  1. So for those of you who are talking about their traditional diet being a big factor, the Amish don't eat that differently from the rest of us. Obviously this varies between groups and families, but we have a decent Amish population where I live, and if you look in their carts at Walmart, they buy the same processed crap as the rest of us. ;) If you've ever looked through a cookbook of Amish recipes, they aren't like, "Go outside and slaughter a cow, then harvest some kale from the garden..." They're more like, "Mix a can of this with a can of this and a bag of instant rice."

They're definitely far more active than the average American, though. And have a bigger support system and closer familial ties, which I'm sure makes a difference.

Definitely this. My shopping cart is almost always healthier than the Amish or Mennonites in my town.

  2. I am paying attention to how I feel and I am on the verge of thinking 23 is not enough points for me. It really makes you focus on getting in good fats and proteins though. I ate at Chilis yesterday and had the mango chicken and did double steamed broccoli no rice. I took off 3 points for skipping the rice so I called that a 6 point meal.

Weigh in day is Monday so I guess I will see how it is going .

I get shaky by the time supper rolls around but I don't want to use my points for an afternoon snack. Anyone have a low point snack that will keep energy up and avoid the shakes?

Hungry Girl Scoopable Apple Pie (recipe online)/0% Greek Yogurt = 0 points.

  3. I'd rather eat/drink a smaller amount of full fat stuff than a bigger portion of low fat, fat free, or fake stuff. I don't mind sugar substitutes though. I switched to splenda in my coffee and kept the full fat half and half. It helped reduce my breakfast points. The only non-fat item I can eat and actually enjoy is non-fat yogurt.

I took a closer look at iTrackbites last night and the app doesn't seem at all intuitive. I'm not sure I want to buy any add ons if I'm not going to like the base app. Maybe I should just stick to something else. I have free versions of MFP, Lose it, and Google Fit. I will have to play around with each to see what one I like best. Hopefully by the time my WW period is up I'll have found something else.

I do think that even if I don't continue with WW I'll continue with some of the recipes that provide points. I like Skinnytaste and Emily Bites.

Slender Kitchen has really good recipes also.

  4. There are 35 weeklies. The blue dot zone is daily plus 5. 35 / 7 = 5. It means that you used a proportional amount of weeklies and therefore a it's a great day. It's meant to encourage steady habits, which are more likely to be long lasting. (And it's not a penalty to me if a day is 'not fantastic' -- those circles are bonuses, not requirements.)

Weeklies are different for everyone. I get 28 per week and 23 dailies.

  5. So, I'm trying it again...since I already paid for it. And my husband's aunt is doing it too,a nd I adore her. I'm going to tweak it though and count any lean meat as free, not just chicken breast. For variety sake. And work on making sure I get enough fat...so no fat free half and half (I hate myself for even buying it), etc. Using regular half and half in my coffee, and will use regular cheese, etc. And ignore that stupid blue zone thing. We shall see. If anything, I was losing too quickly when I was sticking to it strictly, so lets see if allowing some lean pork, etc works. And using up my weekly and fit points as needed. Without shaming myself for using them!

Also I only eat real cheese, full fat sour cream etc. I also have bourbon/lime/seltzer each evening and 1/2T heavy cream in iced coffee every afternoon .

I eat all my weeklies & fitpoi nts every week and still lose. I'm 2bs from goal ost 2.4 this week and was negative 81 points from a big meal out.

  7. I’m a former teacher and so is my mom and my sister in law is currently a teacher. This is not the norm in any of the school districts I am acquainted with. Yes, teachers spend their one money on books and various other supplies but not seats or things that you are mentioning and certainly not half a salary. Yes, it adds up, but what your describing is insane.

  8. I had this happen once, but not for cholesterol.   A dr had asked me if there was any chance I had an STD.  Absolutely not I said.  One ordered various blood tests including two that checked for STDs.  I had the lab slip, so crossed those off and did the rest - no issues.  The next dr asked if there was any chance... no... and I didn't get the lab slip.  I saw later that they had been tested - with no problems.  It was annoying at first because it does show the trust issue isn't there, but OTOH, I came to the conclusion that they probably can't trust many of their patients (or patient's partners), and in the big picture, it's just not worth getting worked up about.

With cholesterol, I really can't see any problem knowing the results.  I get mine checked twice per year just for my own info.

    However, with it all, YMMV.

I had this happen with a drug screen.  Went to the ER to have my foot stitched and they wanted to do a drug screen.  I said no I was not on any illegal or legal drugs and they said ok.  I was then billed for the drug screen.  So they went ahead and did it and then insurance refused to pay for it and the ER wanted me to pay.  I refused to pay it.

  9. Yes, girl, yes! Get that pixie. I got mine years ago and never looked back. I feel like I finally came into my own when I chopped off my hair. I have so much more confidence now. That won't be true for everyone, but it has been for me. You never know until you try.

I have pixie cut & go every four weeks. It is super easy to style under 5 minutes.

  10. I don't think this is unusual at all. I know someone very close to me who is probably not related to her "dad." I think all the people involved know it, but none of them has ever mentioned it around me. I won't be encouraging that person to do the DNA tests. :P

I also don't think it is unusual. Both my mil & fil found out as older adults that who they thought were their fathers were not.

My dh did not know his stepfather wasn't his bio father until he was 13. It has to be more common than we think.
