  1. That's not a very nice thing to say. There are many valid reasons someone may not want to have their DNA tested. A big one is that by law you are required to disclose any DNA results when applying for life insurance.
  2. I'm not familiar with any. I saw in the app store there is one for $4.99, but I'm not sure how good it is. Maybe someone else will chime in with a recommendation. If you want a good one for birds, I recommend the Merlin Bird ID by Cornell Lab.
  3. If you have a smartphone, you can try the free app called PictureThis Plant. I tried taking a photo of your photo with my phone, but it's giving me all kinds of different answers, none of which seem correct.
  4. A really nice zero-gravity camping chair. My DH has one, but for some reason I never tried it out until last weekend. Now I want my own! It has a little table attached to it, so there is a place to put your drink and a book.
  5. I love Command strips because they work so well on my walls. I've never had a problem with them and I use them all the time. However, a friend of mine has used them and they tear up her walls every single time! I don't know what the difference is? drywall? paint?
  6. Nope, don't have hurt feelings. Like Tibbie said, FB is changing quickly. I've quit "liking" a bunch of stuff that I used to automatically "like" in the past.
  7. What about adopting two retired racing greyhounds? They really are couch potato dogs. They need brief, intense periods of play, and then are happy to go cuddle up and watch TV with you. I suggest two dogs, because they have been around dogs their entire lives. Only one would get very lonely.
  8. Yes, sous vide to the rescue! Personally, I'd skip any day-of-wedding grilling or cooking.
  9. When I was a kid, Pillsbury had these Bundt Cake Mixes. The Boston Cream Pie one was heavenly. It was different than the Boston Cream Pie mixes on the market now because this one had the pudding baked into it. Oh, what I wouldn't give for a piece of that cake today!
  10. Happy Birthday! I think all the cakes look delicious! What about a flourless chocolate torte and then stenciling it with white powdered sugar?
  11. I'm a lefty, so I'm picky with my pens. My favorite pen is the Uniball Jetstream Retractable in 0.7mm with black ink. For my colorful pens, I like the retractable Pilot G-2 in the 0.7mm size. I have no bleed through with either pen, even on cheap notebook paper.
  12. Our clean up time looks very similar to BlsdMama's. We have specific cleaning chores that we complete sometime in the morning. I use the Motivated Moms list. The kids pick what they want to do and we all get to work together. In the afternoon, we do a quick tidy, run the vacuum, sweep, etc. Hilariously, we call it "Daddy Clean Up Time." I started it when the kids were toddlers. They knew that picking up all their toys meant that Daddy was coming home from work. The name stuck, so even now that a few of them are teens, we still call it Daddy Clean Up Time... lol! I used to assign and rotate the chores, but now the kids are pretty good about running on autopilot. They see what needs to get done, and for the most part, take care of it. For laundry, everyone has an assigned day. Each child washes his/her own clothes, sheets, and bath towels on his/her day. I don't understand how Moms of many can handle sorting clothes. We tried the dots, the color coding, etc., but it works out better to never mix the laundry. Each person has his/her own mini-laundry basket in his/her room.
  13. Thank you so much! MerryAtHope, I plan on doing exactly what you suggest. I will add that activity to our review time. Gil, I think you would like AAR based on your comments. My son would get a huge kick out of writing the "y" on his thumb nail. I'm spending our reading time tomorrow doing that! Thank you both!
  14. We're using AAR, Level 3, working on suffixes, particularly dropping the y, adding i and the suffix. My little guy is doing great if he can read the root word first. Ex. Silly --> Sillier. However, if he comes upon the word without seeing the root word first, then he has the worst time. I'm having him use his letter tiles to reverse the process (take off the suffix, change the i back into a y). That helps some, but I was wondering if there was some other teaching technique or exercise I could use to help him. Thanks for any help!
  15. I'm so sorry! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  16. 1.0 - 1.5 hr for math 0.5 - 1.0 hr for writing 0.5 - 1.0 hr for reading 1.0 - 1.5 hr for science/history 1.0 - 2.0 hr for everything else (electives) Easy days, it's only about 4 hrs. Hard days, 7 hrs. We probably average 5.5 hrs. I really miss the days of 2 - 3 hours of work. I want to play more... lol!
  17. I don't know about how the gates are set-up, but can I rant that Bodie Miller is so incredibly boring?! His monotone is killing the slalom for me. The only time I had to rewind to listen to what he said was when he said the skier was terrible this year because she had gotten married.
  18. Oh my gosh! I was telling my DH about this thread, and guess what my guy did? He surprised me with one! That sneaky guy - he ordered it same day delivery and addressed it to me. I told him I didn't order anything, so it must be some mistake on Amazon's part. LOL! He got me the Anova. I'll report back in after I give it a try!
  19. Oh my, you all are enablers! I want a sous vide now!
  20. We do have gun buy back programs here in the US. St. Louis, MO just had one two months ago.
  21. He had an AK-47! It IS an assault rifle (fully automatic, standard 30 rounds magazine). It's been banned in the US since the 80s.
  22. Get scientific! :) Those piercing guns at the mall are not sterile. The needle is the way to go. Check with your doctor's office. Some of them have started offering ear piercing (and they do it with a sterile needle).
  23. Carbon monoxide poisoning can make you do things and then not remember them. There is a case on Reddit where a guy was finding notes in his home, objects moved around, etc. Come to find out, he had carbon monoxide poisoning. SaveSave
