  1. I've just finished read Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and have requested the others from the library.

Are the other books as good as the first?

I can't wait to see what happens to Jamie. I wouldn't mind tending to his wounds. :D Of cause I want to know what happens to Claire as well, but she's not as dreamy as Jamie.

Being English, I have encountered a few Scots who have called me a Sassenach, but never in an endearing way.

Now I just have to wait as patiently as possible for the books to arrive at the library. :toetap05:

  2. With regards to pay, when my hubby gets home I'll ask him what the rate is.

When my dh was over the road, he was gone 3 weeks, home for 2 or 3 days then gone again for 3 weeks.

It's been a while since dh was driving over the road, but the expenses that I can remember are:

    1) Food

    2) Showers at truck stops

    3) Phone calls, cell or pay phone

    4) Laundry, or would you rather do 3 weeks worth in the short time he is home.

    5) Entertainment - Beer, internet access, TV.

Has your hubby ever been an over the road truck driver? Does he have a class A?

What are some of the companies that you are looking at? I'll get hubby to tell me if they are goods ones to work for.

Let me tell you, being the wife of an over the road truck driver is HARD! If you can deal with him being gone for 3 or 4 weeks at a stretch and no breaks from the kids, then go for it, other wise, don't. It will put a big strain and stress on both of you. He will want to do nothing but rest when he gets home. Ask me how I know.

  3. 3. Do you live in tepees?

No, the Wampanoag have never lived in that type of housing. One of the many stereotypes is that all Native People lived in tepees but the truth is we built houses that were suited to how we lived. Some Native People in the West lived in teepees; they moved around the Plains as they hunted buffalo.Teepees made sense for their way of life.

The Wampanoag made “wetus†(houses) that were dome shaped and covered with bark or cattail reeds. These houses were suited for the climate and our lives here in the Northeast.

I copied that from this website

This is a picture of a wetus.

  4. I have an 8 yo boy, who loves to read and reads at quite a high level. He does not really like Story of the World or Our Island Story.

We have been leaning toward Ambleside/Old Fashioned Education.

Is it OK at this age for him to just read historical fiction, with the occasional look in an encyclopedia?

I don't want to force him into learning history with a book that he does not like. There is always time before he grows up to learn history.
