  1. My eighth grader just finished Saxon Alg. 1 and is ready to move to Alg. 2. My freshman is about 1/2 way through Saxon Alg. 2 - I don't want to have to buy another textbook of the same kind and I can foresee problems if they had to share the same book! Not a major issue, but I am considering putting my 8th grader in allinonehighschool.com's Algebra 2 program for now. Anyone have opinions about that program? Or about where to put my 8th grader? I am not in a rush to move her to Saxon's Alg. 2, but don't want her to fall behind. She has done well in Alg. 1. Thanks! Tresta
  2. Thanks, Andrea! I just need someone to tell me it's okay, I guess ; ) We've gone as far in Latin as I can take her myself, and you're right - she's the one who needs to embrace it. She definitely has a strong vocabulary, so I guess it hasn't all been a failure.
  3. I'm trying to decide what, if any, Latin to have my eldest daughter do this year. She's a sophomore, college-bound, but will probably attend a community college first. We are not taking any AP Latin or national Latin exams. She is very bright but not that Latin-motivated. She's done Latin since 3rd grade, albeit somewhat flaky on my part. Last year we did Cambridge books 1 and 2, and I would say it was a failure, simply because I am not able to teach Latin and keep up with everything else! My dilemma: Is it that important to have her continue with Latin (my other children, included)? We can't afford a costly DVD program or online class, and we need something that can be self-taught. Should I just move her on to a foreign language of her choice and move the younger kids through the same series she did? We've mixed our Latin programs too much, I'm afraid, and I've not been consistent. We've used MP, Lively Latin, Latin Alive, and Cambridge...ugh.
  4. I'm looking at using Khan Academy as a supplement to the Wiley Self-Teaching Basic Physics and the source readings recommended in WTM. I'm interested in what others have to say, as well....
  5. This is our first year with TOG and I really appreciate it - it follows the same methods we've been using all along and I love the teacher helps. Our problem is with the accountability questions and some of the dialectic level questions (year 2, Church history book). My question is whether other users have had issues with their kids not being able to answer the questions. My kids are bright and fairly motivated to learn, so I am surprised that there is so much struggle. I am teaching four kids at three different levels, so I am short on time to go over them all with the individual kids. I look forward to our Friday discussions, but am a little discouraged with their struggles. Are we alone? Thanks, Tresta
