  1. I just needed your help getting started, I guess! I think I'll merge these ideas into: laminated tags, tied on with a pretty ribbon... off to get started! Karen in SC
  2. We just revamped our bedroom closet, and everything looks so nice now! We put in those ClosetMaid shelves and rods, and dh is going to try to put down thin cedar paneling on top of the shelves so we don't get those lines on all our sweaters, which is a pet peeve of mine. So, now I just need some way to label all those nice shelves, so stuff doesn't get thrown just everywhere again. I have a label maker, but its peel-and-stick labels don't really fit well on those wire shelves. I'm sure someone more creative than me has solved this problem...??? Thanks for any ideas! Karen in SC
  3. I'm not familiar with Progesterone Cream, but do have occasional migraines (3-4 times a year) that always coincide with ovulation. Since it's not an every month thing, I don't know about using this regularly, even though I am 47 years old. Wonder what the chances are of this working when I first have a migraine coming on (my first sign is always blurred vision). My last one was Christmas eve eve, and it lasted 2 full days. Really messed up my plans for the holidays, but God knew I needed a break from cooking. That was my excuse, and all understood, thankfully. Anyway, can someone comment on their experience with the success rate for eliminating migraines, and specifically on whether it will work immediately on a migraine in progress? Karen in SC
  4. There probably are other symptoms I could list, but I'm trying not to go on a witchhunt and find things "wrong" with my sweetheart! She does seem to struggle with telephone conversations, in particular. Just is never quite sure how to put into words what she wants to on the spur of the moment, even if she's just talking with a good friend on the phone. We had her brother (who is adopted, so not a blood relative, if that matters) tested and counseled through some extreme separation anxiety and anger management issues last year, and he is so much better off because of it. So, I do think we'll get her tested one way or the other. Dh is out of town at the moment, but I'm anxious to talk with him about that. Amy G., where did you go to have your son evaluated? Are there things you are doing now to help him build his processing skills? The online test Pamela H. mentioned sounds interesting, but I'd like to have more info. What have you done as a result of the tests on your daughter? Are there simple things you have found to help her cope? As far as the driving is concerned, we have taken things very slowly. She is a cautious and good driver in most situations, and has been driving for well over a year now with us. She's taken her driving class (actually quite a while ago) and thinks she's ready to get her license, but this issue makes me more than a little hesitant. I let her drive me around over the holidays, and the couple of times when she has been in high traffic situations have led me to think there's something a little different going on here that maybe needs some extra help. Thanks again for your input. Karen in SC
  5. She has an extremely slow reaction time... I'm not sure how else to describe it. She is a straight-A student, with some perfectionist tendencies, and very eager to please us. In general, she's been just a model child. But now her slow reaction time is really coming to the forefront as she's learning to drive. She's put us in some very dangerous situations, and I'm trying to understand if there is something bigger behind her hesitating. A typical situation would be waiting at a stop sign before pulling out onto a busy highway. She waits until the traffic is clear, and then VERY SLOWLY pulls out. Because she doesn't immediately accelerate, cars are on her bumper very quickly. We've had cars honking their horns, etc. Background: We began homeschooling her back in the 3rd grade because she had this same tendency with doing math facts in her private school. The more pressure she felt to answer "3+4", the slower she became with her answer. At the time, it lead to feelings of incompetence and eventually a depression that effected much more than just her math class. We initially took her to a Christian counselor, but she really didn't identify any problems. Once we pulled her out of school and changed her environment, all was fine. She has kept pace with her peers, even in math, and (as I said) is nearly a straight-A student, though she does spend much more time on her school work than her brother. So, I am just wondering if there is something to be done about this situation. Truly, the more pressure she feels to 'perform', the slower she gets. I'm thinking maybe an anxiety disorder or something? Hoping someone could shed light on this for me, or point me to a way to help her cope. Thank you for any thoughts! Karen in SC
  6. Thank you for your ideas. She doesn't really show any other symptoms that would make me think allergies (no sinus, rash, usually never even complains of her tummy hurting until POW!). It's been a while since we've done the allergy testing thing. Are there any new easy ways to test for this, besides the needle pricks? I would just watch/restrict her diet, but this is not an every day thing and I think would be hard to track down. (Happened yesterday, then once the week before, then about 3 weeks ago, then about 5 months ago...) Thanks again for your help. We're planning a long (10-12+ hour) trip over Thanksgiving, and I need to look into options now.
  7. My dd has terrible carsickness, and we live 20 minutes from *everything* which spells TROUBLE. Other than moving her to the front seat, which is a problem because of an airbag, any other suggestions? BTW, this is throw-up all over everything kind of sickness, not just 'my tummy hurts'. She is mortified each time, and I really need to search for some good options. I've heard of some kind of wristbands, but don't know anything about them... anybody have experience with them, or ANY OTHER IDEAS? Thanks in advance! Karen in SC
  8. I decided on Dave Ramsey's course. For anyone interested, I also looked at a free course put out by the National Endowment for Financial Education, at hsfpp.nefe.org, but as I said, it is very secular and steers the student into a really greedy perspective on money. We are also working as a family through Randy Alcorn's EXCELLENT book, Money, Possessions and Eternity, which has a study guide in the back. Thanks again for all the help! Karen
  9. I've looked into one curriculum, but it seems very focused on greed and materialism. I'd like to find something with a biblical approach for my senior son. Thanks in advance! Karen
  10. Went through this with our now-teenagers, but that was soooo long ago. We have two (adopted) 4 and 4.5 year olds, and the girl (4) hasn't wet the bed for over a year. Our 4.5 yo was doing fine, but has back-slid and frequently wets the bed TWICE in one night! ARGH! Please remind me that this is okay, and will end. I appreciate any advice. We limit drinks after 7:30pm, and take him to the potty before we go to bed around 11pm (at which point he's frequently already wet the bed!). HELP!
  11. thank you, Katia, for pointing me to that website. That looks more helpful, and I'll do as you suggest and write the author. Karen
  12. I saw the other thread about these books, but wasn't able to bring up some of the pages on their website. Are these consumable workbooks? Textbooks with answers in a teacher's manual? My ds has been using Chalkdust, which he likes because he's not a reader, and these are videos. I'm not sure he'd be patient enough to work through a book, even one with humor, but I am curious about these. Any other thoughts?
  13. Is this appropriate for my 17ds? I'm not so concerned about violence as I am about sexual content. Are there racy parts of this book? Thanks very much!!!
  14. What curriculums are good? Or would we be better off going through a community college? This is for my soon-to-be-senior son. He's currently doing Chalkdust Pre-calculus, but they don't offer Statistics. Thanks!!!
