The sandpapery rash makes me think maybe scarlet fever. My kid started with sore throat, headache, and tummy ache on a Monday, fever on Wednesday, and rash on Thursday.

I was also going to suggest a cavalier, but that might be because I am biased. My boy is fantastic with children - both our children and strangers. He loves going anywhere we go, and in fact loves to hike. He became territorial at about a year old, so he will bark at anyone coming to our house he didn't know as a puppy, but absolutely never bites. And he gets along fine with strangers outside of the house. Find a reputable breeder and make sure the parents are both heart clear. We were even able to meet the grandma who was heart clear and just died recently at 14. In fact, we live pretty close so I can recommend a couple of breeders. I think they would be okay with change, as long as they are with you. We take him places, but we've never traveled overnight with him because we have a fantastic sitter. I don't know about water because we've never tried. I always worry about how long it takes his coat to dry, but I suppose if you groomed them short it wouldn't be a problem.

My early symptom was bloating. Both times. I can't remember exactly how early, but definitely before missed period and testing. It's been several years since having my boys and there's been a few times I've thought I was pregnant (breast tenderness, dry heaving, cramps, nausea, etc) but wasn't.

I don't know how helpful this is because we haven't used MS very much, but when we do it I go over the new words Logic of English style and then I dictate the passages. So far my kids haven't had any trouble with the passages so we haven't needed to spend more than one lesson on each passage. I'll probably need to change that as we get further along.

I love burt's bees lip shimmers, but they definitely have a little sting to them. I didn't like their tinted lip balm as much because it seemed to dry out my lips, but I don't remember that having a sting. Another product without the sting you could try is neutrogena's revitalizing lip balm. Sunny Berry is a great color. Or maybe their moisture smooth color stick, although the one I have has a bit of sparkle.

My DS hit the same bump in 3a. I had him go on and do everything else in 3a/b, but he still wasn't ready to grasp long division. I switched him over to CLE last year and that really cemented long division and math facts for him, but I plan to switch him to MM this year. Younger ds switched to MM after SM1b because he is very math-independent and found the TB to be tedious. They both started BA this summer. I would absolutely recommend MM for your DD. So far it's working really great for my independent DS. He's now in 3b. It's incremental so he can be more independent without being totally off on his own. He can handle only bits of teaching at a time. So this works for him. I'm hoping it will end up working out for older DS too. He needs variety and review, so I need to make sure to mix up some pages for him. I bought MM when it was on sale at HSBC so I have every level. Even after SM1b I still went back to MM1b and gave him a few pages to fill in the gaps. SM and MM are similar but not exactly the same S&S. If you aren't able to get the MM bundle then I would suggest taking the placement test. If you can afford both, go ahead and get BA as well. Both of my kids are really enjoying it for summer math, and we'll probably continue to use it as a supplement, but I can't imagine using it as our sole math program. It's pretty awesome though.

I am notorious in my family for banging my left elbow. I don't know why, but I've banged it so many times that I've chipped off several pieces. Because of that it hurts more than when I bang my right elbow. And the pain lasts longer. It's just more sensitive now. One time, it hurt so bad I felt dizzy and nauseous for several hours. Sometimes it hurts just to rest it on a table if it's on a certain spot. I mentioned it to my doctor and they said there was nothing they could do about it. They said I could have surgery to remove the fragments, but they didn't recommend it because it wouldn't really help. It seems to me the fragments have somehow dissolved over several years anyway. So as long as you are able to move it freely and it doesn't hurt terribly, I would just wait and see. But FWIW, I usually wait and see.

I get it. CLE 4 is too long for my 3rd grader. I have him do the entire new part of the lesson, but I usually cross off every b, d, f of the review. I'm careful to make sure I'm only crossing off things he has down, so I make sure he is doing the problems I think he needs practice with, especially in the skill builder section. ETA: For those of you who don't know, much of CLE is review. There is usually about a one page lesson and 3 pages of mixed review. Many of the numbered problems have a series (a,b,c,d) of similar problems. Once DS has mastered a concept, I'm okay with him doing only a few (of each) everyday thereafter.

Yes and no. Competition motivates me to do better, but I don't like to see other people lose. So if someone is doing better than me (in a game, workout, etc) I push myself harder, but if they are behind me I slack off in order to let them catch up. I try to keep things even with whoever I am with.

Sorry, we are on a business trip/vacation and my phone was acting as GPS while we were out. And I'm trying to type coherently on my phone, so there's that. Yes, lol, spelling for sure. But that's it right now for my 1st grader. And lots of reading, of course. My 3rd grader is currently doing the same, but he will probably start LLATL orange next week. I had him start reading the first lit. book while we are away. Writing was the one thing I was really stressing about (especially because of the recent talk about 8fill's writing program, and stressing about which writing program to use is what I like to do while relaxing by the pool), but I was looking ahead at ELTL 3 and 4, and I am really excited about where it's going. 8fill's posts speak to me as well, but I'm already knee-deep in ELTL and I see no reason to switch. Anyway, I'm not sure how much I even answered your question. I would again recommend downloading the 233 page sample, if you haven't already, and read each of the introductions. And look at the literature lists. You'll get a much better idea if ELTL is even a good fit for you. I will say that it is easier to add to ELTL than LLATL, solely because there's less to pick and choose through.

I've used LLATL red and yellow and now ELTL 1 and part of 2. I love ELTL. But it's not meant to be an all-in-one so you can't really compare it to LLATL. It's more like a combo of FLL and WWE (which we've also used). And it's designed to use only 3x a week so you still have plenty of time for other LA. I use it 4-5 days a week and I'm actually still planning to add LLATL orange for my 3rd grader. We started level 1 in January with a kinder and 2nd grader and I plan to be in level 3 by spring with a 1st and 3rd grader (but my 1st grader thinks he's a 2nd grader and I can't really argue with him about that :) ). In level 2 a typical day includes a short grammar lesson, a poem, and a fable, a very short exercise, and copywork. About once a week there is a picture narration instead of a poem. Not hunter, but I'm personally looking forward to ds reading Boxcar Children. He just finished reading the prequel and he loved it. The lit may not be considered high quality literature, but it's not twaddle either. We use ELTL and even though that uses high quality literature I don't always like those selections either. We have skipped a book or 2 and still do most of the lessons and copywork. No big deal. Just quickly looking through the orange book it looks like you could skip the Book Studies if you really wanted to and still do the lessons. It doesn't look like the actual lessons use much of the books, other than copywork. If I can't get a book from the library, I'll just skip that book study. I still think there's enough in there to make it worth it. At least I'm hopeful that there is. :)

I know what you mean. That's how I feel about starting orange. There's something I really like about LLATL, but so far it hasn't been enough on its own.

No, you wouldn't be missing much. My ds enjoyed reading The White Stallion and The Courage of Sarah Noble, but even with those books we only did some of the link, mostly just comprehension questions and writing. We split each link (including reading) into 2 days, except Sarah Noble because we read that book for history (BF) so I followed that schedule. I absolutely think you could skip them (or not) and do another literature guide. Even though you didn't ask about spelling, but because Hunter mentioned it, I also *give you permission* to do something else for spelling. Heck, I even give you permission to do something else for cursive. I really don't think either of those things are the heart of LLATL yellow, so even if you skip/use something else you are still getting a benefit from using LLATL. Just my $0.02.
