  1. Ebay! When I started teaching I got several lots from there. Plus add her address to your paypal account and you can ship straight to her.
  2. Another no deductible, just copays ($15 office/Rx, $50 Urgent/ER),100% coverage after that, max per year/person is I think $1500. Family max per year is $4500. We pay ~$280/month for all 6 of us. And as far as I recall from last year, our copays count towards max per person OOP.
  3. Black bean soup: can black beans, salsa, boullion cube, water, some spices. On phone so can't link, but google should find it easy enough. Serve with chips.
  4. I would google what grocery stores are nearby and see if they deliver. You might have to call their 800# and ask. You probably also need to let your cc know you'll be traveling. Mine have been very strict about purchases away from home. I went to San Diego and had to call one cc from there to unblock it. If you post the region, maybe someone from there can recommend a store that delivers. Like in SoCal, Vons and Albertsons would work.
  5. Just an idea, but I saw in several emails for a local group (you had to be approved to join, I think it was a yahoo group) that when an activity specified 12+ only or whatever ages, that she would state something along the line of "moms with younger siblings: There is no where to wait on site, but 1 street over is a shopping area with McDs or a park or _____________ if you wish to remain in the area" or "Parents and younger sibs can enjoy the park area to the north of the museum while waiting for us to finish our tour", etc. She made it very clear that littles would not be admitted. She did what looked like some cool trips, but all mine were too young at the time.
  6. I recall finding through some post here a math tutoring website for students. It was not classes, rather you could go on and it had lots of videos by topic, but it also had a live/interactive section where you could send in specific questions from your course?? It had an annual membership I believe. (I think it was like $99/year or the like, not hundreds I know that.) I thought it was something like mymathteacher.com or the like?? But google is not returning anything. I thought the guys name was mark, but I could be wrong LOL!! It wasn't like a set time for a session (like every Wed at 3pm). Ring a bell for anyone??? Thanks!
  7. So I need actual physical books, not ebooks, as I want DS13 to highlight, note etc. And he prefers actual physical books. I ordered 20,000 leagues under the sea. The font is so tiny, he would need a magnifying glass. Most copies I look at on Amazon are that way. I need the following books: Lord of the flies 20,000 leagues under the sea Oliver Twist Count of Monte Cristo I want the full versions, not abridged. Does anyone have a publisher they have found that they like??? I know they probably do this to make the book look smaller, but I rather double the pages and have text that doesn't look like it is running together.
  8. Sliced, with feta cheese (good one) and fresh mint on a good baugette. Best summer sandwich ever!
  9. Children's Place : http://www.childrensplace.com/shop/us/p/girls-clothing/girls-clothing/girls-clothing-sleepwear/Girls-Long-Sleeve-Smart-Top-And-Pants-4-Piece-PJ-Set-2085213-01 http://www.childrensplace.com/shop/ProductDisplay?urlRequestType=Base&catalogId=10551&categoryId=47537&productId=977045&errorViewName=ProductDisplayErrorView&urlLangId=-1&langId=-1&top_category=&parent_category_rn=&storeId=10151 http://www.childrensplace.com/shop/ProductDisplay?urlRequestType=Base&catalogId=10551&categoryId=47537&productId=977046&errorViewName=ProductDisplayErrorView&urlLangId=-1&langId=-1&top_category=&parent_category_rn=&storeId=10151 And now I need to do some shopping ..................
  10. Etsy has cute ones. Just search burkini on there. So does ebay. At least on those sites you could contact the seller directly and make sure they can ship on time.
  11. $1500 for a 2 bedroom in that area is a deal TBH. And many families pay 50%+ of their income in rent. Such is life in much of CA. OP, could you look if you qualify for some assistance with other things? Like utilities? Lifeline cell phones in CA? You might even qualify for some food stamps at that income level, wouldn't hurt to ask. If $200 in food stamps would give you some breathing space, use it. I totally understand not wanting to uproot everything at once. In your shoes, I would want my kids to at least have a familiar area, even if we couldn't stay in the same house.
  12. I know many families where the "babies" <4yo share one room with mom & dad, kids share one room and if too many, mattresses are laid out on the floor in the sitting room. Changing/Personal Care is done in the bathroom, usually on a schedule. In a family of 14, DH grew up unrolling his bed every night with his brothers on the living room floor with the couches pushed to the side.
  13. Thanks all. You know the saying "1 step forward, 2 back"? That was me last night after my last post. I'm out for a 4H activity right now, so that's helping.
  14. Thanks all. Really since I can't speak to anyone IRL about this, these hugs mean more than you could know. We are physically safe, nothing of that sort. Just drama and upheaval and heartache, which I loathe. Interestingly, a bright spot appeared after I posted this, although I"m still not sure there will be the consequences there should be.
  15. <<< Original Post deleted for privacy>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I just needed a safe place to virtually scream/cry if that is all I can do. :001_unsure: :crying: Thanks for "listening". UPDATE: Thanks all. I thought I would just come back and post a bit of an update. So the worst case seems to be off the table. Not sure everything will go back to they way it was. Some things seem changed too much and not for the better. Time will tell. Again, my kids and I are OK, nothing dangerous, just drama. Thanks to all who asked. Some people were hurt/disappointed. But the person whose actions started this has still not faced consequences. <That I am not pleased with. I think I may reach out to someone at a later date (after the dust settles, to prevent a big blowup) who can enact some consequences.
