  1. Yes it is! Thanks very much for your help. I really want to do this program. And if I can buy it a little at a time that would be perfect! It looks like I'd need to start with: Guide book OLG Make Your Own Captain's Log Once that was delivered I could figure out what else was needed. My library would probably have quite a bit. I could make use of them as long as I didn't need it for more than 4 weeks or so. Thanks again!
  2. We don't own a TV, but maybe we can find some IMAX films and check out some documentaries or something. We are near Galveston and can go to Moody Gardens...we have the Houston Planetarium and some observation centers to explore too. I'm sure we can find some great field trips around here. What do you think about the extra writing projects in the OLG? What about the projects? Are there enough to interest older kids? Do you think I could JUST buy the Sea and Sky Guide, the OLG, and the consumables then? Is the guide divided up into units: Sea, Sky, Astronomy (or something similar) so that I could purchase a unit at a time? What do you use for your main writing? Do you use WP? Or something else. My older son (currently doing CW) would love the idea of the mystery writing project that goes along with HS2 Creating Captivating Fiction. Thanks very much for your reply!
  3. I'm thinking of using this as sort of a fun add on to the main history and science we will be doing next year. In the works for next year: TQ R&R for my 7th grader Some sort of World Geography for my 10th grader and Classical Astronomy Signs and Seasons for both of them. Winter Promise Sea and Sky looks like fun. But it is expensive! Can I please get some reviews on this ...ESPECIALLY if you've used it along with the Older Learners Guide. Do you think a couple of older boys would have fun with this? (I really need to work on relationships with my older son and put some joy back into our lives and learning....fun projects might be just the key.) :) Thanks.
  4. I am pretty sure we will stick with TQ through highschool, probably at the rate of one guide per year. Although we can do as much history as we like with the guides and which ever books we read, I don't end up feeling as if our world revolves around history.
  5. We started the history cycle over with Truthquest. I like it because it has history spines, non-fiction and literature suggestions for grades K-12. And it makes for a relaxing way to do history...as well as having great commentary to spark discussions. All I have to do is add in map work, which is easy with Knowledge Quest. I love the idea of TOG (so much that I own TOG years 1-3) but it makes my head spin too and I haven't been able to use it.
  6. I'll play! The stupidest thing I'd love to do is be a storm chaser and watch a great big tornado rip up a few trees! This is really stupid, because, well, all storm chasers are stupid and because I'm terrified of tornados!
  7. I start planning this early because I need to mentally 'try out' different curriculums before making a commitment to actually buying one.
  8. No idea about the hamster food. I know when I had zebra finches we supplimented their diet (because they had hatchlings) with egg. I boiled them and chopped it up for them. Gave them shell and all. The shell was good for them. They loved it. I wonder if this would work for any bird or if it just a zebra finch thing.
  9. This option gets my vote! I love H.A. Guerber! We use it along with Truthquest TQ has commentary that has provided many great jumping off places for interesting conversations. It is easy to divide up and go at your own pace. It was very simple to get through both the Ancients & Greece guide and the Roman guide in one year. (There is only a few pages devoted to ancients, most of the guide's focus is on the Greeks.) Besides commentary the book list are fabulous. It has suggestions for both in print and out of print books. For each section there are suggestions for several spines (SOTW, Guerber , and other spines for grades K-12) then a list of non-fiction and another list for fiction. It even has sections devoted to suggestion for books on art and tells you what pages to look at. You can go as deeply as you want. Love it, love it, love it! There is also a very busy yahoo group for TQ. Lots of helpful ladies there. Oh...btw...I use CW too. There are what is called ThinkWrites through the TQ program that could be used...but it isn't really much. Not like TOG. With TOG the writing program looks so good I feel as if I HAVE to use it. Cuz, I'm a box checker. And um...CW and TOG writing...would um..be a bit much. My kids would be like ..... So, CW and TQ work well together. And if I ever get brave enough I can use Guerber models for writing.
  10. This is my first attempt at posting on this board...but I want to see if it works. If so you'll get your reputation bumped up! :D RhondaM.
