  1. There are now over 125 Beginning readers in Latin for children, on the Tar Heel reader site. This resource continues to grow, and will be crucially important to parents who wish to teach young children Latin - what is needed, is an enormous amount of input - lots and lots of reading. Prior to the Tar Heel Site being colonised for this purpose, these books simply did not exist. It was hard to find enough reading material at the right level - quite simply, Latin educators have been behind the curve for a few centuries when it comes to providing masses of material to develop and consolidate language skills. Now we have over 125 magnificent Latin Readers. If you educate children in Latin, please publicise this site as widely as you can. It is amazing.
  2. Hello Drew, It is I.

    Thanks for saying hello.

  3. Yes, the podcast course is all oral, including the vocabulary learning resources - though they are quite hard going at first, with perseverance you will acquire a huge vocabulary from them. You can use the course without ever needing to open a book.
  4. Not sure if this post breaks list rules - as Adler, who wrote this textbook, has been dead for over 150 years........The Latinum Podcast is a free online Latin audio course, which essentially simply has put this textbook into audio - designed for home school and distance learning - Latinum first went online in early 2007, and since them, has clocked up over 2.5 million audio file downloads, with thousands of regular users using it to learn Latin across the globe. Latinum is based around George Adler's "A Practical Grammar of the Latin Language for Speaking and Writing Latin", which is available as a free pdf, or as a softcover reprint. The course also offers a wide array of subsidiary materials in addition to the Latinum course materials - audio of Latin texts, material to help learn how to recite Latin poetry, a huge vocabulary learning section, and a selection of easy stories read in simple Latin, etc. Users have reported that this course is helping them get to grips with Latin very rapidly. The course treats Latin as though it were music, each gradual step in the progression is achieved by playing the linguistic equivalent of musical scales, with hundreds of questions and their answers in Latin. The entire course uses this question-answer format. The course also has extensive written materials to accompany the audio course, in addition to the textbook. http://latinum.mypodcast.com
  5. Latinum can also be used independently: http://latinum.mypodcast.com It is an audio course with a textbook.
  6. There is Latinum - it is totally secular, and will allow him to progress to a very high level, in a series of carefully gradated steps. There is a textbook, which is also available in audio. The audio really helps speed up the course, and makes the textbook easier to deal with. http://latinum.mypodcast.com Read the FAQ pages first, which explain a bit about how the course works. Thousands of episodes are downloaded every day - this system works well, and it is essentially free, as well.
  7. I would get them to listen to as much Latin as possible, and to interact with it as a language......you might find the extensive audio resources on Latinum are useful http://latinum.mypodcast.com This will activate their grammatical knowledge, and they should then make rapid progress. I would continue to use the same textbook as you are using now for their grammar, and only listen to the part b and c sections of the Adler lessons, which have no grammar, only the linguistic equivalent of playing musical scales, but with sentences instead. They might also enjoy the fabulae faciles.
  8. You might find a good grammar book will work really well, supplemented by the extensive audio course from Adler's "A Practical grammar of the Latin language for Speaking and Writing Latin", which has been serialised in audio. Thousands of people are using this online course to learn Latin, and are reporting it is working very well. http://latinum.mypodcast.com
  9. You could start listening to the Adler course with him - it is entirely audio. As he is only 7, I would only use parts b and c...this is an immersion course, and he might ( or might not) find it quite entertaining. The course is secular. http://latinum.mypodcast.com
