  1. Thankyou for the further update. I would imagine so long as all of the organs are present and the blood flow particularly to the heart and lungs is all in the right direction it would not effect the babies chance of survival. The main issues are going to be breathing troubles and infection. I hope she has had 2 rounds of steroids now, that will give the babies lungs the very best chance.
  2. Galore Park's Latin Prep is written to the student. I wouldn't do GSWL, I'm using that with my 7yo currently. We are going to Latin Prep next. I'd say your probably past GSWL already.
  3. I'd start at the beginning too. My oldest is in yellow, 2nd in blue and 3rd in orange. Let her work as quickly as she needs to and when she starts to slow down she'll be where she needs to be. There is nothing like building confidence but you don't want to bore her so feel free to skip a page here or there while she is speeding along. Most of all have fun and don't try to over instruct it, the child is surposed to do the discovering :)
  4. Keeping them in my thoughts. She's done a great job to get to 25w. At this gestation it isn't smooth ailing but statistically the odds are in their favour. Hoping everything goes smoothly and the babies can be stabilized quickly. The next 2-3 weeks will be the toughest ride of their lives.
  5. Yes, I have taken all of my children especially as babies/toddlers. They 3yo wellness check picked up my oldests extreme long sightedness which we had no idea about. She had glasses 6 weeks later and they are strong! I consider it important to attend but don't always take on board what they have to say.
  6. Big hugs to you. I don't have any advice because my kids are smaller and still require a lot of direction, but i can offer plenty of sympathy.
  7. Now THAT is a great idea! I am certainly going to do that for my DD, she has the top bunk :D
  8. I've been here for a little while now :) I'm Amber and i live in Australia hence Amber in AUS. I have 4 kids, home schooled from the start. My youngest was a micro prem 25w, 865g. We homeschool so that we can challenge our kids at their level.
  9. Faith i too had pPROM which resulted in Possum's birth at 25+3. At our hospital the survival rate at that gestation was 80%. Is she in the best hospital she can be? Is the NICU the best one in the state? Is there any option to transfer if that isn't the case. Different hospitals have different success rates with micro prems. Has she had steroid shots yet incase it become critical to get the babies out? This will help their chances. There is a pPROM group on Facebook for Mum's in hospital on bed rest here is the link if she is interested. She can read about other people in similar positions. It is actually common for 1 twin to rupture but generally happens much earlier than 24w. My thoughts are with her. I hope that she can hold on a while longer and be in the best place to deliver her babies.
  10. I've not read the original post. As the mother of a micro prem (25w, 865g) and having been through the NICU roller coaster when you are caught up in it all you have an inner drive as a mother to protect your baby at all costs. Perhaps you are not in a position to think rationally at the time because of your adrenalin?? I have no idea. I gave myself to my son, yes, effectively abandoning my other children and DH for almost 4m as the NICU is in a different city. My life was not in danger, but it could have been if i had contacted a uterine infection which was highly likely given i was pPROM. I guess my rational at the time was that my other children knew that i loved them and my new little one had no idea about the world and i had to do what i could for him to make sure he knew we loved him too. I guess it depends on the diagnosis too. If you had cancer or some other slow moving disease which meant you could reach viability and then receive treatment then i would hold off. If it was a situation of PE of HELLP then you have next to no time and holding off could kill you both. You have to rely on the critical timing judgement from staff at your hospital. Unfortunately all hospitals consider viability differently. At our NICU they will take steps to save a baby that is born breathing at any gestation. I personally know of a 21+4 baby who is now 3 and have a friend with a 22+5 who is still in NICU but currently 15 weeks old and doing really well. Another state here has a line in the sand of no intervention before 24 weeks. I'm probably rambling now and off topic. Anyway i don't think you can know what you would do unless in the situation and i dare say some of you may be surprised by the actions you take at the time.
  11. Certainly watch for dehydration. Also watch for a high temp spike or a rash, if either if those things occurr go to ER, it could be something nasty. Hopefully your little one wil be feeling better in the next 24 hours. I spect your Dr won't do much. Will check for dehydration, maybe do a stool sample, but really there is nothing they can do the bug has to work its way out of the system.
  12. Any sewing is do is functional. I've sewn dresses, track suits, modern cloth nappies etc. I've knitted jumpers, scarves and such. It's fun but it isnt my passion.
  13. I put a list of links and books up on my blog. We can't wait!!
  14. There were lots of IUGR babies in NICU with Possum. Many were very early and very tiny. I got to know some of the Mums and the stories seemed similar, placenta problems, cord blood flow problems many also had blood pressure issues. The babies spent many weeks in NICU, some went on to have feeding problems. Of the deaths in the NICU none were IUGR babies whilst we were there.
  15. Thanks for the reminder about using bath time. We could do more there easily :)
  16. Thankyou again! Great ideas of how to integrate these things into our day. I'm just sitting down and trying to nut out a plan for this coming week so that we can integrate more and this helps a lot. At this point there is no diagnosis. I think the assumption is it is a speech delay owing in part to his prematurity (born 25w) and his hearing loss before he got grommets, over a year ago now, his follow up hearing test showed no hearing loss. He makes quite a bit of noise, mostly vowel sounds, and a few consonants he just doesn't have any words, or even repetitive sounds he uses to reference objects or people. He's a very frustrated little boy that's why we are going down the sign route to try and provide SOME method of communication. He also has some issues with understanding. He's only just started understanding what objects are and looking at or pointing to them when you say dog or car etc. There are no sessions or workshops or anything like that. We see the speechie and OT once every few months and they tell me what they want done and then i have to work on it with him. It's just the way the system is set up here. When we move back to the city, hopefully before Christmas i am going to seek out a private speechie and OT and see if they have a different opinion and if they have anything different available. Until then i'm all he's got.
  17. Thanks everyone especially OhElizabeth for the tips on routine and building it all in. I think THAT will be the key for me. In total it works out to about 1.5 hours total per day that they want me doing 1 on 1 with him. At the moment i don't have time to scratch myself. We don't do the intentional play we need to or anything else for that matter, we are just so bogged down in school and running here and there for things. I really need to review my plan over the weekend and come up with something fresh for next week where i am building in those therapy times so we can get to it all. Thankyou!
  18. I feel like i am drowning and need some help working out how to fit everything into my day. Possum is 21m and requires several therapy sessions daily. The experts on our team would like to see - 10-15 minutes intensive language daily 10-15 minutes intensive signing daily 3-5 x 10 minutes sensory diet (proprioceptive, vestibular activities along with joint compressions) I'm homeschooling my 3 older kiddos. My DH works away and is gone 3 weeks at a time. I feel like i need to streamline my olders back to basics to make some room in my day to get all these sessions in. How do you all manage it?
  19. Thanks :) I will hit it from as many angles as possible because we've tried 2 different things so far and it is still a source of confusion.
