  1. What online programs/sites are you using? We've used StarFall for years.
  2. I work full time, ds7 is in public school. I do not have complete faith in the school system. I previously homeschooled and would like to find something to use for at home to reinforce or help ds7. He's in first grade, reading level 3-4 and should be at level g or 200-400L. Way behind. Suggestions? I'm looking at Dancing Bears which I saw was a recommendation on another thread.
  3. I see some familiar names, hello! My youngest, ds7 has been diagnosed with dyslexia, ADHD and speech disorder. I am not homeschooling but he need additional help. I'm looking to pick the hive's mind for a orton gillingham based phonics program that I can do at home with him - hopefully with games included and not completely electronic. And it doesn't cost an arm and a leg- an arm is okay but I'd like to keep the leg... :tongue_smilie: Do the electronic phonic programs work? I'm skeptic. Anywho- he is in first grade but reading at a level 3, he should be at level G (Scholastic leveling) or GRA level 12, Lexile 200-400L. Help! Jessica
  4. ((((HUG)))) I started to write but really, it is painful and you have every right to feel how you feel, it's still raw right now. ((((HUG AGAIN)))) And bless your dh for being such a good man!
  5. Lol, yes but how to write it in an organized and interesting way...
  6. I just got the Nook Color b/c I didn't really like the Nook physical setup. I like the touch screen of the Nook Color. Out of all the reviews I read (including the ones here, thank you ladies!) - the Nook was the most versatile for the price. THere is an article by the Chicago Sun Times that really goes into the features of the Nook. You can read about the Kindle vs. Nook etc at their respective websites but they are slanted and biased. http://www.suntimes.com/lifestyles/2781636-452/nook-color-book-kindle-device.html I love the LendMe feature of the Nook, the fact I can go see a live person to show me how to do something, and it's been super easy to find books to read for free. BooksforNooks.com is a lending community, our library has ebooks. I just didn't like Kindle, those buttons would get dirt in them too easily for my tastes. I preferred to have a back-lit screen to adjust when I want instead of having an external light source, etc...
  7. My two loved Yoga for Kids and Tae Bo Kicks for Kids when they were younger. I agree with meds if it's possible, there's nothing like having adventures outside. I couldn't imagine keeping a young boy inside all day.
  8. I want to attempt to write a book and I need a little help. Ideally, I'd like to find a resource to help me plan the book regarding storyline, plot, characters. Does anyone know of a good book (or website) to put my little plan into motion? I was searching at Google, B&N and Amazon and (LIGHTBULB), I figured I would ask the most talented, educated, resourceful group of women I know...
  9. We used ours as a well to document our journey so it became a part of our time. The weekly report put the idea in my dd's head that her work would be put on the blog and that made her work a little harder. I think our blog really inspired her art, I know keeping a blog helped me stay accountable. It was a way to celebrate the kids' work and organize my thoughts.
  10. Guilty, sort of. Hubby complains that I just sit the new roll on the empty roll. "Why? Why don't you just slide the old roll off and put the new one on?" He asks me ALL the time. It's my annoying thing, hey- he has his too. The kids however DO put a new roll on, I'm the only culprit.
  11. :grouphug: Prayers for the family and all the lives she touched...I'm sorry for your loss.
  12. Awww, you're so sweet. I love your blog design and your kids are very animated!
  13. If apple sends a system update and you update your jailbroken phone, it will fry your phone. Techie hubby told me to tell you.
  14. If you want educational videos, this is WELL worth the subscription and you'll have enrichments for everything. I used it when I was in GA, actually got it free through a public education grant, I don't know if that still exists now. I'm sure someone here knows more. https://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/index.php?option=com_hsbc_epp_order&Itemid=1036
  15. When's the last time a blog roll was done here? Could you link me to the latest or can we do another? My dd10 used to love see your blogs and she wants to do it again, she saw me reading a few and wants to see more...
  16. It's our uncreative homeschool name, I didn't have any creative juices flowing when I needed to name our homeschool but I'm still happy with the choice. Sometimes it is best to stay short and simple. ;)
  17. Using BookMooch or any other book swap is a great resource for saving money, you just have to give up books to get books. I scoured Goodwill(s) for books and found plenty, it's amazing what books people will give away without thought. I would look at 4 different locations and usually find the exact titles I was looking for. You have to KNOW your book list for LG UG D and R in order to do this effectively and be able to store the books. Check with homeschool groups in your area for swap/sale notices, not always the cheapest route but better than paying for shipping and you're helping another family while helping yours. Look on cheaper book sale sites like BookCloseouts.com for titles too.
  18. a list of all lists http://www.sldirectory.com/libsf/booksf/mystery/topic.html I try to follow what the book club at my local library is reading if I'm in a mystery mood. That's an idea! Is there a book club in her area, have her check her local library.
