  1. From what I remember of the A Beka readers TE, it is much like the kids books, but the have the answers to the questions and a few other things that can help the teacher...maybe a little background on the story, or extra comprehension questions to ask. I found that if you are reading the book with the kids, there isn't too much more to get out of the TE. But maybe that was just me. But if you are not reading with the kids, and you would like the answers right at your finger tips, it helps. But i believe that A Beka makes just an answer key with the same stuff as the TE just the stories themselves are not included....So that might be a cheaper option to look at.
  2. There are some really good classic graphic novels. We have three of the Shakespeare, Dracula, as well as Jane Eyre. The kids really love them. This is a link to one of them on Amazon!
  3. Ditto on all the above. I was thrilled to find this year a graphic novel of shakespeare bringing the stage to a book! It had all the original text of shakespeare but the pictures really grabbed our interest!
  4. I know! I was so excited when I called this year and heard they were doing free shipping!
  5. So i guess you are looking for a little more than Veggie tales? I remember watching a series that had several kids going back in time to Bible events. I think it was called "The Greatest Adventure" series. But there wasn't singing and dancing.
  6. Twelve Dancing Princesses and the Gentle Giant. If we can only list two! I love fairy tales and rewritten fairy tales.
  7. We make Caesar dressing at home all the time. Because we do worry a little, we boil the egg just a bit (soft boiled), enough to cook the white...3 minutes. And we add the egg yolk into the dressing before the olive oil. Throw the finished dressing on Romain lettuce and its delicious! I love our recipe. It does not have a long shelf life.
  8. My husband teaches voice lessons privately in person and online using Skype and has taught kids from 8 yrs and up. He rarely takes them younger than 9 but evaluates each case individually. He received his Master of Music Degree from Manhattan School of Music and has been very well trained in voice. He says that young voices can be ruined with improper guidance but, that doesn't mean they should not do lessons. Good vocal habits are good to learn at any age! To do a shameless plug, he does offer free trial lessons at www.DanielForan.com
  9. We would do Pita Pockets! fill them with chicken salad or whatever the kids love. It tends to be less messy and easy to take. Anything we took we always wrapped generously with seran!
  10. I would love to have one of these for our neighbors dogs who bark all night!
  11. Bugs! We live in the desert and dont have too many bugs, but we have cockroaches. They love to come in from the outdoors. One dead, alive, inside, or outside is enough to make me pull out all the stops! I just cant stand them!!! Every speck has to cleaned, not a crumb to be seen before i am satisfied there are no others who have come in! Ants and such other critters also can send me cleaning.
  12. We love basil boats and no testing required! but i must say only 1/2 ever make it to the function we take them to, and I have to slap hands to get that much there! It is really simple... Pluck and wash basil leaves off stem... then smear a good amount of goat cheese on the leaf put slightly sweetened fresh diced tomatoes on top and lastly for a little crunch, lightly toasted pine nuts sprinkled on top! they are so cute, and easy to eat without utensils. Another fun idea is Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus it is really easy too... you slightly cook the asparagus (either steamed or roasted...but be careful, you dont want the asparagus to be too limp!) then wrap the cooked and cooled asparagus with Prosciutto...and cheese if you are the die hard cheese fan i am! These are both very easy and don't take too much time and they don't have to be taste tested! Not really cheap...but foodies would love them!
  13. I was once told by my doctor because I was uninsured, that if i took garlic(whole clove...crushed if u can manage it) 3 times a day for 3 days is like being on a antibiotic! But she warned me that it can really turn the stomach!
  14. i agree, if you are paying her for 1.5 hours, there needs to be 1.5 hours of work with your kids. You are paying her. She has agreed to come to your house, she should be punctual. It is only respectful. My husband gives voice lessons online. He is alway sure to be on time. If for some emergency (such as the power outage last week), he is unable to be there on time he CALLS! Its just good manners. And it should never to habitual. But i do think, you should discuss this with her. But if even after that, she is late, I think it is time to look for other options.
  15. At 6, I think children wont pick up on the not kid-friendly elements. My husband received his masters from Manhattan School of Music. He has been classically trained with an emphasis in opera and teaches voice lessons online. He tells me...Yes, operas on the whole tend to involve inappropriate situations, but they are usually approached in a very subtle way. Also they are often sung in a foreign language as well, giving your daughter even less chance of being unduly exposed. Translate as you wish according to the child's age. The experience would be wonderful! There is such a sad lack to arts in our world today, that I think it ought to be fostered where ever it can be found! If she loved the performance before, it would be sad to miss this opportunity!
  16. Scones, fresh fruit and coffee! Yummy, but right now your bagels idea is making me hungry!
  17. Darby O'Gill and the Little People!!! We always pull this movie out and of course The Quiet Man. Then we eat traditional corned beef and potatoes. Lots of green too. My grandmother loved her Irish heritage and St Patricks Day was almost more important than Easter!
  18. I have never done Beginning Drawing or Painting myself. But as a just-for-the-love-of-it artist, I would say, start where your kids are interested! Yes, there are elements of drawing in painting. But starting out, it is best that the kids LIKE art! Just my thought...
  19. You should keep it. I have a tiny tea set from my great grandma I love! i never played with it when i was young, because it was porcelain, but it was from her, and i treasure it!
  20. Oh yes! it makes all the difference in comfort! I remember my first fitting, and the lady was so sweet. She told me most women are in the wrong size bra!
  21. Another Seed Savers buyer here! I just love getting their catalog!
  22. I love to do them periodically. I never did it for weight loss, it was always just to reboot! I found that i had lots of energy during, but especially after the juice fast. I usually do them for 5 to 7 days. It was always hard to start because things always seemed to pop up(a party i had to attend, friends coming over for dinner, or any such thing). But once I always loved it. For me, the important thing was to never let yourself get hungry. The one fast where I got hungry, I seemed never able to get ahead of the hunger. I found that a bunch of small juices were better than three big ones. I sometimes had a few aches and pains, but nothing major. The juice fasts were always easier with a buddy! (and the juicer is easier to clean RIGHT away!) The most amazing thing for me about the juice fast was how wonderful veggies tasted afterwards and that I craved veggies! I tried to put veggies in my juices I didn't normally eat. And yes, apples to make some of the combinations palatable. Its a great experience, try it!
  23. My aunt has a concrete floor. They did a wash on the concrete. I dont know if you can go back to it now...?
