  1. Praying a simple prayer of healing in the powerful name of Jesus. Please let us know how she is doing.
  2. I love starbucks, but sadly, it's rare to find it living overseas. I'm usually half asleep in the morning and would probably spill more milk on the counter than in my coffee cup as a result. I drink it black to avoid having the clean up.:D
  3. ... although both of my midgets call me Mommy. Here's where I transition and tell you that I call my Mom "Momma-Mouse". I can't remember who in the family started it, but it's been years and the name has stuck.
  4. It's sort of the back of my head, but yes, it's still me.:D
  5. One more thing... would WP's All American be a better fit for a 4th grade DD and 1st grade DS? Or would you just go with AS1 followed by AS2?
  6. SnowWhite, Do you spend 30 min a day simply reading or does that include the time spent on all of the hands on projects WP offers?
  7. selections for American History. I have a 9 year old DD and 6 year old DS. TIA!
  8. I have used both Horizons 3 and CLE. I liked Horizons (it was bright and colorful too) but thought that the TM didn't offer any help whatsoever in offering teaching helps. We switched to CLE a few weeks ago and are both liking it better. IMHO, is is just as rigorous as Horizons but the simplified format and teaching helps offered make it a much better fit for us. I haven't used Saxon so I can't really offer any insight on that. Have your DC offered any opinions on which one they prefer?
  9. Can anyone tell me why they wouldn't use the readers before 4th grade. I just switched my DD to CLE 3 for math and it is working really well. I was looking at using CLE's LA & Reading for next year with my (4th) and 1st grader. Do you have complaints about their 1st grade curriculum?
  10. DD8 "Little Bean" DS5 "Tiger Cub" or "First Name Monster" Collectively known as "The Midgets"
  11. First of all :grouphug: to you both. My DS (age 5) started wearing glasses about 6 months ago... we walked out of the doctor's office and the first thing he said was, "Mommy, what is that on the trees?" Took me a couple of minutes to figure out he had never seen leaves before. :001_smile:
  12. I'm thinking about using WP next year for American History. Has anyone used their LA program? Is it comprehensive, or do I need to add in spelling, grammar, reading comprehension, etc? I'm only using Rod & Staff 3 this year and feel like we're missing a lot as far as writing skills go, so I am definitely interested in something that incorporates this into the curriculum. Or, if you have any other suggestions, I'm all :bigear: Thanks!
  13. Thanks again for the wonderful links, ladies. I really appreciate it!! Hopefully with some sort of plan fleshed out I will be able to implement this next year.
  14. I'd check out Winter Promise too... they have some wonderful books selections for their American History Curric. You could look at the list and find them at the library as well.
  15. I bought this last year thinking it would be a fun, light way to introduce Latin/Greek roots and words to my DC. However, it has not gotten done. Not even once. :D I'm starting to try and flesh out what I want to use next year and would like to try again. Does anyone have any suggestions for implementing this? What has worked for your family?
  16. I'll throw another vote in for CLE. We just finished book one of Horizons 3 but I felt like my DD struggled the entire semester... like you said, the TM was zero help and I was left to try and figure out how to teach each concept. We just made the switch to CLE (I started her in light unit 306) and she has already remarked about how much she likes it better. It's the same spiraling approach with examples done on the student pages for each new concept. So far we both really like it but I'm sure like most things it will take us a few weeks to get the feel of it. HTH
  17. I'm :bigear:. I'm suffering from a little burn out too... but I can't figure out if it's because we're a little isolated living overseas (very few other HS'ers) or the frigid weather we've been having. I miss the sunshine and warm weather.
  18. Sounds like WP wins the popular vote. How IS the WP language arts curriculum? We're using Rod & Staff this year, and while it is very thorough, it's a bit on the dry side. I've considered changing but would like to find something fun AND challenging.
  19. We actually have a ton of stuff here that teaches Hangul... if you'd like to PM me your address I can pick something up and send it to you. I'm not sure if I would go with Rosetta Stone... the Korean language (naturally) doesn't use a romanized alphabet, so learning the sounds takes a little practice. My two DC are starting to get pretty good at speaking it (better than me, LOL) ... do you want something workbook-ey?
  20. We will finish up SOTW 1 this year and while I should probably move right on in to SOTW2, or the equivalent time period in another curriculum, I am dying to do American History. I'll have a 4th grader and 1st grader next year and would like to find something that would work for both of them. Any suggestions? I've looked at MFW but they recommend that you not use their stuff beyond ECC with 1st grade... I've thought about doing it anyway or American 1 with Winter's Promise. If anyone has used either of these and can tell me how you liked it or offer another recommendation, I'm all:bigear:. Thanks!!
