  1. We always leave ours closed when not in use. We have a kitty that loves to poop in the bathtub.
  2. My husband just had one recently and he went to the doctor for it. The doctor just told him to roll his foot around on a frozen water bottle for 10 minutes several times a day, which I thought was strange. He also used over-the-counter wart remover along with that. It's been a few weeks and it's practically gone. He caught it pretty early, though, so that may have had something to do with his success.
  3. For 3rd grade, we'll be using: Singapore 3A and 3B MCT Island AAS finishing RSO Earth and Space and starting NOEO Chemistry La Clase Divertida Levels 1 and 2 Dance Mat Typing We're doing American History using History of US and some projects, books, and History Pockets added in. She'll also be doing swimming and piano lessons.
  4. I didn't use them for 1A or 1B for the first time around, but this time I'm doing pretty much everything the HIG suggests. When we got to 3A I just felt dd8 had some gaps that could have been prevented.
  5. We recently started incorporating activities from About Teaching Mathematics by Marilyn Burns. We are all very happy with it and I only wish I would have found it sooner. This morning the kids made their own Metric Length Books and we'll be filling them with all sorts of activities. I like that it's not a whole curriculum so I don't feel pressured to do all of it.
  6. Mine's up! The last three days we've been visited by a little baby possum. She's not afraid of us at all and is sooo cute!!
  7. Hilarious!!! I have one from today. Both my girls go to speech at the local public school. They were playing bingo when the 5yo farted really loudly. She then stands up, points to her butt and says, "That was a bingo for sure!!"
  8. There are the same number of syllables as vowel sounds, but that's not always the same as the number of vowels. The word 'found' has two vowels but only one vowel sound, so one syllable.
  9. Mine's up. We took yesterday off and spent the day outdoors.
  10. I've been using Singapore with my oldest for 3 years and just started 1A with my 5 year-old. I think it's a very solid program and love how they teach mental math. The only thing I didn't like about it was the number of different books there were and the constant flipping back and forth between them. We use all the books except the extra practice, so that's 5 books per child, plus the HIG's. With the new levels we just got, I had the binding cut off all the books, arranged the pages how I wanted them, and then got them spiral bound. So now each child has a workbook and I have the HIG's. Now there's nothing I don't love about SM. It's not too teacher intensive. I do work with each child almost every day and then they work independently on the workbook pages, word problems and tests. I do all the suggested activities and it's still not too bad. My girls both love it.
  11. Mine's up! I'm looking forward to reading everyone's reports tomorrow.
  12. I've never seen Great States, but we have the Scrambled States game and LOVE it. That's usually the game my girls choose first.
  13. What a horrible feeling that is! When my girls were 3 and 5 and we had just moved to a new house, they woke up really early one morning, packed up their sleeping bags and stuffed animals and dragged them all to the edge of the woods at the end of the cul-de-sac. DH and I woke up to a man (an amazing neighbor) knocking at the front door with both girls at his side. They were planning on exploring the woods and going across the stream to Africa, they told me later. Terrifying. We put a deadbolt on the door that afternoon.
  14. Singapore 1B and RightStart B AAS finish Phonics Pathways SOTW R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey (finish Earth and start Chemistry) ETC 3 La Clase Divertida
  15. Mine's from yesterday, on my baby's first birthday!:)
  16. I just got Challenging Word Problems 1 and 3 in the mail and have skimmed through them. They look pretty much the same as the old ones.
  17. Trumpet of the Swan Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh The Wizard of Oz The Whipping Boy The Magician's Nephew The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe The Hobbit Charlotte's Web James and the Giant Peach The Catwings books
  18. We usually spend about 15-20 minutes on a lesson. We almost always do the optional activity though.
  19. My dd had trouble with that at first too. What I did was move the middle object slightly above the others so that she could see that it was two on either side and one in the middle. It took a few weeks of doing that before she was able to tell with objects just in a group or a straight line.
