  1. We only lasted about 4 months with Texas K12 academy. I could not stand the amount of prep work that was involved for the TAAS test. My dd was in 5th when we tried this. She had to spend 15-20 minutes a day on their online TAAS test site then, do a workbook that was to help taking standardized tests, PLUS driving once a month over an hour away for practice taas tests or for the actual test. My daughter did enjoy when she went online with the teacher and class once a week because she got to use the microphone to talk over the computer. But that was about all she liked. She was also doing so much work!! It was amazing. She would start at 8, take a break for lunch, do more school, go to dance, have dinner and then still do homework!! I think I would love to do K12 with out the virtual academy. If we could have slowed down and did it at my daughter's own pace, it would have been a lot better. HTH, Lori
  2. No planner here in Texas either....I ordered mine May 30th...

  4. We did Letteroftheweek.com when my littlest was learning. I joined their yahoo group and a wonderful mom on there had put together everything you would need for each letter. Worksheets, activities, coloring pages...It was awesome. We really enjoyed it.
  5. Supposedly they were shipped Tuesday. That is what Rebecca told me in the email I finally got from her on Wednesday. If that was true we should have received them by now. The communication really needs to improve with this company. Hopefully, it will be here on Monday.
  6. We just now got our kids on state insurance after 3 years not qualifying(the raised the income limit). We couldn't afford private insurance but made to much for any government help. Last year alone my middle son broke 2 bones we had to pay out of pocket for but it was still cheaper than signing up for private health care for all of us!! We are blessed with very healthy kids and Dh and I also never get sick. Dh's work pays only for his health care(which in 10 years of having has NEVER used it). It would be almost $600 a paycheck to put us all on his work insurance. So, I go with out. Only thing I really wish we all had now was some dental insurance! None of us have this and I really need to go to the dentist!!:)
  7. I finally got an email back from the company. After 3 emails and a phone call. They say they got them planners in on Monday and shipped them Tuesday. So, they should be coming any day now!!!:) Lori
  8. I am going to try Level 2 Monday. I previewed it yesterday to see if I thought I could handle it. I'm not to sure about those walking push ups but I am going to give it a shot!:)
  9. I got up at 6 to do mine today and that was hard but I did it. We had a busy afternoon today and I knew I wouldn't do it when I got home.
  10. I love my husband's name. Harper. I have yet to meet another. :)
  11. I actually started back up today. I seem to make it a week and then stop for a week! I also ran/walked a mile on the treadmill.
  12. No advice but just wanted to say that my dh went to Philmont when he was in scouts. He still talks about it to this day!:) Your son is going to have a great time!:)
  13. I did my day 3 this morning. It was so hard to get up so early and do it. I usually exercise in the afternoon but my brother is in town. I am hoping I have it in me to get up tomorrow morning!:) I can tell you that that is the last thing I want to do!:) The exercises are getting easier but I still can not do pushups! I have never been able to do pushups.
  14. Just got done doing day 1. I did 2 weeks of this last month but didn't keep up with it. So, I am starting over. I made it through everything but those side lunges and the last set of cardio. The jumping jacks and the jump rope kill me!:) I also feel like a old woman trying to get up off the floor between exercises!:)
  15. You might want to take a look at The Well Planned Day. I ordered one and it was discussed in this thread also. A lady from the company responded to that thread with more details. HTH, Lori
  16. We are still trying to figure out what to do with our son's eyes. We have been to a vision therapist here in Texas. He wanted to charge us so much money and there was no way that we could ever pay for it. He was also not willing to help me learn how to help our son at home. So, we have now been to 3 other doctors and they have each told us something different! Very frustrating.
  17. I'm in. I will start Monday. I did this for a couple of weeks and then missed a day and never picked it back up. I need to get in shape!
  18. I know exactly how you feel. My parents are the same way. I had to tell them last year that they can't see my dd12 unless they include our ds 7 and 6. They for some reason like granddaughters better. They do everything for my niece that is 2, also. My ds7 asked me once why Grandpa loved his sister more than him! We live 3 streets away from my parents. They never come over or call us. If we invite them over they have a reason not to come unless it is for dd12's bday or something. They will drive over an hour away to pick up my niece to spend the weekend with them but won't watch my kids for a couple of hours so Dh and I can go to dinner. They even took my niece on a 2 week vacation to Florida. They wanted to take dd12 with them but I had to say no. I don't have any advice just :grouphug: to you. It is hard and hurtful. It sounds kind of mean but I always tell my dh that if anything I am learning how not to be a grandparent.
  19. We have had to deal with the whole cell phone thing. We went to visit my sil a year ago. We were there for 5 days. My nephew, who is 13, did not stop texting the entire time we were there and every where we went he brought a friend. Even when we were just hanging out at sil's house he had a friend over and was texting. We have not seen my nephew in 4 years. He did not say more than 3 words to dh and I or our kids the entire time we were there. Sil let this happen. Sil and our nephew were texting each other at dinner at a NICE restaurant even. What the heck? :001_huh: I just could not believe we went all the way to see them and did not get to spend anytime with our nephew. Our dd12 got a cell phone for Christmas last year. She dances 4 days a week and we wanted her to be able to call us if she needed to or for us to be able to call her if we are running late to pick her up. She is not allowed to text or use her phone to call friends until after 7 when it is free minutes!!:) But it will never come out when we have company or at dinner!
  20. Ours is up. I am making my kids do school this summer!:)
  21. We enjoyed the cruise that we went on. We live in the Dallas area so we lucked out and only had to drive to Galveston. We went on a Carnival 4 day cruise to Cozumel. Dh and I are NOT the party type! But we went in the off season so our ship was not over crowded with the party crowd. We went on our cruise just to relax. We did not do any of the group activities that were scheduled. We don't drink a lot and even if we did we wouldn't drink on a cruise ship. One drink is almost $20!! But the food was awesome. We didn't swim or do the hot tub because they were super small and always had a ton of people in them. We just sat and enjoyed being waited on. We didn't go to the captain's dinner either. Every one else on the ship did. So, we basically, had the whole ship to ourselves that night just to walk around, enjoy the quiet and stars. It was the best vacation we ever went on. We dream all the time of going on another one! Dh and I don't get a chance to just be together and enjoy each other very often. My favorite part was not having to clean, cook, change diapers, and break up fights between the kids. The shows on our trip were PG. They did have some shows late at night that were not PG(we didn't go to these). They have a casino which we did not even walk into, karaoke bar, wine tasting(we did do this), art show/auction (fun to look at the paintings). This has probably not helped you at all but I think you can make a cruise work for you. We set a budget before we left and stuck to it. Even in Mexico we just enjoyed the beach and sites. We didn't pay a ton of money to do all the excursions that you can do. Typing this out is making us sound like really boring people!! But like I said we went to relax and enjoy just being alone not to party!:)
  22. I am so glad you asked about this. I had no idea that debit cards were charged like credit cards on paypal. I have only bought about 4 things off the boards here, a couple of months ago, using paypal. I paid with my debit card. No one said that they were charged extra fees. Now I feel bad! I would have paid for the fees or figured out how to use paypal a different way.
