  1. I'll probably be completely chewed out for saying this but it seems like prosecuting this woman is only going to keep more kids in situations like this. Parents who need help are going to be afraid to ask for it for fear of being prosecuted. Prosecution isn't going to change her mind about anything. She already recognized that her parenting was ineffectual and she needed help. Please note that I would not be saying this if it were a clear case of child abuse. This just seems very borderline to me. It's obviously harsh and crappy parenting but I'm not convinced it's in the same category as hitting, starving, sexual abuse, etc.
  2. I agree with Angela. I have my daughter work through every problem, even if it takes us two days to get through the lesson. Once we started on the second H4 workbook, the lessons were pretty simple and she was able to do 2 lessons a day (her idea, not mine) and has caught up. There are fewer division problems per lesson in the second book. HTH
  3. I don't have my AG with me so I can't check, but I thought they transitioned to writing a narration from the outline. I think they give the student the completed outline to use for writing the first few narrations. If I remember correctly, the instructions are on the student outline. I'm not sure if it is actually mentioned in the AG. HTH Jen
  4. :bigear: I'm planning to do the same thing. I am curious to hear what others have to say.
  5. :iagree: We had the same issues with Junie B. My daughter is going through the Sonlight 2 Readers and enjoying them. A lot of them are leveled readers.
  6. Mine was spaghetti strap, but there weren't many out there at the time. Married in 1996.
  7. Like most of the others, I just say "We homeschool". But when asked about socialization I politely inform them that I have a MA in Sociology and "Yes, it was a huge reason we chose to homeschool". ;) They usually don't have much to say after that.
  8. Me too!!! I am doing SOTW 4 with my 4th grader and would LOVE to see how you did it last year.
  9. :iagree: I love Sonlight's reader selections.
  10. Fantastic! I am adding it to my shopping list. Thank you!
  11. I LOVE the look of this planner, but haven't purchased it. I'm curious about what others think too. :bigear:
  12. Does it really exist? Where can I get some? I have torn so many maps, posters, etc. by using permanent double-sided tape!
  13. I believe the black paper clips are called binder clips. I just picked up a tub of them at Office Depot. They are super colorful and they say "Crap" on them. It's not a word I generally throw around, but it was so appropriate for what I was using them for.
