  1. It sounds like you simply have really bad case of strep. (You can thank me later for concurring with your physician and offering you a brilliant medical diagnosis.):D However, if your neck gets stiff and your fever spikes and your headache worsens call your MD... If the white spots in your mouth start to look like cottage cheese it probably IS oral thrush and you'll need medication for it. Don't forget to buy a new tooth brush to use after you've been on antibiotics for 48-72 hours. Feel better soon!!
  2. Do you feel like your neck is stiff or have difficulty turning your head?
  3. What is she planning on majoring in? I had quite a bit of student loans after I graduated from nursing school. However, the loans were deferred and a percentage forgiven and paid by the govt each year over the course of five years... paid in full but I had to work full time until they were paid off. If I had not been able to work full time then I would have paid them off on my own dime at a low percentage rate. I believe the govt still offers this same program for nurses, teachers and law enforcement. :grouphug::grouphug: and prayers going up for you tonight.
  4. It sounds like you have stomatitis (can be caused by oral thrush secondary to being on antibiotics). It's unusual that it would happen a day after antibiotics but it could happen. Do you have any other rashes on your body or feel like your skin is starting to sunburn? If yes, RUN don't walk back to the doctor. It could be a very serious reaction called Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and typically starts in the face/mouth and works its way down. PLEASE check back in here and let me know how you're doing. I'll put you on my prayer list tonight....:grouphug:
  5. grace = unmerited favor and, I'm a nurse. so... nursewithgrace Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast. or Ephesians 4:7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift. I like this one too: Titus 3:7 that being justified by His grace we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
  6. I'm 100% sure that I believe what I believe. :D
  7. We've flown with our pet several times. Most airlines accept pets... just call in advance and make a reservation for them at the same time you purchase your airline tickets. Most airlines charge a $50 fee and will allow your pet to fly in the cabin as long as the cage will fit under the seat in front of you. If it doesn't they'll fly down in cargo hold. Our vet prescribes an anti-anxiety drug that we give about an hour before our flight so that he sleeps the majority of the way there. If you are not flying with your pet there are several pet shipping services available. http://www.happytailstravel.com/
  8. :iagree: Plus, when you factor in safety with each family member not having a seat belt the decision is easy. A "new" van is cheaper than catastrophic hospital bills.
  9. Ooooh, Chaing Mai is gorgeous. I want to live half the year on a beach (any beach, I'm not picky) and the other half of the year in the mountains. :D
  10. They are both bronchodilators. However some patients are a little more sensitive to "beta-2 agonist" medications and experience an elevated heart rate as a side effect. For lack of a better explanation xopenex is a more pure form of albuterol and doesn't seem to have the same cardiac side effects that albuterol does. If cardiac symptoms are not an issue with albuterol I would probably choose that simply because it is (much) cheaper. If cardiac symptoms are an issue then xopenex is an excellent choice.
  11. Ben & Jerry's New York Super Fudge Ice Cream A glass of red wine A warm bath Curling up next to our dog (Mr Beasley) with a good book
  12. I love it!! I think I'm guilty of breaking one of the ten commandments... I totally covet your school room and love your blackboard. Thanks for sharing!
  13. Our 7 year old DS has a set of bunk beds too. We actually went out and bought a toddler bed rail from Wal-Mart and installed it along the side of the bed. He would have to climb over it in order to fall out of the bed. He'll be eight years old in a few weeks and we still use the rail. I'll probably leave it up until he's 16 and can drive.:D
  14. Thanks for all of the wonderful responses ladies. It's nice to know I'm not alone... we have only homeschooled one year (when we were stationed in overseas) and are back in the US now. Both kids are currently attending private school but we're contemplating HSing again. My DH is actually leaving for a one year remote this summer so if we pull them out for the coming school year I would be going it alone. It's appealing because I would certainly have the freedom to travel (we are currently stationed at the base farthest from my family... it's literally a 36 hour drive home) and the idea of being able to go "home" is comforting. Plus, I hate the idea of being a slave to the school calendar and trying to coordinate trips home to family around holidays. But, the flip side of all of that is that I would have no help for the year and am worried that I would turn into mean Mommy with little to no break from the kids. I hate to admit that about myself, but well, it is what it is. :D Have any of you continued to homeschool during a remote? If so, how did it go? We are definitely pulling them out after he returns home in 2012. The academics at our private school haven't been what we expected them to be, plus we'll likely move every year for the next 3-4 years after he gets back and the added stability that homeschooling offers will be much needed. DH is straddling the fence on homeschooling now and thinks that the kids staying in school will give me a break during the day for the year he is gone. It's true, it would give me a break but the academics aren't stellar and they will be even further behind after another year of what I consider to be a substandard education. There is a waiting list a mile long to get into the private school they're currently attending (go figure) so if I pulled them out and then belatedly figured out I couldn't hack it (gosh, I seem like such a whiney baby... a year just seems like an unimaginable length of time to me right now) they wouldn't be able to go back and I would be "stuck". Public school is NOT an option. I suppose we could just hang out and play for the year ... my biggest fear is pulling them out and then feeling like they're not learning anything while they're home with me.
  15. Wow, I never quite thought of the advantages of HS'ing that way... we've moved seven times in fourteen years, and a support group for me would be a welcome change.
  16. I should be packing. Dh and I are flying to Virginia on Sunday.. and my Mom is flying in to watch the midget types for us. :D I. Am. So. Excited. As if I have nothing else to do... yet, here I am again.:D
  17. You've gotten some wonderful (and accurate) replies... from a medical standpoint most people are out of commission 4-6 weeks. Be gentle with yourself. If you are short of breath or spike another fever immediately call your family doctor and go back in for reevaluation. Sleep when your body needs to sleep and then rest when you're awake. Patients who push themselves too hard to feel better and don't take the time to recover are the ones that are ill for 6+ months.... You'll be healthy and ready to take on the world by spring. :D
  18. Hmm, I posted this once before and it didn't show up. :glare: Here's a great site for making buttermilk from a "starter"... sort of like friendship bread. http://biology.clc.uc.edu/fankhauser/cheese/buttermilk.htm Enjoy!!
