  1. I have the nook glowlight and love it. I can download books from the library with no problem. The ones off the Barnes and Noble site aren't really worth the time (imo of course) but between the library and other free sites I have enough to last a lifetime. I have had memory problems but that's only because I went overboard and downloaded a ton of free stuff at once. I think it was over 130 pages. But I love how it is light, durable and the battery lasts forever.
  2. I love strawberry and watermelon season.

  3. I do everything except fund. He funds the bills. I fund food, fun, education and gas. It makes sense for me to take care of the finances since he is gone so much. I do have a file entitled "in case I die" where it tells him exactly what needs to be done. He never asks but usually once a week or so I feel the need to tell him how much money we have in the accounts. He usually asks if he wants to spend more than $50 or so. We haven't been overdrawn yet and once I got my system down we haven't been late at all so it works for now.
  4. I have to work a 14 hour shift tomorrow. Today dh took the kids to the fair so I could get some much needed sleep. Normal weekend for us.
  5. Both mine take fencing and horseback riding which is once a week each. Then boy scouts is once a week with lots of weekend activities. Next year we are going to try to do two co-ops. My dd is very social and needs to be around other kids a lot. We live in the country and there are no neighborhood kids for her to play with. I'm not sure even that will be enough for her so we might have to add in more.
  6. You could see about cleaning houses and/or office buildings. I pay someone $60 to clean my 2,000 sq ft house every other week and I don't care that she brings her kid. Two of those a week and you're set.
  7. Dd is 11 and tried out ps this year but is returning to homeschooling next year. A few weeks ago I got her to pick what she wanted for science and history. She chose ancients and earth science and they are purchased and already in. Then it hit me. That's exactly what she's learning this year. She said she wants to learn it more in depth and that she isn't really learning much this year. So for next year do I go for something else? Or keep her with that? She'll be in 7th grade and has not yet had much exposure to modern history or physics.
  8. I broke 2 ribs and was rendered unconscious for a time by falling through a trampoline when I was 16. But I was an idiot who was jumping on a mat with a hole in it. We got one for the kids a few months ago. No injuries yet but it makes me very nervous. We're moving in October and I'm glad we can't take it with us.
  9. My dh has been a military pilot for quite some time now. They're cutting 60% of pilots for his aircraft right now so the civilian world is going to have a lot of applicants soon or maybe even now. If he wants to fly rotars the oil field is a decent paying job and shouldn't be too hard to get hired. My dad worked oil field and lots of them had their own pilots so there's plenty of opportunity in Texas, Louisiana and Alabama. It isn't hard to get your fixed wings licensed from your rotar.
  10. Last night ds's pack had a fund raiser at McDonald's. The leaders worked behind the counter and the boys did clean up in exchange for 10% of the profits. It took all of 20 minutes for ds to decide that it was no fun and that McDonald's wasn't the career path for him. lol
  11. We just moved to a place with well water for the first time last year. We don't do anything special but it is a rental so the landlord might. One thing that was a pain was that in the winter the well would freeze. So if you live in a place where it gets cold, put a heater on the pipes so that you have water in the morning.
  12. We had our spring camporee this past weekend. Ds had a blast! Three days of non-stop sports and fun. We had very cranky children last night.
  13. In 8th grade I had a teacher that would tell us all about her drunken episodes. Sign stealing, clubbing. The works. I think this is the same one that threatened to run us over with her car if we ever registered to vote Republican when we were 18. There was one band teacher that was the stand throwing type. Every single practice would wind up with her locking herself in her office in tears bawling. In high school we had one teacher that would get caught having teA with female students a few times a year. Nothing was ever done because he was also the basketball coach and we made state champs almost every year. A 7th grade teacher used to talk to her stapler, trash can and other supplies. She named them all and would cry if you stapled your papers too hard because you were abusing Bobbie.
  14. Fun! Both dh and I are taking Sept. off of work and packing up the RV and doing just that. We each picked a place to go and have figured out a cost estimate. We all can't wait.
  15. I calculate it yearly when I do our taxes. We have enough. I'm working right now to finish paying off our mortgage and get more invested. Theoretically, dh can retire in 7 years and neither of us will have to work again if I keep bringing in the small amount I do. He'll only be 39 so I doubt it'll happen but that's our goal. Not sure why my font is off or why I can't use the paragraph function.
  16. I take long naps in the afternoon. I get home from work at 3 a.m., sleep until 5:45 when I have to get dd up for school. After she leaves at 6:20 ds and I start with his schooling. He is usually done by 11. I sleep until 3 when I have to get ready for work. Foil over the windows helps get a good nap in.
  17. Next year is already bought and I'm working on all the little extras now. But I am still second guessing my choices and finding things to add in. It never ends.
  18. This year ds is homeschooled but dd is at ps. I feel bad sometimes because I get to spend so much time with ds whereas due to my work schedule and her school schedule I only see dd for a few hours a week. There are times when it is unavoidable when ds has to do school work when dd is home. I just make sure she reads or she'll do some old homeschooling stuff we have lying around.
  19. My rainbow resource box should be here today! Yay! $400 worth of goodies!

  20. Ds is still loving it. He lives and breathes scouts right now. He's already packed for his first camporee which isn't until the last weekend of the month. He did get his webelos badge at the Blue & Gold with the rest of his den so he was very excited about that. Right now they're starting Arrow of Light for next year and are working on some STEM stuff.
  21. I have a 2007 Toyota Prius. I get roughly 49 mpg. Right now I have 109,000 miles on it and zero problems. I love it. They have the new Prius C cars out now where you'll get better mpg and they're cheaper than my bigger one. I thought about getting me one a few months ago since I drive 150 or more miles 5x/week but decided to kill the one I have before I bought something new. They looked really nice and it was very tempting.
  22. I love my Canon Rebel. It's about 6 years old now but still works great. I've never messed with a Nikon. We use our Panasonic Lumix for just about everything now though since it is easier to carry around.
  23. Kids first fencing lesson today and they fell in love. WHY can't they love something cheaper??

    1. Miss Marple

      Miss Marple

I always wanted my boys to take fencing but there were no places around here that taught it. Enjoy!

    2. Sahamamama

      Sahamamama

Hmm... let's see. Baseball or fencing? Football or fencing? Basketball or fencing? Fencing is so much cooler than throwing a ball around!

  24. I would have voted for "take a nap" but it wasn't there.
  25. My mailman is awesome. Yesterday he stopped by my house a second time on his way home because I had some books come on the afternoon truck. I apologized for having about 7 more packages in the next few days come in and he just laughed. He said I was job security and he understood because his wife homeschools.
