is painted in neutral colors, with lots of wood, plants and other natural materials, so I imagine the downstairs will be the same... decorated of course with the colors of my kids' artwork... Thanks for all the ideas!
  17. (first off, is this the right forum to post this in?) I have lurked on WTM for a long time, but just created an account today... we have a gutted basement that I am so excited to be able to finish in the next year or so! My husband is a contractor and will be building me custom cabinets/storage for all my homeschooling needs... with that in mind... how would YOU design it? I would love ideas from seasoned teachers, as my oldest is in K, so I don't know yet what I might wish for many years down the road.... I will have counter space with a sink for science/art fun and clean up... The only idea I had was a special shelf or drawer for all those posters that aren't currently being used... any other ideas? Or... if there are already threads like this somewhere... please direct me to them! :D