  16. Since you'll have freezer space and a microwave, could you make some of your favorite GF meals and freeze meal size portions for you 2. I'm thinking like rice and stirfry, portion out, freeze and then heat in microwave for dinner. Other options could be GF pasta w/sauce, shredded chicken and topping to make GF tacos with your shells. Lunch: PB and a loaf of her own GF bread (bring your own knife) or GF wraps and some fillings to make your own. Breakfast: GF cereal or oatmeal, bars, make up breakfast burritos at home in GF tortillas and freeze, just defrost in microwave.
  17. My Gma had parakeets and we had one till recently. Right now we are down to a cockateil. They love to shred paper. I wouldn't use magazines. They love tvs/radios. My gma always left one on for hers. Mirrors are great, but at least with cockatiels, they can become a bit obsessed with them, so watch out. If they stop playing with other toys, then remove it. You can google "DIY budgie toys" to see the sorts of things they like to play with and what treats are safe for it to eat.
  18. I imagine you don't hear about it because of language issues maybe? But most doctors I have meet in the several countries in the region I have traveled through speak English and you may be surprised at the # of Drs trained outside. Many of the universities there have programs for students to start there and then transfer to finish overseas. For example, once in a village in Egypt, my DS became ill (fever, cough, really bad). We immediately walked down to the local clinic (think small hospital). Excellent Dr, very through and British educated. Ended up he had walking pneumonia. We had blood tests, x rays, like 4 meds plus anitbiotic shots 2x a day (any pharmacy there could admin them, most have a nurse or dr on staff). All total I think we spent about $20. We tipped the nurse like <$1/shot when we went each time (plus buying the meds, about $1/shot) for 1 week. All total it was about <$50. That was back when the Egyptian pound was 5-6 for US$1. Now prices have gone up a bit (not THAT much), but the Egyptian pound is about 20 = US$1. Things are SOOOO cheap in Egypt right now. If you wanted to swing by there, I know a lovely resort/hotel to recommend  to recuperate in (you can get a room with a view of the pool and the pyramids).
  19. Well, I would look into Jordan. I had an excellent doctor from France in Beirut and cost is pennies on the dollar. The local university hospital might be a good place to start.
  20. Kids are in 4H and this coming year DS13 is in leadership/was elected treasurer. He needs to come up with some ideas for community service projects that he can suggest at his upcoming yearly planning meeting. They usually do 1 longer one and then some smaller one time projects. They need to be secular and something that would not require lots of travel preferred. This is an all homeschool group, so we could do some things during the day. Examples of things they did last year: Collect stuff for animal shelter, sew pillows for breast cancer patients, collected goods for food pantry, a book drive, sew lovies for NICU babies, etc. Ideas he has so far (some we need to call around and see if they are feasible): 1. Raise funds and do some sort of kiva microloan thing (maybe bake sale or the like outside local businesses). 2. Put together backpacks for foster kids?? I read once about a lot of kids arrive with nothing and it's nice for them to have something of their own. 3. I was thinking of back to school kits for low income?? Anyone know whom to contact?? What type of organization to look for? 4. Maybe something with a local senior center?? Not sure what, most of the centers around here are "commercialized" and have pros giving classes/running activities 5. something else hospital related? Make something for long term care centers?? We have 1 class a month that is arts & crafts, so they could make stuff in that. I know the kids enjoy more hands on type service projects. Like collecting stuff for the animal shelter and books, etc. Any ideas?
  21. I'm listening in. I saw this before, but no way to see what sort of books are included.
  22. I'll be the dissenting voice on the gowns for newborns. HATED them with a capital H. Summer babies get onesies, winter get footed sleepers. I also loved the long sleeve onesies with matching pants. I had to have a seat for them. I liked the boppy swing. But i'm sure there is a new even better one out there. Swaddling wraps. I'm the type who rather not do laundry daily, so week supply of nursing bras (I leak terribly, plus babies have great aim, and several of mine had reflex), nursing tops, clothes for the baby. IF I had a surprise pregnancy :leaving: , I would get an arms reach co-sleeper. I always regret not getting one. I love a good stroller. Depends on your lifestyle, but I liked the one you clip the infant car seat into. I had the double on for my twins. I bought it used on craigslist for like $25 and used it for 6 mos. Then I got an inglesina twin. (I had one of their singles with my oldest, super light, portable and comfy for baby.)
  23. Let's see.....CatWoman from this forum (she gave an awesome party by the way), Reddington from "Blacklist" TV show (he rescued me LOL), Putin (unfortunately  , I think I was watching too much news). That's all I can think of right now.
  24. I remember one summer in Europe I LIVED in palazzo pants. They were cool and breezy and cute with sandals. I wore tees with accents (scarves, vests, necklaces). Man I loved those pants. They were some sort of gauzy material. How about some of those or some skirts. (I personally think skirts are cooler than pants).
