  1. I know this is an old thread, but I just found this and it's very useful so I'm bumping it :)
  2. Oh, I should have said that we've been doing the same routine each day of the Olympics and finished today. So we have been doing just a portion each day. All up it's about 10 hours worth of work. Perhaps it was the intensive focus/ unit study style that they enjoyed along with the presentation lap book. Maybe I will chat to them more. We kind of notebook already but this was different. Clearly requires more thought :)
  3. We've just done our very first Lapbook on the Olympics and the kids had a blast! and have requested more. So, if you are a lapbooker how does your day look? We did maths in the morning and some reading on the Olympics then after lunch whilst Possum napped we devoted the entire 2 hour block to our Lapbooks. BUT, we didn't do any Latin or science or spelling or phonics. I'm OK about that for this time around as we were doing 'Olympic School' So, how do you incorporate all of your subjects and still devote a good chunk of time to lapbooking?
  4. My friend and her daughter, both vaccinated have now had it twice. They have had it mildly but have still been quite ill. I had a booster as did DH before Possum came home from NICU. We were told to ensure Grandparents also had boosters as they are the common carriers. In my state there has been serious outbreaks for the past 18m. Our health department says its because of people failing to vaccinate their children and the numbers support it. I know several large families who don't vaccinate who had it last year and were wiped out for 6m.
  5. I say make or cook but if I am getting something ready to cook later then I will say preparing because I am preparing to make it or cook it later :)
  6. You've got to do what works for you and your family. Well done for making a decision it can't have been easy.
  7. Hopefully you will have some more answers soon. Sounds like our on the right track now.
  8. Hugs. Horrible time having a loved one in hospital. When Possum was in NICU for 3.5m and it was so hard leaving him there. I spent as many hours as I possibly could being there for Dr rounds, nurse shift changes etc. I made sure everyone saw and the time I spent with my son. I had input on everything. Other parents you never saw and the Drs and nurses just did what they felt like. Their babies had no voice, it was very sad.
  9. So sorry to hear what you and your family are facing but so pleased that you finally have answers and direction. I can no imagine how difficult the past years have been of knowing something is wrong and not finding any answers.
  10. In a nutshell i have a new Canon 550D it takes lovely pics. When i render the RAW in Lightroom they look awful! (I'm a new LR user) When i render them through Digital Photo Professional (Canon's software) they are better and a closer match to the jpeg, but not exact. What am i doing wrong and how do i fix it? Because at this point it seems far easier to get nice results using jpegs and editing those! LR seems to apply a bunch of settings on import even though there are no presets on import. It sharpens A LOT to the point of skin looking plasticy and unnatural. Colours, especially red are changed too! Some way over saturated and some desaturated. I am committed to trying to work through this because i have some longer term plans for my photography but seriously hitting my head against a brick wall on this one! Anyone have any advice for me? Thanks
  11. For a child with dev delays i would not get rid of the high chair. It is very important for them to sit properly to eat as other issues may pop up if they don't. I would be inclined to loose the jumpers and pack away the pack & play.
  12. I've not read all of the other responses so maybe some of this has already been said. My youngest 21m still nurses frequently at night and has periods of time where he doesn't eat much during the day. We have seen a speechie, an OT and a dietician for a feeding assessment. I would encourage you to do the same. We found out that Possum has some sensory issues where his need for movement and input over ride his hunger so he is finished very quickly. With the help of the OT we now have exercises to do to provide the input at the right times so that he does better at meal times. So far is it working. The dietician was also helpful in telling me that children of this age should be eating every 2.5 hours during the day and that meal should consist of 1 serve starch, 1 serve protein & 1 serve fresh fruit &/or veggies. A serve is considered 1 tablespoon for every year of age. In our case Possum wasn't putting on weight and wasn't thriving on breast milk alone. He needed those additional calories. By nursing all night you are certainly diminishing her appetite, especially at breakfast and unfortunately starting the day poorly can impact on the rest of the meals for the day. I do know just how hard it is to refuse those night feeds and it wasn't where i started. We've been working on this for 6m now and i am only just starting to refuse 1 feed a night, often the first feed he wakes for. Other things these professionals will consider is swallowing issues, oral aversion etc. As i said i would encourage you to seek an evaluation. Unfortunately the longer this continues the harder it will be to undo in the long run.
  13. You missed the none of the above option. I wouldn't eat any of what you've listed.
  14. It took me 4 days after Possum and I was concerned and asking for something to help at that point but I managed to go by myself. I just sat on the loo for 30mins or so and tried to relax as much as possible and let it happen. Don't wait too long.
  15. Great update!! I was told that I could wait until 34w with Possum even though I had pPROM at 25w so long as he remained happy. They would not let me go longer than 34w as there was a risk is skeletal damage from being squashed up without amniotic cushioning. I do know of people holding on for 10 to 15w with pPROM and no infection, so it can certainly be done. Continuing to think of them and glad Mum is in good spirits.
  16. My vote is for 4y world history. Being an Australian I have no interest in spending significant time of American history.
