  1. I use the It Figures videos with Charlene Prickett. It's a Canadian program that used to be on the Lifetime channel way back in the 80's. I really like them. I'm not sure if they have a website but their toll free number is 1-800-getfit. Nancy
  2. I've become addicted to Dutch Blitz. I make my 10yo play it with me almost daily! I'm not sure which games we will be adding this year, though. :001_smile: Nancy
  3. If they're really small like cherry tomato size, you can pickle them. I just did a batch with all mine. Can't wait until they're ready!
  4. Sat. to the doctor with my 10yo-I think he has strep. Then home to plan the classes I teach on Mondays and Tuesdays and to do some projects around the house. Probably will clean out the chicken coop too. Dh will be with 13yo at a swim meet all day. Sun. dh will be staying home with sick 10yo and I will be going to 13yo's swim meet for the day. :001_smile: Nancy
  5. But unless we figure out what caused this mess we're in, we may be doomed to repeat it. :001_smile: Nancy
  6. I joined Facebook to re-connect with some friends I traveled with in a performing group back in the 80's. I just joined the WTM group too! :001_smile: Nancy
  7. Funny, I just polled our hens and they are saying: Mc-Mc-Mc-McCAIN! Mc-Mc_Mc-McCain! Nancy
  8. "you people?" Ouch! "Scared of Muslims?" Not even close! Comparing talk radio to Nazi Germany-isn't that a bit extreme? Talk about being scared! Nancy
  9. We're adopting 2 kittens this weekend (siblings from the same litter) and need suggestions for names! Got any ideas? You folks are always so good at this! :001_smile: Nancy
  10. I wouldn't rely on things I heard to decide. For our family, my husband and I went to see it first and decided it was something both our boys could handle. (Especially since both of them are obsessed with anything having to do with firefighting). :) Nancy
  11. "That anyone could stay in there for 35 years. Man we need some term limits so we can stop having career politicians! (no particular disrespect for Biden - I thought he was fine, just that I think we need fresh blood in there on a regular basis)" Amen to that, whether Republican, Democrat, Independent!
  12. allrecipes.com Confessions of a Pioneer Woman The Noble Pig Notes From the Trenches A Year of Crockpotting The last 4 are blogs that I enjoy reading. They don't post recipes every day (except for the crockpotting one). :001_smile: Nancy
  13. I schedule an hour or so of quiet reading time every afternoon and I let him read the merit badge booklets and fill out the worksheets then. He does his reading for "school" (literature and such) at night in bed. Sometimes, we can make a field trip out of it. For instance, when he was working on his merit badge for Citizenship of the Nation, we went to Washington DC. When it came time to meet with his merit badge counselor, who works at the county courthouse, he spent the day with his counselor job-shadowing. :001_smile: Nancy
  14. Package #4 offers all 5 DVD's for around $73 with free shipping. Nancy
  15. This one is my favorite: Grate a cucumber and toss it with some salt. Put it in a couple layers of cheesecloth in a strainer over a bowl. After a few hours, give the cheesecloth a few squeezes to strain the rest of the liquid out of the cucumber. Add that to yogurt cheese with some sour cream, minced garlic, lemon juice, pepper and dill weed. I serve this with homemade pita chips and veggies. Yum!
  16. "Both your husband and his father need to "man up." The time has come for them to put on their big boy boxers and deal with this situation like real life, grown men, no more of this Pinocchio garbage. Benign neglect is not benign. It is a lame excuse for sitting around doing nothing while your house falls down around you." In addition, something our pastor said this Sunday that really stuck with me. When dealing with difficult people in our lives, he said, "Don't let anyone steal your joy." Wise words, those. Families can be very tricky. Hugs to you. Nancy
  17. It was called Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson. I really enjoyed it. It was about a man (the author) who was rescued by villagers after a failed attempt to climb K2 and he vowed to come back and build a school for the girls in their community. For some reason I've been on this kick lately of wanting to read books about Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc. Dh and I recently read The Kite Runner and watched the movie last night. :001_smile: Nancy
  18. I used to be this way, and my 13yo was this way for a long time. He's better now, but he still gets worked up about certain things. The other posters had some great suggestions. The only thing I would add is that I taught ds some breathing techniques to try and relax. In for a count of 3 through the nose, and out for a count of 3 through the mouth. That really helps me calm down and I think it helps him too! Nancy
  19. Southern Pecan. Mmmmmm. Heaven in a cup! I think the company that makes it is called Green Mountain Coffee or something like that. I can only buy it in New England, so when I go out there every summer I stock up! Nancy
  20. We use plain white cardstock and paste pictures on it that I've googled. The boys write the date and a sentence or two about the picture. I tape them together with clear packing tape so we can take it down and fold it up accordion-style. However, right now it is taped along the top of our schoolroom right under the ceiling. So far we have one for Ancients and one for Middle Ages. By the time we finish all 4 volumes of SOTW, it will go all the way around the room! I love the way it looks with a hodge-podge of pictures and writing! :001_smile: Nancy
  21. Just because it would be so cool for an "ice cream scooper" to win a million dollars! Nancy
