  1. When I was in the Navy (all my good stories start with those words), we used to buy Boone's Farm stuff from K-Mart because that was the only alcoholic beverages we could obtain at 4:00am on a Sunday morning in Charleston,SC.
  2. You are looking at this all wrong. Alcohol abuse would be spewing your margarita all over your screen. Refilling a mostly-empty glass is just good tequila management. Also, it keeps you from killing stupid people. Completely rational and reasonable.
  3. No! You are being a good steward of your finances! You are using the most cost-effective means to obtain your goals. I should have gone to Law school. Or I should have been a politician.
  4. Ugh! If it was blended we could just classify it as a grown-up slushy. On the rocks? Well, the ubiquitous "they" recommend that we ingest more greens. Margaritas on the rocks are green. Therefore, you are ingesting a health food. Does that work?
  5. Is it blended or on the rocks? This affects my judgement. :p
  6. Oh Honey! First of all, I'm so sorry for the loss of your dad. Secondly, I'm sorry your mil decided to cause drama while you were having a baby. Finally, I give you hugs and prayers while dealing with the impending loss of your grandma. Your letter is absolutely perfect. Your honest heart is quite evident. I say this as someone who in 12 hours will drive 16 hours to visit her dying daddy. I am barely functioning now while dealing with my dad's illness. I cannot imagine functioning in any sort of manor after he leaves this world. You really have said and done enough. Really. If your mil and bil cannot understand the tremendous amount of stress you are currently experiencing, they do not deserve to be in such a kind-hearted person's life. Big, big hugs to you.
  7. As a parent, my #1 responsibility is to my children. It is my job to keep them safe. I really could not care less about damaging another person's psyche if that person could potentially harm my children. It's not my job to fix or coddle addicts. It's my job to protect my children. Period.
  8. Ah yes, Jean. I think that is a chapter in SOTW. "The Great Bavarian Migration to the Philipines." Perhaps SOTW volume 3 chapter 27. Lol.
  9. Perfect for me! In order, I'm French (Cajun), Irish, German (heard that one), and English (because of dh's last name.
  10. Girl with a CJ degree here. Lawyer up. The CJ system is not all that sympathetic to people with mental illnesses. Your bil absolutely need an advocate. Yesterday.
  11. I'm going to quote you again because my daddy, who is dying right now and is just on my Sudafed-high mind, has often been mistaken for Middle Eastern due to his dark olive skin and black-haired beard. I hate hate! (Does that make me a hater hater?) Looks can be deceiving. I studied phrenology while getting my degree. That's bogus science. Honestly? We cannot look at a human and determine their inherent "evilness". Sure, we can pretend to see their "evil eyes", but that's a bunch of illogical crap. Honey, Muslims are not inherently evil. Gosh, as a Christian, I wish I was as devoted as many Muslims out there.
  12. I have very thick stands, and about a trillion of those thick strands on my head. Bobby pins are completely useless to me. Feeling your pain here.
  13. Ugh! You guys are making me cry! I think if I see a nice, sweet Muslim lady irl I will be that freaky person that just goes up to them and hugs them. So let me apologize to all the Muslim ladies who get randomly hugged by some weird, short, busty white girl.
  14. You don't have to apologize either! Idiots come in every shape, size, color, religious denomination, creed, sexual orientation, gender, political preference, etc.. YOU are NOT to blame for these attacks. More hugs for you.
  15. Sweetie, big hugs. No apology needed. No general Muslim hate will ever come from this Christian household. Stupid radical hate (from all religions or non-beliefs), yes. General Muslim hate? Nope. I wish I could hug you right now and tell you that not all Christians hate all Muslims, but I'm sure you understand the idea.
  16. We recently purchased a new Windows 8 laptop. I had been using my iPad for most of my internet browsing. When my dd12 got a Mac, I keep trying to touch the screen to move things. I thought I would prefer a touchscreen laptop, but like you, I had a hard time justifying the extra $ for something so new. We ended up getting this one (not at that price!) and we love it. I really haven't had a problem navigating without a touchscreen.
  17. Just wanted to echo Margaret's comments about Navy Nuclear Power School. Absolutely excellent. You can get out of the Navy after 6 years with employers lined-up to hire you. The ASVAB really isn't hard at all. I think I was still intoxicated from the night before when I took it and made a 93. I will say you want to score as high as possible to qualify for the better jobs in whatever branch you enter. If your son is a good test-taker, he will be fine. I really don't think you have to put your son in ps if he wants to go into the military. I knew a few homeschoolers in the Navy Nuke program. They did just fine.
  18. I just talked to my mom this morning. The ER doctors think he has congestive heart failure. This is common with his IPF. He's very pale this morning, but feels good enough to make inappropriate jokes. He's happy he's pale because he finally looks white. Bless his inappropriate heart. So, he's in good spirits despite being stuck in the hospital with a crappy TV. Thanks again for the prayers/good thoughts!
  19. We have enough seats for our family of five. We kinda have a sectional (two regular seats plus a chaise) and a love seat. It works, but I would prefer a regular 3-seat couch and two comfy chairs.
  20. Guys, I really appreciate the prayers/love/good thoughts you are sending his way! He may be a crappy dad, but he is a hilarious person. He was so upset that he missed the new Duck Dynasty episode. For real. An ambulance ride to the hospital unnerved him, but missing the new Duck Dynasty episode? Unacceptable. Sometimes you just have to laugh, right?
  21. Well bless their little hearts!!! Says the Christian gal who takes God's commandments to "Love The Lord your God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself" seriously.
  22. My dad was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in January. He cannot breathe without O2 supplementation. Tonight he was transported via ambulance because he passed out, completely stopped breathing, and lost consciousness. Poor guy cannot accept his limitations and tried to do too much today. This is a terminal illness with no cure other than a lung transplant. If you feel inclined, would you spare a prayer or good thought for my dad? He wasn't the best dad, but he's the only dad I have. Thanks guys!
  23. FUN!!!!! We just drove from the Great Plains to Arizona last September. We had a 12yo, 9yo, and 5yo. We pulled our cheap little pop-up camper the whole way. We stopped at Mesa Verde National Park, the Grand Canyon (for a few days), Petrified Forest National Park, and Albuquerque (I have no idea if I spelled that correctly). We had so much fun as a family. The whole trip took 11 days. We stopped at KOA campgrounds along the way. The kids learned so much more than they would have from any text or curriculum. I say go for it!
