  1. Thank you for the replies. He can write a short sentence from dictation, or a longer one if I repeat it for him midway. Sometimes it's hard to get him to retell the 2 sentences verbally that I scribe for him. I know he knows the story, but he's anticipating having to write the sentences so doesn't want to tell me what to write. He's good with the WWE copy work now, and will occasionally write 3 or 4 short sentences about a picture (getting to that point was a bear). I wouldn't be so worried, except I may have to put him in public (or at least private) school in the fall, and don't want him to be considered behind in any way. With the exception or writing sentences, I am confident he is equal to or ahead of his grade in reading, phonics/spelling, math etc. ;)
  2. We just started MFW Adventures, and I am reading the stories in the history books and then asking DS7 to tell me something about the story (Christopher Columbus was today) and I write the sentence or 2 he says, and have him copy it. At what point should I have him write his own sentences? thanks :)
  3. wondering does LLATL red have grammar (nouns, verbs etc)? and would it be better or? to PLL, FLL/WWE?
  4. Thank you all for the replies and sugggestions :) I will look into the AAS :) Just had him take the ACE word building test and it suggested starting him in #1037 which is 4th grade in their booklets. Didn't seem too bad. I do not make him work independently... he would never get anything done if I did that. Occasionally I will walk away to get something and tell him for example, to see how many math problems he can do before I get back. Little things like that. I think he may be bored, I don't think he's too challenged and we don't spend all day doing school (unless he puts up a fuss and it drags on all day because he refuses, once he finally does the work it is not long at all). He may think work is optional, but he is not allowed TV or motorcycle (his favorite thing) until work is done.
  5. I vote for a Brother.... mine gets good life on the ink and the ink is not too high of a price to buy. I think my printer cost around $100.
  6. How much writing should a first grader be doing. We are having battles over it. Any fun suggestions or curric? Thanks!
  7. We finished MFW 1st and were doing good with Spelling Workout A but lately it has been a battle. Any suggestions to brighten spelling time? ........ spelling isn't the only battle, it's hard for DS7 to sit and focus. Today he played legos all day to avoid school, and I canceled a favorite activity of his for the evening since he didn't finish the days work. He did good with MFW 1st and I rarely had a battle. Any thoughts?
  8. OMG writing. his least favorite thing. He was doing good with Spelling Workout A but lately that is a battle and I even cancelled one of his favorite activities today over it. Is there something better than that to use?
  9. To add science, how about R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey.... Life or Earth & Space?
  10. I may have to put my DS7 into public school (or Christian that uses ACE Paces) for 2nd grade in the fall. (by force of needing income/job) But will HS as long as I can. To better prepare him for the change, what curriculum's would be best between now and then to make sure he is above standards and not behind if/when he goes into a classroom? We just finished MFW 1st, and I thought he was ahead, yet I worry (I'm a worrywart) that he is not. What is expected of graduating 1st and entering 2nd? THANK YOU!!! :)
