  1. Hi, I am looking to use the Science Explorers series in the Fall with my daughter. I was wondering if someone in tell me if there is any huge differences between the 2 huge book for the Life and Earth Science and the the little books that deal with the Life and Earth science? I am able to borrow the big bind up Earth science and Life science books from the library. But when I was comparing the little book chapters to the ones and the big bind up books, it looks like a chapter here and there are missing and less pages in the chapters. Example from the Environmental Science little book- there are 5 units in the little book and in the Life Science big book, there are only 3 chapters. Also in the Animals little book there are 214 pages but in the big Life science- with only the same chapters, there are only 170 pages. Can any explain or let me know, if the big books are really missing important or really good information that is in the little books? I hate to be missing important or really good information, just to save a little bit of money. If not, I would like to borrow th big books from the library and just buy the Guided reading and Study workbooks. Thank you for your help, Karen
  2. Hi, My daughter just finished MUS Zeta right before summer started and then I looked at MUS Pre-Algebra. I didn't think it had enough material in it. I looked at the MUS Algebra and it looked like the rest of the PreAlgebra is in that book, so we switched. We bought Chalkdust Basic College Math (Pongo's cheaper way- non Chalkdust) for everything about $35 with shipping. I got the Textbook, six dvds, and student solution Manual. I like the way it looks and it covers all the basic Math ( just to review to make sure she has everything down) and at the end of the book it covers the PreAlgebra portion. I heard and what I saw between both books ( I have both Basic College Math and the PreAlgebra book), the PreAlgebra book does cover all the Basic Math but at a faster pace. The whole number section, it looks like they do the basic Math and then they do PreAlgebra with whole numbers. And the next section is fractions, they do the basic Math and then then PreAlgebra with fractions, and so on. So we are doing the Basic College Math first and depending on how she does, we will either do the PreAlgebra book ( which I bought cheap for everything, thanks to Pongo) or try the Algebra book. My daughter is going into 5th this year, so we are not any rush to hit the Algebra book to early. But I heard you can go straight into the Algebra book from Basic College Math book. I hope this helps :) Karen
  3. Hi, I just sent an email to sign up my son and daughter for the writing course. Thank you so much. Karen
  4. I would love to get a copy of it too. Thank you, Karen :)
  5. Thanks, That sounds so easy to use. I thought that was all it was saying to do but I thought I was missing something because it seems too easy. Karen
  6. Hi, I wanted to see if anyone has used Spelling Plus and Dictation book. Did it help your child learn how to spell? I looked through the books and having a hard time figuring out the best way to use the book. If anyone has used it, can you please tell me how you used the book and how the program is going for you and your family? Also, was it helpful to get the Spelling Plus workbook? Thank you, Karen
  7. Thank you for your help. I will use the Lial Basic Math first. And see how she does with it. I read from alot of forums that alot of younger student might not have a hard time with PreAlgebra but when they get to Algebra they have a harder time with it. Their thinking skills might not be ready for abstract thinking needed for Algebra. Would it be best to go from: Lial Basic College Math to Lial PreAlgebra and then to Lial Introductory Algebra? or just go from Basic College Math to Introductory Algebra and do the book slowly. When I bought the Lial Introductory Algebra, I got the DVT, Math Lab cd and password to use for one year to use for help, if she needed it. If anyone has used Lial, do you find their books past Algebra I to have clear instructions or would you switch to something else for Geometry and Algebra II? Thanks, Karen
  8. Hi Christine, We have Lial's Basic College Math at home, we could use. Do you think it would be better to go from Lial BCM and then go into Chalkdust PreAlgebra? We have both because I wanted to compare them side by side and I got them pretty cheap. They almost look idential, that is why I wanted to make sure that I am using the right book first. Thank you for your help. Also Thank you Pongo for your help, too. Karen
  9. Hi, I had a question. My daughter, who is going into the 5th grade just finished Math U See Zeta in the Spring. I was looking at a couple of PreAlgebra courses for her for the Fall. She is very good at Math, she doesn't have any trouble picking up new Math concepts. I was wondering which program would be better for a young PreAlgebra student. I showed her both Lial's BCM and Chalkdust PreAlgebra. She seems to like them both and they both seem to cover the same concepts but in a different order. I like her to stay in the same program for rest of her Math classes. Also, does Lial's BCM and PreAlgebra cover the same topics but PreAlgebra book cover them at a faster pace or do they cover a little bit different topics? I wasn't sure if it would be best to do BCM and then PreAlgebra book and then go into Introductory Algebra or just skip PreAlgebra and go straight into the Algebra book. Which book covers Math topics in the Algebra and beyond better, Chalkdust or Lial? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Karen
  10. I got the program in the late Spring and son ,who is dyslexic, is using the program. We are using both the workbook and the computer program. He loves it. Then we add on other books that deals with the sounds he is learning to keep practicing the sounds and not just using one book over again. He seems to be learning alot from the program.
  11. My kids love Math U See. We have used the Program from Gamma through Zeta. My daughter just finished Zeta but my son will be doing it in the Fall. My daughter who is going into PreAlgebra will be switching to either Chalkdust or Lial. I want her to get use to using a regular textbook, that is the only reason we are switching. I am not sure about what my son will be using after Zeta because he has a harder time with Math than she does. Karen
  12. We love MAth U See. My kids can go as fast or a slow as they want or need. My daughter was very good at Math so she was able to go through the program quicker than my son is. When I knew they had the concepts down they moved on to the next lesson. Karen
  13. We looked at buying it for this year. We are doing Story of the World Ancient times and Medieval and I saw a couple of the books deal with those time peiods so I thought we would try them out. They look like fun. Karen

  15. Hi, We used K12 for one year. They are a little expensive so we just it for Math and English and then we made our curriculum for Science and History. But I know some people buy one or the other for half of the year and then switched. They liked the program but just couldn't on affording it for elementary school. Karen
