  1. Thanks for the info ladies! I always wondered if they would work...seems as if they do. I'm going to try to get something today.
  2. I really need a tan. I am NOT a sun person. I used to keep a light tan when I was young, but I never sat out and baked in the sun. Two years ago I sat out in the sun without any protection for about an hour. I only wanted a little sun in my cheeks. What I got was a big brown spot on my forehead that has never gone away. It isn't too bad, but I won't be getting out in the sun without a hat again. Spots are for dalmations! :glare: Anyway.... Last week I went to a hair salon. Tired of maintaining highlights I decided to go back to almost my natural brown haircolor...but a little darker, a little richer. I came out with black hair. With red tints. Ugh. It is HORRID! (they said they can put a toner on it to lighten it...but I'm really afraid of them just damaging my hair.) Now I look very, very, very pale. My face looks positively WHITE! So I'm wondering if the fake tans work....at least until I get back to hair not so ....BLACK! Thanks,
  3. I've never heard of this, I'll have a look. Thanks.
  4. I own SL3 and all the books. I bought it years ago for my boys. She will read most of the books, (even the read alouds) for history. But I don't really care for the guides that go with them. We never used them before either. No unit studies as I already have my other subjects picked out. I'm just looking for some simple literature guides. I never could get into Five in a Row but I know many love it. Thanks for the ideas though.
  5. Well, so far I've picked out: (this is not set in stone) Misty of Chincoteague Where the Red Fern Grows Island of the Blue Dolphins The Incredible Journey Anne of Green Gables Tom Sawyer Swiss Family Robinson plus poetry, myths & legends and fairy tales and some Shakespeare. (These will all be read alouds. She will still be doing history and her own literature readings ala WTM) The Arrow (Bravewriter) has guides for poetry, myths & legends, and fairy tales, so I may go with those for that. I know I can find literature guides for probably any of the other books anywhere, but I want something like The Arrow produces. Copywork/dictation and literary elements. I also know that I can probably do it myself....but I don't want to. I want everything laid out for me this year. I NEED everything laid out for me this year. It is going to be a hectic one. Thanks.
  6. So this year I wanted everything laid out and streamlined for me. I really like my choices so far though I'm still waiting on math and LA...but I really liked the samples. For my 4th grade dd I'm going to use: CLE math CLE LA History Odyssey Early Modern REAL Science: Chemistry What I'd really like is a literature plan. I love The Arrow guides over at Bravewriter, they would be perfect, but they don't have guides for any books I want her to read this year. If I could just find something like The Arrow I'd be totally set. Any ideas? Thanks,
  7. I've had two boys go through this in the past but for the life of me I cannot remember... Is there enough room on the pages to work all the problems? Or will my dd end up having to rewrite the problems on paper then working them? Thanks. RhondaM.
  8. I have a 9yr old/4th grader and a 14 yr old/9th. Not set in stone but it is looking like we will be doing SL 3 for 4th and the first half of SL100 for 9th. For the 9th grader I'll also add in the Hewitt History of US test (the essay questions on the test will help me with WHAT to have him write about), and projects. Plan on reading a portion of Paul Johnson's History of the American People for 9th as well. I'm hoping for a good year.
  9. Alley, there are just too many good books out there! :) If you order your library books online, the library website should tell you what type of book it is (picture book, chapter book), how many pages it is and a description of the book.
  10. I haven't read what the others wrote. Personally I'd email her back, telling her that the camera would be in a bag on my front porch and it could be picked up at anytime. Ugh. What a pain.:glare:
  11. bump..because I KNOW there are people here that have used this book. :-)
  12. What did you do for labs? Did you do the ones in the book? Or something else? Thanks, RhondaM.
  13. :grouphug: I am so sorry for your diagnosis. I was diagnosed with the same in September/October of 2008. breastcancer.org forums were a blessing to me. I found the lump myself. 2-3 years before I had had a mammogram that found nothing. It was clear as day on the ones they took after my diagnosis. Quite wide spread too. Anyway...I agree that they need to find a non-invasive breast exam. I also think self-exams are VERY important. RhondaM.
  14. You can always buy some little girl panties...the kind that have lace all over the back side. They sometimes make a nice diaper cover. RhondaM.
  15. Has anyone used Human Odyssey rather than Western Civilization in TOG 2? If so can you tell me which HO pages go for each TOG week? I'm sure I could figure this out...but if someone has already done the work....I would be SO thankful. RhondaM.
  16. http://www.reliv.com/ If you need more information about it just send me a PM. I probably won't be able to help much but my friend can help you. She is a homeschool mom too. RhondaM.
  17. This is kind of personal, but I want to share what has helped our family. I started my teen ds on Reliv a few months ago. Our family has been going through a LOT these last two years. Both my parents died within 6 months of each other, I found out I had breast cancer, went through 2 surgeries in 6 months, my dh had a back surgery right after my 2nd surgery. We left our church of 15 years. All at the same time my son hit puberty. He was very angry, depressed. He was cutting himself. (The cutting scared me so bad!) Nothing interested him any longer. He would just cry because he was so miserable. He was just in a deep dark place and I did NOT know how to reach him. I came *this* close to getting him professional help. I had a sweet friend who had been telling me about Reliv for months. I decided to give it a try. He started feeling better within a week or so. He started gaining weight (he needed it), his skin started clearing up (he has eczema), his good humor returned. His interest started coming back. His anger went away. HE even noticed he was feeling better. Most of the time he WANTS to take it. Now and then he will skip a few days and he starts getting irritable and a bit snarky. I am so AMAZED at how it helped. We were obviously dealing with a nutritional problem combined w/ puberty plus all the bad stuff happening in our lives. I believe in this stuff. I've listened to my friend go on and on about all the good stories she has heard about Reliv helping all kinds of problems, including how it has helped her own family. I only know how it helped my kid and I am so thankful. RhondaM.
  18. This is true, I'd forgotten about that. Well, that makes going the CW route a little easier. If I decide to stick with CW. I'm just thinking of SWB's directions for high school kids to write 2 papers per week, as well as read/outline Rulebook for Arguments, then do an assignment. That sounds easier than two papers on top of what he will be doing in CW. (How much writing do you do outside of CW in highschool???) But maybe it isn't easier. Not that I'm looking for the easy way out, but I don't want to make this more difficult than it has to be. Thanks. RhondaM.
  19. I've just spent the last little while listening to SWB's Writing in the Highschool Years. She makes it sound so simple and doable. I'm now very tempted to order a copy of A Rulebook for Arguments for my rising 9th grader. We've been using Classical Writing...which I love...and I already have Diogenes to use. But, this other looks so much easier to work with...especially since I'm planning on a different grammar text than Harvey's anyway. (And though he is a good writer he needs the grammar...we've had a rough two years and he has only completed R&S up through a portion of level 6) And except for a few Mind Benders books he has not had any logic, which I guess we will also be starting this year. Should we put off doing A Rulebook for Arguments until after Traditional Logic I & II? The reason I ask is that in the revised edition of her book it suggest putting off using Traditional Logic until 9th...but it also suggest using the Rulebook in 9th. So, I'm just really not sure what all to use. CW Diogenes, R&S 6 and Traditional Logic or A Rulebook for Arguments, R&S 6 and TL. Thanks much, RhondaM.
