  1. I just started Logic of English Essentials and FLL2 with my 1st grader. She is reading at around a 5th or 6th grade level and previously completed 18 months of WRTR. She is doing well with both programs. I am thinking of dropping FLL 2 to simplify things. (I have other little ones and I am not getting everything done). What level is the grammar in LOE compared to the FLL series? After we complete LOE (it may take longer than a year) where would she be on grammar? Should I wait a year to come back to FLL 2? I hope this makes sense. :-)
  2. Thank you SO much for this information. It is REALLY helpful!
  3. I have been thinking about how to incorporate US history "lite" during our 4 year cycle. My child is starting first grade. So I am thinking this year and the future. Below are just some initial thoughts. What do you think about the below ideas? Is there a better way to set this up? I was thinking doing some read alouds or interesting textbooks. But I have no idea which ones. Thank you SO much for you help. This is all so new to me. :-) 1st SOTW Ancients and State study 2nd SOTW Medieval and Presidents 3rd SOTW Early Modern - Encyclopedia of US history that corresponds with SOTW 4th SOTW Modern Ages- Encyclopedia of US history that corresponds with SOTW
  4. Thank you all. We don't really have anyone who speaks Spanish that we interact with so I was leaning towards Latin. But I do want my children to be fluent in Spanish.
  5. Please help me decide! I would like to start SSL or SSS with my first grader. How do I decide which route to go? Latin or Spanish? Would both me too much? I would eventually like my children to know both Latin and Spanish. This is my second year homeschooling.
  6. How necessary are the teachers guides for the God's Design for Life Science? I am going to get the tests and worksheets for sure. I will be using it with a 1st grader.
  7. Thank you so much Targhee and Boscopup! I feel a lot better about Essentials. I was concerned that maybe my kids are missing something by not doing Foundations.
  8. I have two children about the same age as yours. I was curious if there was a reason you decided to go with Essentials over Foundations? I was really going back and forth trying to decide if I should get Foundations or Essentials. Because of finances I couldn't do both. I ended up ordering Essentials and I am waiting for it to arrive.
  9. Has anyone seen these or have them? What are your thoughts? We don't do CC but we use some of the memory work. I have the timeline cards and love them.
  10. Wow, thanks for all that! I am really tempted to buy this. I guess we like "dry" because that sounds perfect for us.
  11. Is there anything hands on in it? I have heard on here a lot that Elemental Science is dry. What do people mean exactly Can you give me an example?
  12. We also plan on continuing math and reading through the summer with our K and 1st grader- just not as intense.
  13. For my advanced 1st grader all we are doing for art is Draw Right Now. Is there a simple picture study or art appreciation program out there?
  14. Hunter, Thank you SO much for your comment. I have been seriously considering using these books. I think I have read every thread here about them. I am a minimalist at heart. Besides Math and Language Arts, what else should I add? How would I actually do this? This really appeals to. I currently have a 1st grader and Kindergartener.
  15. So would it be fine if I waited until 3rd grade and just did FLL3?
  16. It looks like you covered everything. Looks great!
  17. I have a soon to be first grader that is reading at a 5th grade level, is almost done with WWE1 (but I am thinking about having her do it again with the longer sentences), she is also doing well with spelling (using WRTR), for fun she likes to write stories or letters. Should I do FLL1 or FLL2 or skip it all together and wait until 2nd grade? I am really torn about what to do. I don't want her to be bored with FLL1 but I don't think she is ready for FLL2.
  18. These sound great! Do you have a link to her blog?
  19. Did you use the teacher manuals? Are they necessary?
  20. It looks like Gods Design for Science may work.
  21. That is a great feeling! Have you started it yet? I am interested in using it. I would love to know what all did you buy?
  22. It looks like I would need to buy a separate book for both the grammar and the logic stage. Is that correct?
  23. Follows the WTM recommendations (even loosely) that I can use for both the grammar stage and logic stage? I am thinking a head (maybe too far) and I would love to have a science curriculum that my kids can cycle through twice. Does that make sense? We are just starting out with a 1st grader. I am a minimalist and also trying to save money. :-)
  24. At about lesson 40 or 50 we started on WRTR. So her her spelling and printing have really benefited from that program great. But 100 Easy Lesson really got the reading off to a wonderful start for us.
