  1. I realize the typical order of high school science is chemistry and then physics because this also goes along with the math sequence. Is there any other reason to do them in this order? My dd wants to do physics next year and do chemistry later. She is finishing algebra 2 now and will move into advanced math with Saxon in the fall. She understands how to use a graphing calculator and the functions for it. so what says the hive...let her do physics or make her do chemistry next? We use Apologia. Lynda
  2. I would be interested in this. More of a high school level. It would be nice if it was set up say in 4 quarters, and then each quarter could relate to a specific topic earth science/ geology, biology, chemistry/human anatomy etc. That way if you wanted to use it over a year one could. Or one could use a particular section over the summer before or after doing a Christian science course or use it simultaneously. Lynda
  3. Thanks for all the links to threads and reviews. My mother in law is fluent in Spanish and will speak to my dd in the language if I ask her too. We just have not introduced the language to her, so much due to her speech issues as a young child. It was clearly more important for her to master speaking one language, English, than two. We are at the point now that she can learn both. My eldest dd is very good at Spanish; she understands more than she can speak. I am not really concerned with the grammar aspects of the language that will come. With me working with her in Latin, you can apply the knowledge learned in Latin to Spanish. I am more looking for training her ear, and speech patterns. As she learns more vocabulary, that will naturally build into sentences etc....just like a young child learning their native language. Now off to look at discovery streaming and prices. Also to look at the other programs recommended. Please keep the suggestions coming because it may be that I combine several resources. Thanks so much, Lynda
  4. do you have a link for elementary Spanish? When I tried to google it a ton of things came up. Honestly that may sound perfect, I really want something without a ton of pressure that would be easy for her to do on her own. So that she feels Mommy is listening to her needs and what she wants to learn. Lynda
  5. My dd whom will be in 3 grade next year wants to learn Spanish. I would love to find a computer program similar to Rosetta Stone that she can just do on her own. I don't want to teach Spanish because we will be starting Latin and that is truly more of my focus and where I want to spend my time and energy teaching. I do see the value in letter her learn Spanish and doing it on her own. Does anyone know of a program that would be like Rosetta Stone just not so expensive that a 3 grader could do? Thanks, Lynda
  6. Ok, I'll have to admit that you struck my curiosity and I looked up the piercing. All I can say is ouch! and EWWWWW!!!!! I am so sorry that your kids had to see that. Lynda
  7. i purchase a 3 inch 3 ring binder for each child for the school year. I put dividers in it for each subject. As the child completes the work, we put it in the binder. When the binder gets full, I do through it and purge what is not necessary to keep. I make sure to save something from each subject. The binders fit nicely on a shelf. Now, I only have 2dc so I might choose another method if I had more. My kids love going back and looking at there early elementary work.:001_smile: Lynda
  8. I would love this!!! I need this. Google calendar that I can sink with my phone, dh's phone, dd's phone and the home computer has been a lifesaver!!! Oh' the things that I could do with a tracker app!!! Lynda
  9. Got it figured out. What you have from MODG is the daily breakdown of the Latin course. It is a great syllabus. What you need is MODG Latin I, II, and III answer key for selected exercises from the first and second year latin This includes answer keys to all the exercises not in the original Loyola University Press Key. here is a link to the key http://www.adoremusbooks.com/motherofdivinegracehenlelatinseriessupplementalanswerkey.aspx I use the MODG syllabus, white original answer key from Loyola, and the MODG answer key. Lynda
  10. we are finishing the henle book 2 right now. Which MODG Latin key do you have? Between the original henle key and the MODG, we are fine. I have not run into any exercises without answers using both keys. I am no Latin scholar at all. Or what lessons do you need answers too? Maybe I can help with those sections. :001_smile: Lyn
  11. I think that you could get away with just purchasing an additional set of phonogram cards not all of the cards to go with each level. lyn
  12. I found the sheldermine books. Has anyone done these? How would they work? Lynda
  13. Thanks I will look at that curriculum. Is there any other recommendations for a Latin reading method?? Lynda
  14. My dd is finishing Henle Latin II book. I am trying to decided where to take her next.....Not so sure if I want to continue with the Henle series or move into a reading based series. Any recommendations??? :bigear: Lynda
  15. Yes it does suck......and it makes one feel so helpless. If it helps I am right there with you. I am caring for my grandmother, we figured that her symptoms started about 10 years ago, getting worse 6 years ago and declining from there. It is hard but hang in there. :grouphug: lynda
  16. I would call back to the Dr office and speak with the DR not the nurse. I would use what ever you can to get him to write the note. I would explain the needing time to adjust to pregnancy, the feeling awkward in class etc. Even if these are not issues I would use them and whatever else you can think of .....to get him to write the note. I would explain about with the note she could finish school at home etc. It would be far better for her and the baby if she were to get a high school diploma. lynda
  17. What about getting a one of the cheaper laptops --the little net books. They usually have a camera built into them etc. Then if the computer goes out at home you can use that. If the electricity or the internet goes out at home ---you can take it to the local Starbucks or someplace like that that has free wifi. Lynda
  18. I just had my dd look up her lab experiment write ups and this is what she personally saw with her experiment under the microscope. In 2.2 sprillium bacteria, dead alge, and some sort of small dot thing that she could not identify. In 3.1 in the rice jar you are supposed to see bacillius bacteria, sprillium bacteria, and amoeba. Lynda
  19. I have my dd write down all the vocabulary as she goes through the chapter, I don't have her do the vocab questions in the end study guide. I do have her do the study guide at the end of the module. I have found that it can be done in two days, one day for all the questions and one day for the vocabulary appendix. I have found that if she does this good from memory that no studying is needed and she passes the tests easily. If she misses a lot then we go back and correct and make sure understanding is present before doing the tests. These study guide are like study sheets for the test. Lynda
  20. Do you have any high school level history spines that you would recommend? We are starting 9 grade next year and going back into American History, I have not used the Carroll books prior and that was my plan to use as a spine. Now I am having second thoughts.....just like I would not use a BJU textbook for high school history due to the bias I don't want to give her the Catholic version of that either. humm.....off to google.:001_huh: Lynda
  21. It means that if a post high school person took the test that they would score the same thing. It does not mean that she should skip a grade or by any means has the same knowledge as a 19 year old. I would caution against skipping a grade. I mean if she knows the material and can test through --then yes you can move ahead in certain subjects. By there is a ton of other things that one needs to learn and grasp before moving on in the world. You also have to consider are you prepared to let her go to college early. By that are you prepared to put her into certain social situations that she may not be ready for --ie with older boys etc. Lynda
  22. This is what I thought. I felt that there were huge differences between the 1 grade horizons and 1 grade Saxon...but thought maybe I was missing something since people here were saying that they were the same. we are using both right now for my youngest dd and I am trying to narrow it down to one program. It is too much work to combine them both and still have time for the other kids. There are parts of both horizons and saxon that I like and dislike.:glare: Lynda
