  1. Hoskins in North Myrtle Beach. It's a favorite for our family. There are reviews on trip advisor and a few other sites.
  2. Thanks, we spent the day looking at some of these. So the short list is Rainbow, he liked the sample we saw, really his type of humor. He saw something about the new Apologia elem. book and we was sold. I'm wondering if we can use this, add some extra readings, and some documentaries? It would at least give some time to figure out what to use in the future. This was not on my list of things to worry about this fall, starting high school with the older one was.LOL Carey
  3. Thanks, we'll sit down and look at those. He's an easy going kid, it's the first time he's really complained. Carey
  4. I need some help with science, our middle son 7th grade has brought science to a halt. He's done Apologia elementary-Astronomy, Botany, all the Zoology, and Anatomy. He really enjoyed them, however when he started Apologia General, we came to a stop. He doesn't like how wordy it is, he feels like it talks in circles and takes too long to get the info out. All this to say we need something else, we talked and he has some ideas. The writing needs to be clear and not to wordy. The pages can't be too cluttered. It would be helpful if it had some type of workbook. He would like to be somewhat independent. Doesn't need to be Christian. Does this even exist? Our older son loved and thrived with Apologia higher levels so I'm not sure what all is out there. Thanks. Carey
  5. Well, lets see, I'm in the read and glean camp. I've been here since 2008 and have managed six posts including this one. I'm Carey, wife to Bob, and four great kids Noah 11, Jonah 10, Chloe 5 and Magdalene (Maggie) 4. We've homeschool from the begining using various programs, lately we've been matching SOTW with SL. I found the boards after my MIL gave me the WTM for Christmas. Thanks for asking, I don't think I've ever outed myself on the boards.
  6. This is our daughters name- we pronounce it Mag-duh-lin. The story of Mary Magdalene was inspiring to us, her love and strength are characteristics we'd love to see in our daughter. Carey
  7. that I love!! We have a cannon D320, it's on sale at Staples right now. Even though ours is working fine I'm thinking of just ordering a new printer, it would be cheaper than ordering just the drum. It's 79.99 after the rebate, I don't know if it still does (we bought our several years ago) but it came with a full sized ink drum. It also has a scaner which has been useful for reproducibles. It doesn't do automatic 2 sided copies but I just flip the paper over to manually do it. Hope this helps someone. Carey
  8. I have one made by Altec Lansing, it's called an inmotion im413 they are difficult to find but can be found on ebay. It's been great and I like that it charges the Fuze when it's docked, the sound quality is good and it has a remote. Hope this helps.
  9. the geography games and the projects. They absolutely love the geo. games. They feel foolish (their word, not mine) pretending to fly. We did the fiesta. We have added extra crafts and we always get cook books for the country and try a recipe. They don't like coloring, but will do it. Thank you for the suggestions it has given me much to think about. We did galloping the globe in K and had a great time with it. carey
  10. We have been doing MFW-ECC for 12 weeks now with 4th and 2nd grade boys and other than where countries are located and how poor and what to pray for the kids aren't really getting much from the program. They aren't remembering anything about the country. The science has been disappointing to them. They are great kids and never complain, they just keep asking if there is anymore. I will admit we haven't really found our groove yet. This is our second year with MFW so I was expecting a smooth year. I did check into TOG during the summer and I think we will go in that direction next year. I have SOTW 1 and Ag on the shelf and wonder if we aren't better off going with that for now? We were going to use it but then our girls were born and I went with MFW since it was already planed out. I know most use SOTW with younger students, how will this be for a 4th grader? If we do use SOTW 1 can we go into TOG Y2 easily. Or do we just keep trying ECC? Ok, and now that I've written a book I'm still confused. Help? Carey 2 boys 9 and 7 2 girls 2 and 1
