What is your tween reading for fun right now?
dancingmama replied to EKT's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
She just asked me to get the follow-up of Half-magic by Edward Eager. I believe there are 7 in the series. -
This sounds hokey but I had chronic, serious dry scalp. I had allergy testing done for another reason and discovered an milk allergy. A month of no milk and I noticed my scalp wasn't dry anymore. Coincidence? I don't think so.

What back to school supplies are on your list?
dancingmama replied to lexi's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Target has a cartwheel offer for 25% school supplies and backpacks today and tomorrow only. -
My in-laws definitely had a favorite, my husband, but he never saw it. They were extremely difficult parents and had high expectations of their youngest son but we're so very proud. He just felt constant criticism. But as an outsider, I could see the pains they took for him. They would never admit it though. My parents also have favorites. My father will admit it but it's so glaringly obvious. My mother would not but we all know. Also, they have favorite grandchildren and same dynamics. My father will tell you but my mother would never although she definitely can tell you who aren't her favorites. I have a favorite son and a favorite daughter. But I only have one of each. I am also in the camp that some days/times one child is more a "favorite". I get along with them differently and they both have their own quirks. My husband prefers one over the other right now but I think that may be more testosterone then anything. The teen years are hard.

What are your favorite Costco buys?
dancingmama replied to Jean in Newcastle's topic in The Chat Board
Oh, yes, their return policy is awesome. And you don't need a receipt because they have you on file. I have returned a couple of things with no issue. Once they had changed the company of their tangerines and I stopped buying them after having to return a bag because they went bad too fast. Soon after, they had changed again and the new brand is much better. -

I just discovered their brand of Flonase. Lots more, less price. We like their Italian sausage, water, their brand detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, nuts, olive oil. Just off the top of my head. -
School supplies. I need everything as I haven't bought in a couple years. I just went to Costco and they had 8 comp books for $6.99, book bags, mechanical pencil sets, gel pen sets, binders, notebooks, and a "school starter kit" that contained pens pencils, erasers, dry erase markers, highlighters and other stuff. The Targets in my area have started to put out their supplies. I'm also looking forward to the Target toy clearance sale. They are at 30% right now and I bought my daughter a couple Monster High dolls she wanted and my niece a Lego Elves set. I wish I had reason to buy other Lego sets because I couldn't believe they were on sale. I'll buy other random toys for the gift closet when they are 70%

I'd see a developmental optometrist. Perhaps she's having issues with convergence.

I also wanted to vouch for Pinky. I do know her irl and she's an amazing and strong woman. What she is going through is definitely real and she has done everything in her power to make the most of this horrible situation. It really has been a "when it rains, it pours" thing. But through all this she has been an amazing mom and wife. She and her family will get though this but every little bit helps. Unfortunately, there are very few safety nets in the state we reside. -
I will also say to be careful with the greatschools numbers. My son's elementary school is the lowest scoring in our town however, the majority of special Ed is housed there. We went from school to school interviewing the principals and getting tours. The brand new, shiny school would have been a disaster for my son with big picture windows and the limited walls covered in stuff (posters, projects, etc). The rooms looked out to a glorious computer "pod". It was all high tech and fancy. My son walked out of there saying "no. Just. No.". We went to another school and the teachers all greeted us, the principal went out of his way to answer all our and my son's questions, the rooms were old school with normal sized windows, walls uncluttered. Very old school school. No big, fancy computer lab. But the Kids with severe needs had their own wing and were integrated throughout the day, all the specialists were housed there, and the teachers were very invested. My boy was immediately pleased and loved it there.

If someone dropped their child off and then did not return.....

Do you know where I can find slim-fit, tall men's t-shirts?
dancingmama replied to Jaz's topic in The Chat Board
JCP has a big and tall section. Try there. -
You would think that pediatric specialists would work after hours but I swear they are the worst. My son currently has 42 absences or "Tardies". We finally have one doctor who he sees at 4 and one he sees at 3:30 (he gets off school at 3:30) after being on the wait list for two years. Anything special and I usually get a 10:00 - 2:00. If you add in drive time, sometimes an hour or more, miss conceivable that a kid could have that many absences, especially if they are special needs, add in an uneducated, frazzled mom who the school doesn't like and a kid who isn't "likable" and you have a perfect storm.

Hive you did so well last time.... I need present ideas again !!!

How about a nice coffee table book about your city or state? Barnes and Noble usually carries them or a local museum/gift shop and you might be able to find one on Amazon. -

I'm pretty sure our one cat is plotting to kill my daughter. If anyone (even my daughter!) gets upset about anything, the cat automatically assumes my daughter is the cause and stalks her and swipes at her. It's kinda hilarious.
